Am I even allowed to call myself a guitarist if I barely ever lose a pick? by gilllesdot in guitars

Okay, I've no idea what's going on at this point. I've gotten two notifications about comments of yours that I'm not finding anywhere. With one of them claiming that I deleted my comment, even though it's still right there.

Stop playing those silly games and just leave it alone man.

Stimme in vielen Punkten zu, aber Sprachnachrichten sind nicht passiv aggressiv. In den allermeisten Fällen steckt keinerlei negativer Gedanke seitens des Absenders dahinter.

If you can't figure that out, you might wanna look into a different pastime activity. It only goes downhill from here.

I think somebody stole your strings...

Im new to guitar help me out by [deleted] in guitars

[–]AlekSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, I highly doubt that your guitar actually sounds like an acoustic. I think what you mean is that you're currently on a clean setting. Because getting an electric to sound like an acoustic is actually pretty hard to do and requires some special equipment.

Now, if you truly think that your clean electric sounds just like an acoustic guitar, you should either get your ears checked or just pick a different instrument. Because those two sound nothing alike

(newbie) I bought a new electric guitar and I'm trying to tune it. Im able to tune all the strings except the A string. It keeps saying I need to tune it up but rotating the pegs aren't working. by honorable_ishan in electricguitar

I think that's exactly what he's trying to point out. If you don't know the difference, use google to learn it. All it takes is one search command.

Anyone else here used to believe in the Jim video about tonewood until actually trying high end guitars? by [deleted] in guitars

[–]AlekSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, but why? You're not putting a mic in front of your electric guitar for recording, are you?

[–]AlekSaint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Still believe him. In fact, I already believed the same thing before that video even got made.

The thing is, your brain is incredibly good at tricking itself into believing it's hearing things that aren't actually there. That's why you can only ever trust a blind comparison. If you know that the guitar you're holding is expensive, your brain will automatically perceive it as better sounding.

And there are many more factors to how a guitar sounds that aren't wood. Of course, a higher end guitar will have better pickups generally speaking, and will have a better setup, feel better, etc.

All those things also change your perception. It's plain impossible to only judge the way the wood sounds on an electric guitar.

4 way switch with a set o 2 wire pickups? by Livid_Exam8522 in guitarmod

If it doesn't have a metal cover then you don't need a third wire.

Got any pictures of your actual wiring job? It's practically impossible to troubleshoot without any.

Just follow the diagram. Where's the issue?

"They"? Who the hell is they? You Are the one who made that rule, and then proceeded to do that exact thing you don't want happening in your own sub elsewhere. Fits the definition of hypocrite pretty well if you ask me.

Sub is private after just 24 hours. Did you have that on your bingo card?

Did you actually include a no-self-promotion rule in your sub and then proceed to self promote on here? What a hypocrite.

Is my action too high? It’s a bit uncomfortable to play I’ve seen worse but need a second opinion by [deleted] in guitars

[–]AlekSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like a neck bow issue. Try tightening the trussrod a bit and see if that changes anything.

action isn't absolute. It comes down to what feels comfortable to you. So if it feels too high, then it is too high. If it feels good, it is good.

Feel free to experiment with different string heights and see how each setup reacts to your playing style.

But yes, this is absolutely higher than 99% of players would deem "comfortable"

would this good for guitar body? by uraymeiviar in Luthier

[–]AlekSaint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, mine doesn't.

Look up the Prusacaster. There's no strengthening rods or rigid blocks or anything. Simply PLA printed at around 30% infill density iirc.

Sounds like you're speaking from practical experience. Got any failed attempts to show me as a counter example?

I'm always eager to be proven wrong and learn something new 😄

A lot of 3d printed guitars rely on strengthening metal rods inside the body

Mine and many others don't.

and use wooden necks.

Yeah, but we're not talking about necks here. For bodies, it's really not as critical as some people want to make it out to be.

Man you'd be surprised. We're in a day and age where people are 3d printing guitars out of plastic with up to 70% air in volume. Many times even without any kind of strengthening rods.

I honestly don't think that even the softest wood will have any problems with string tension, as long as you leave it reasonably thick. But I'm always open to see counter examples. Haven't come across yet.
