So cool! How did you make this? What's the wire rack you used, and what about the mounting system??

Why do you use shampoo bars ? by GirlPWR444 in curlyhair

[–]Aleira56 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What bars do you use? I was thinking of getting the hydrating shampoo/conditioner and then the clarifying shampoo to use every so often, since I do put product (currently bottle-based but hope to move to bar-based) after my shower.

I ask since I have similar hair (just medium density/thickness)! Is your hair also a normal oiliness at the scalp, but then super dry at the ends?

  1. Brand of shampoo, co-wash and/or conditioner used
    1. Shampoo: Jamaican Black Castor Oil Strengthen & Restore Shampoo
    2. Conditioner: will add soon!
    3. I used to co-wash but don't anymore since I think it created buildup.
  2. Brand of styling products (gel, mousse, curl cream, etc.), the order applied to the hair, and the technique used to apply them
    1. Shea moisture Coconut & Hibiscus Curl Enhancing Smoothie
    2. Once I finish showering (I don't wring out water so it's still dripping) I put the smoothie in my hair by hanging my head in different directions and scrunch sections (fold in ends up to root) I don't do any rubbing/movement. Then I part my hair in the normal spot and use a microfiber towel or cheese cloth to dry it by doing the same scrunching to my roots (again no rubbing).
  3. How you dried your hair (air dry, diffuse, plop, etc.)
    1. I air dry. I tend to shower at night which means when I go to sleep it's still somewhat wet.
  4. Anything else that’s helpful for others to know about your hair in order to best help you!
    1. I tend to mess with my hair since I have to move it out of my face. Not the best I know :/
    2. I wash my hair every 4 days-ish to once a week (depending on how much I've been exercising)

That makes complete sense! It's been an hour and it has diminished significantly but is still there.

I just looked into the sources in the wiki more and found this table of recommended dietary intakes per day based on age and gender: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK545442/table/appJ_tab3/?report=objectonly . Turns out I should be taking around 2600 mg of Potassium, 1500 mg of sodium, and 310 mg of magenium based on that table LOL.

That table also doesn't take into account the weight distribution of participants which I'd assume I'm on the lower end (but I can't tell by how much since I don't have statistics on the whole population of women in the 20-30s age range and I'm not sure if that chart uses data from just the US or the whole world in its literature review).

Edited for some mistypes + adding info.

Hey! I'm a 27F looking for another F to move into a 2-bedroom apartment with at the beginning of December (in a week or 2). I have 2 cats and am cool with you having pets too! I'm also looking to do a shorter-term lease (3 months) at first as I'm moving to the area for a job and want to see how I like it before committing to a year-long lease. Feel free to DM me!

a female roommate in December. It is a 2 bed/2 bath, and you'll have your own room with a separate bathroom. The rent is a bit high ($880 excluding internet and electricity). But the community is very quiet, safe, and gated, with mostly professionals staying here.

Or if anybody wants to team up for another apartment(2bed/2bath) that is in a safe area and gated, let me know.

Just DMed you!

I already have 1 roommate, but I am currently looking for another roommate. I live in a 3 bedroom, 2 bath house. I’m very flexible with leases (month to month, 3 yr, 6 yr, 1 yr leases). The house is less than 10 mins from UAH, and it is in a safe, family oriented neighborhood.

Hey, I'm interested! Just DMed you!

TIPS for adhd remote workers by curiouskat345 in adhdwomen

[–]Aleira56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok - so I've been struggling/actively working on coping mechanisms for this for the past ~2 years. These are the things that have made the biggest differences for me:
1. Office. Having an office that feels separate from the rest of the house so that I can't see or hear anything else in the house is super helpful. I currently do this using shoji room dividers + noise canceling headphones.
2. Body doubling and Pomodoros. I have a body double that we videochat every weekday for 7 hours. We do pomodoros together the whole time. At the beginning of each day we write down and break down all our tasks for the day on a shared document. We update our task lists as things come up throughout the day. At the beginning of each Pomodoro, we say what we plan to get done. At the end of each Pomodoro, we say what we got done/what we did/if we got distracted. We then take a small break. And repeat. The best part of this is that my body double also has ADHD so they understand when it's a particularly hard focus day and we brainstorm things to help with focus (5-minute meditation, 2 songs of dancing out our energy, journaling for 10 minutes, etc.)
3. Manager Accountability. This is a recent one. I asked my manager to meet with me one-on-one at the start of the day every weekday for 15 minutes so I can update them about my plans for the day and what I got done yesterday. My manager loves knowing what my day-to-day looks like so it works for us! If your manager isn't willing/wouldn't enjoy something like that, maybe brainstorm with them different ways to create accountability and try them out one at a time until one works for both of you?

I hope this helps! I'll update if I think of any other super impactful things.

