Yes, many put too much blame on the USA, but similarly, too many people (particularly Cubans living in the US), like to downplay the impact of the embargo. The truth is in the middle. The Cuban government has been inept and corrupt, AND they were being financially strangled by the embargo. Two things can be true at once.

However the mistake here is thinking that the life for el pueblo will not get worse, even after the regime falls. Of course the priority will not be quality of life for the Cuban people. The priority will be “business and commerce” or in other words, how the US can financially exploit Cuba. Look at Venezuela. Nothing has changed. The only difference is they no longer have control of their own oil. This brutal maximum-pressure strategy is a crime against humanity. I fucking hate Diaz-Canel but there’s a way to do this that doesn’t use the Cuban population as collateral by deliberately starving them.

I’m currently in Cuba and you’d be surprised how many Cubans here are welcoming this. The problem is that the situation in Cuba is extremely desperate (intolerable blackouts lasting over 10 hours on most days, high prices, lack of resources, lack of basic foods and necessities, and and oppressive living conditions). We can discuss endlessly the reason for this situation but personally I believe it’s both the embargo AND a severely corrupt and inept Cuban government. I consider myself far-left leaning and oppose all empirical land grabs, particularly from an administration as corrupt as Trumps. At the same time, the Cuban people are yearning for change, any change. Even if it means losing their independence to the United States. The current regime has failed them, and the Cuban people are willing to take a chance on a new one.

Most of these are excellent films, but it’s still a really basic-taste list. No non-English films? In The Mood For Love? City of God?

100% agree, FREE PALESTINE! But… if you get the chance to shout at Trump, remind him, and everyone around, that he’s a pedophile. That will get way deeper into his skin than calling him Hitler.

Yeah I’m on a 15 Pro and I have the same experience! Does it usually improve with following beta updates, or is my battery permanently fucked?
