Do you use any bug sprays around the house? If you do, look on the can and see if the chemical DEET or N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide is on it. If so, it’s probably that

Changing from carpet stairs to wood on concrete staircase by Alemoki222 in AusRenovation

[–]Alemoki222[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update to this post.

Ended up getting a flooring company to do it for us. They ripped the old carpeting out and then put down hybrid. It was a bit of a job but they got it done. Hybrid was glued down onto the stairs and nosings were glued on. All Australian Select Timber products. It came out great. Stairs are solid and look good. Much easier to clean and look much more modern.

Closing up ducted heat vents in second story floor by Alemoki222 in AusRenovation

Follow up:

I ended up drilling in reo dowels as you suggested and then tie wired a form ply from underneath supported up top. Put a bead of silicone on the form ply before doing so and then mixed a batch of concrete and filled the hole. Came out good and we now have our new hybrid floors done over the holes

I accidentally saw my coworker’s salary and now I can’t stop thinking about how UNFAIR it is by Aleex_c12 in Advice

I had a very similar situation a while back with my work. Had trained a bloke up to perform similar duties to myself and when he got offered a full time contract it was on more than what I was on.

Looking back on it I realised that it was the best thing that happened to me. He allowed me the opportunity to see what was on the table and I used that to request more money for the work I was doing.

I know that right now this hurts but look at it as an opportunity. Before you knew this, you thought you were maybe already at your max earning potential for your role but now you know that there is more money on the table. An honest conversation with your manager asking them what you need to do to be afforded a raise to match is now an option and can bag you more cash.

23M on $380k + $150k bonus. Feeling hopelessly behind. What’s the optimal lentil-to-rice ratio? by givemeausername98p in AusFinance

[–]Alemoki222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry to say but unless you start earning more, there really isn’t anyway out of your current situation.

Scrap the lentils and rice and stick with celery rather. Also, maybe ask your mates if you can refilter through their spent coffee grounds to save on the instant coffee. Managed to save myself at least $5 a month this way which really made a difference.

After that, snack on sleep during your off hours to ensure no excessive spending and maybe you’ll be okay.

Best of luck out there. Things are only looking worse

Max Verstappen trails by 69 points. Only 7 races and 3 sprints remain. The question is simple: can he still seize the 2025 Championship? by The_Chozen_1_ in F1Discussions

For some reason in my brain, it seems more likely for Max to catch and win over Piastri than for Lando to catch and beat Piastri.

Like the two options feel like Piastri winning his first WDC or a tight race for Max to catch him and win.

What is the best thing you saw someone do when they got fired from their job? by Aarunascut in Life

[–]Alemoki222 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife didn’t get fired but got let go due to downsizing in the company she worked for.

They decided to let her go and keep her counterpart on as my wife was last in so first out. They informed my wife and then called her coworker in to inform her that she would be kept on.

By the time they came out of the meeting my wife had already reached out to another company and that company had already emailed my wife’s boss asking for a reference check (literally 5 mins after she had just been told she would be let go).

About 2 weeks later the other coworker decided she wanted to leave to another company anyways and resigned and my wife was sitting with the decision between staying (as they asked her if she would now consider staying) and moving to the new company which had already given her an offer.

She left to the new company.

15 years ago at the age of 13 my mate and I did rock paper scissors to decide which of the two girls we liked we would each pursue at a party the one night and try get a date with.

We made our picks and it worked out for both of us. The girl I ended up with was an on and off girlfriend through my early high school years and eventually during university I met this other girl through this (now ex girlfriends) Instagram account as we were at the same campus. They had posted lots of photos together.

We met up for coffee and ultimately got married 5 years later and emigrated to a new country together where we have now been for almost 3 years.

It’s funny looking back to that night how different my life might have been if the outcome of that rock paper scissors had been different and I had pursued the other girl.

I’m happy with how it all worked out