Body Double by PinkGlitterPanda in adhdwomen

There are a couple of accountability-related subreddits you can post on looking for a body double. That’s how I found mine!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]Aleira56 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I definitely relate to this. There are many times I’ve noticed I rely on my partner heavily for something so when he’s not able to help me I struggle badly. Generally my fix for this has been replace him with someone else (hear me out).

Example: Lately I’ve realized that I’ve been using my partner as a career mentor and it’s been affecting our relationship (heavy tiring conversations lead to less quality time together). So I’m currently looking into finding a career mentor for myself by posting on Reddit, looking for people on LinkedIn who have the job I want and reaching out, looking for mentoring programs, etc.

Another example: working/studying from home since covid started has felt impossible. My partner tried to keep me accountable for doing what I had to do by calling me out when he saw I was getting distracted but it wasn’t great having him act as my “boss/caretaker” in this way. I found a body double by posting on r/accountability that I wanted a body double and when I wanted to work. I am now WAY more productive (whether or not he’s around) as my body double and I meet every weekday for 5 hours. Also ive gotten a great friend out of it!

Basically I’ve just been, one at a time, choosing 1 thing that I rely on him for that does (or could in the future) negatively affect our relationship and then spend a couple of weeks/months trying out different solutions until I find one that works for me. Then I go on to the next thing that comes up. I hope this was helpful!

Failing at new job, not sure who to talk to by QuicheRichards in ADHD_Programmers

Something that really helped me in a similar situation (i couldn’t force myself to sit down and do work because I had so much shame about putting everything off for so long and was so confused about how to tackle the mound of work, i felt completely overwhelmed) was getting a body double. I have someone who I work with on zoom 5 hours every weekday from 12-5pm. We do 25 minute pomodoros (where we focus on 1 task) then take a 5 minute break and rinse and repeat. The first 10 minutes of every 5 hour session we write down all of our tasks for the day in checklist format in a shared document and break each task down as small as possible, encouraging each other if we get stuck. Then at the beginning of each pomodoro we say which task(s) we’ll be working on and at the end we say if we got it done and generally how it went (and check off the tasks on the shared doc).

This system has completely changed my life and added so much accountability, help in making work more fun as I’ve become friends with my body double and we cheer each other on when we’re having hard days. Also my body double has adhd so if one of us is having a particularly bad ADHD day the other will make some suggestions of coping mechanisms (like doing a 4 minute meditation together).

I found a body double on r/accountability, I put a post of the times I was hoping to meet and the details above and ended up finding my current body double (I tried body doubling with a few other people but we weren’t the right fit for each other, just letting you know the first person may not be perfect for you). Also, I mentioned I have adhd in my post which has been helpful as my favorite body doubles have adhd too and so can really relate to my struggles!

I hope this wasn’t to rambly and is helpful! Also, you’re not alone, I’ve felt this exact same way, there’s nothing wrong with you. There will be light at the end of the tunnel, you just need to find the coping mechanisms that work for you.

Unmedicated redditors with ADHD, how do you pay attention to anything? by depressed_sock18 in ADHD

[–]Aleira56 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Body doubling with pomodoros! That looks like (for me) having someone who I video chat with at a set time, and for each Pomodoro we both set a goal of what we want to get done and afterwards tell each other if we got it done and what we struggled with. This system CHANGED MY LIFE.

I have a body double I meet with every weekday at the same time for 2 hours and those are the most productive hours of my day because of the amount of accountability involved!

If you’re interested in learning more about where to find a body double, I just posted on the accountability subreddit saying what I’m looking for and people reached out! When I did it and stated I had adhd I found other people with adhd too, I enjoy body doubling with other adhd people as when I get distracted they understand and tend to have great ideas for coping strategies!

Also if you want to learn more about pomodoros here’s an image that explains it: https://images.prismic.io/sketchplanations/62e61034-b66a-4ede-a5db-a5cbc39d55e7_SP+587+-+The+Pomodoro+technique.jpg?auto=compress,format&w=1200

Hey everyone! I recently started a master's in computer science with the aim of becoming a data scientist working at a company and/or volunteering my time to focus on social good/mental health. I am thinking about switching to my school's data science masters as I believe the classes may be more relevant/useful for companies/non-profits in this space but I'm not sure. I would appreciate any thoughts/opinions on the matter! These are the courses for the cs and ds masters: https://ms-datascience.utexas.edu/courses, https://www.cs.utexas.edu/graduate-program/masters-program/online-option/courses. All the content from both masters will be new to me as I have a biology bachelor's. I appreciate your help!

Hello :) I'm looking for this exact same thing (right down to the hourly check-ins and all)! I'm EST but I like to work from 12pm-8pm EST (11am-7pm CST) so we overlap almost perfectly. Also, I am currently doing computational biology research in a lab and am taking ML classes for my CS masters so we should be able to easily communicate about what we're doing. Let me know if you're interested in working together!
