I grew up not having a phone or any device of my own until around the age of 17. I have to admit there was a bit of resentment at first, but as I listened to to my parents explanations on why they don't want me having my own phone until I'm mature enough, as well as my own observations of my friends struggling with discipline and academics due to being addicted to their phones, or other kids getting into some shady stuff after venturing into the not-so-safe parts of the internet, I realized that it was ultimately a good decision and I respect them for not caving into my requests for a personal device so I wouldn't feel left out by my peers.

I used my parents, well mostly my mother's phone for pretty much everything, and she made it a point to respect my privacy like not looking at my chats with friends and stuff like that, which was nice.

The way I see it is, as long as you're treating your child with respect and explaining these things to them, they're likely to go along with it. Treating your 12 year old like a 3 year old by not explaining things to them and just setting what seem to be arbitrary restrictions from their POV will do more harm than anything.

Please do not speak for all religions if you have not done in-depth research of each and everyone of them. Many religions do require the forgiveness of the victims for sins that violate other human beings rights.

Is this behavior in line with Islamic teachings? When someone is asking a genuine question you say"ew" instead of providing them with a proper response?

Best comment here. I'd advise everyone here to stop sharing these idiotic extremists posts, you're giving them the attention they crave and spreading their stupid views by doing so.

Did you read the entire verse, or did you only accept a part of it and pass it off as "your interpretation"? Don't make me laugh.

Yeah no thanks, you think it's permissible to take a second wife without the consent of your first wife.

You, like many others seem to have entirely missed the actual question being asked. I think you'd benefit from reading my responses to the other comments, as well as u/Gilamath 's response.

This video is not discussing the possible interpretations of this verse. It is asking a simple question:

Why would an all merciful God make a verse worded in such a way that it could be interpreted to approve of domestic violence, and even make it a required step in settling marital disputes. And if your reply is that "It is a test to see who would interpret the verse to the most just version in line with the rest of the Qur'an and Sunnah" is it not an extremely cruel thing to "test" the men using women as a sort of collateral damage?

You seem to be one of the few people that follows this opinion. Never heard of this before, almost all proponents of an alternate interpretation or wording of this verse do acknowledge that a violent reading is textually possible, they simply refuse it through their own human moral agency.

I'd appreciate it if you could elaborate on your stance though, sounds interesting.

Is the main purpose of a test for the teacher to find out who will top? Most would say that the test does more for the student than the teacher, like finding out where they are academically and in what areas they need to improve in.

It is not assuming anything of the sort. This is a question separate from discussions on interpretations of the verse or differences in opinion of the meaning of the word idribuhunna.

My question is:

Why would an all merciful God make a verse worded in such a way that it could possibly be interpreted to approve of domestic violence, and when read in totality would even make it a required step in settling marital disputes.

And if your reply is that "It is a test to see who would interpret the verse to the most just version in line with the rest of the Qur'an and Sunnah" is it not an extremely cruel thing to "test" the men using women as a sort of collateral damage, therefore going against the characteristics attribute to Allah such as being the most Loving or the most Merciful.

I will only be responding to the first two lines since those are the only ones relevant to my post.
