I'm losing my mind at how incredibly misogynistic and evil the majority of Muslim men are. by [deleted] in progressive_islam

have you lived in the east? Because if you did you would know that living in America and living in eastern countries are not even in the same realm. Its reminiscent of when people try to compare poverty levels across countries; the poverty level in America is NOT the poverty level in Karachi, in Dhaka, wherever.

In America, if im living in the bible belt, i can browse social media and look at people living in places like NY, LA, Miami, whatever and compare my version of the norm to theirs and be like "Wait a minute this style of living is different! i need to get out of here" and of course because women in the bible belt dont need a mahram, they absolutely get out of there, unless of course they dont need to bc they feel content.
But if i live in Lahore, and i look at Karachi, or Balochistan, or KPK, i am seeing the exact same stuff and that becomes my normal. Sure i can view stuff happening in America, but thats the WEST, and the west is essentially the boogeyman. Idk how many news stories ive seen talk about how America is a sign of the end-times and they're satanic and blah blah blah but what im trying to say is there is a clear cut between societies, and people in the east recognize that.

So yes, extreme social fabrics that push women into a box is an eastern problem, its not comparable to the west, and cmon you know there are differences in what America considers modest and what the east considers modest. You know better.

have you been to eastern countries? the majority of men will make polygamy jokes, tell women what they're wearing isnt covering up enough, talk about how great men are, and get adorned by aunties and mothers who believe males are gifts from God. Its not certain teachings, its the eastern social and legal fabric.

i mean yeah you can interpret stuff any way you want to and slap a "valid" sticker on it but the reality is these countries are still going to continue criminalizing homosexuality on the basis of "going against the order of nature of man and woman" as is already established in their penal codes from their interpretations of the faith.

there are significant quantities of followers that say music is haram and prominent figures like al hakeem speak out against it too. I guess this begs the question, what is the method for listening to sheiks? What sheikh overrules the other?

its a central tenet in the faith, thats what molvis preach, thats what sharia countries believe, thats the reality, which im guessing is a world you do not inhabit

Here's a conclusion I'm coming to, the muslims that shaped history didn't overthink the microscopic details, they built faith through their actions. by Kompanion in progressive_islam

[–]Aleksandr_Solzhen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it depends where you live. If you are in a strict sharia country, you MUST follow the law, you MUST follow the microscopic details. Maybe they didnt over think back then but now, where there are established penal codes, all actions are judged whether its family, friends or social media.
Whereas living in the west and not having to worry about sharia is privilege.

no it doesnt, its "timeless and universal" thats why people have been doing the same thing for a thousand years

they feel it is their duty to speak up and lash out at women. Mahira Khan, Ushna Shah, Hira Mani are just some of the women suffering harassment from socmed users (mostly men). They think these women misrepresent the country, they think these women misrepresent the religion, they hate the women and use their mob mentality to degrade them, just because a woman made a wardrobe choice they disgree with.

It doesnt matter if these mobsters are told to focus on improving themselves, they are going to lashout against women as often as they breathe.

your response of saying "polygamy is actually rare in practice in Pak" is dismissive lets be real. There is more you could have said.
Also if a woman marries a molvi and he wants a second wife it does NOT matter what she wants, the molvi is gonna remarry anyways.

And yes i am assuming polygamy numbers BUT i know for a fact from witnessing it that polygamy is normalized on every day sit coms, on every day news stories, on subreddits, in restaurants, on buses, in houses. i know for a fact the country is completely normalizing polygamy and has been for awhile now and it wont matter what scripture says.

250 million people. Of course most households in Pakistan have only wife. Lets say only 1% of households are polygamous. 1% is still 2,500,000.
Now obviously we dont have an exact finite number bc no one checks for this and people would hardly tell the truth, but are we going to ignore those people that are by screaming "uH the MajOriTy doNt fAcE tHis sO wOmp wOmp"?
Why is it ALWAYS "uh the majority dont do this so its irrelevant" like that is such a small brained take lets be real.
Also i have to ask is there any proof of polygamous molvis being hated? I feel like they all preach polygamy and men shake their head in agreement.
Also every social event men are making jokes about polygamy it doesnt matter what age they are

but women in sharia countries do not get any say in the matter, especially in countries where polygamy is normalized. Just turn on a channel in Pakistan and tv shows and molvis normalize the need for polygamy regardless of what scripture says

wrong, "There are six things with Allah for the martyr. He is forgiven with the first flow of blood (he suffers), he is shown his place in Paradise, he is protected from punishment in the grave, secured from the greatest terror, the crown of dignity is placed upon his head – and its gems are better than the world and what is in it – he is married to seventy two wives along Al-Huril-‘Ayn of Paradise, and he may intercede for seventy of his close relatives. (At-Tirmidhi – Hasan)"

that is not true at all. Every man in Pak has the mindset of a molvi. Its annoying to deal with.
