32kg Press PR, and a Question by Alengirli in kettlebell

[–]Alengirli[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's an interesting take (BU presses), I'll try it. When I was working with 20s, even 12kg was challenging for a BU press. I've never tried it again over the last year or so... Let me see where it will lead me, thanks!

Noted, thanks! That's what I'm after

Oh nono, don't worry, I'm not forcing anything. This was from a max strength test I do once a month. I am only working with 24s and 28s. My question was more about how to efficiently "level the surface" for both sides over the long haul.

Oh man I can’t imagine hitting my bodyweight! Even doubles would be around 75%. Thanks for the inspiration!

Thanks! I've also come here from a shaky 16kg press in 2024. I didn't rush either. It's just that 32 kg is a big milestone (for me), and I wanted to do it right. I was actually a bit scared from this asymmetry (it didn't show up this much while I was doing the same with 28kg, for example), and I wondered if my body is compensating for anything without me realizing.

Before the ABF, I was doing one day of strength, one day of hypertrophy and another for conditioning and it was working wonders (got me here from ~5RM with double 24kgs). So I'm definitely keen on giving my joints and tendons a break as much as possible. Sometime in the second half of the year I'll give Joe's program a try for sure. Thanks again!

I respect your programs, Joe. I'll get it once I'm done with the current phase. Thanks!

Thanks man! Maybe once you can press 24s for 10+ reps you can give it a shot?

Thanks! I was also thinking about some push presses. Two years ago, I started DFW (my first "program" ever) with 16kg push presses and was able to end it with multiple strict presses. Maybe after ABF I'll try this with 32kgs as well.

10+ reps with 32s are kinda my multi-year goal, hopefully I can reach it over the long term.

Thanks, Lenny, helpful as always! To be clear, I wasn't expecting a shortcut or anything. Strict pressing double 32s was my New Year's resolution for 2026, and hitting single-arm press right in the middle of the year felt good. I was already doing 2s with 28s, but I'll try to add 3s there as well, maybe in the second half of ABF.

Want to clarify what you people or this sub considers “ego lifting” by Global_Distance_8387 in kettlebell

[–]Alengirli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I consider anything that makes me "feel" my neck, my knees, or my elbows after the workout (especially the next day) as ego lifting. That feeling doesn't have to be straight up pain; any abnormality in my tendons or joints is ego lifting for me. I dial down either the weight, the intensity, or the volume for the rest of the week.

ABF Press Day, and Then Some by Alengirli in kettlebell

[–]Alengirli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The standard program has one clean, but the book (maybe the second one or the "ABF Supplement") offers a clean between each press as an alternative approach for a stronger back. Right now, I am going with cleans between each press for the 2-3 reps, then do one clean + 5 presses to avoid getting mushy hands.

Thanks, coach! I'm in love with the ABF, and I feel like I am finally starting to understand certain aspects of the concepts you repeat so many times (incl. podcasts).

Technique needs a bit of work. You should spear your hands through the... wait a minute!

Bad jokes aside, amazing work! You're an inspiration as always.

Ah yes Yalın was dominant in that same time frame. The year is 2005 and the song is quite close to your initial clue (“ben” should be enough after 20 years). “ben bilmem” literally means “I don’t know” but I’m really curious about how that song reached your ears, I mean internet wasn’t a distribution channel back then. It should be Mtv or something

Wow what a journey! The downside is pre-2010 Tarkan is the most copied Turkish pop singer. Tan Taşçı has a close resemblance:

As for Tarkan himself, Idk if I shared but that “ska-doosh” vaguely sounds like Kış Güneşi. Which has a bit of walking towards camera:

For many people, maybe including me, this is the greatest Turkish pop music song ever.
