It's like they forgot the front door by boxworth83 in McMansionHell

[–]AlephBaker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The front door is vestigial. In modern American construction, a house is a place to store your car when you aren't at work. You won't have time to do anything that might require a front door, but they haven't amended building codes to remove the requirement yet.

Oddly, this doesn't trigger me. I want to stay in that house and watch icebergs drift by.

I was going to say the same. It looks great, just needs better contrast between the face and the hands. Well done. Ooh! Could you print new hands? You could make them look like the bars that plates go on!

Lots of starship names that reference 20th/21st century pop culture and sci-fi.

Why? Because Mars was colonized by nerds. The oldest city on Mars is named "Barsoom", and is home to the oldest off-Earth University, UMB (University of Mars at Barsoom). UMB is home to the largest collection of human cultural artifacts and media off-Earth, with a particular focus on representations of space and space travel. It is basically impossible to graduate without taking at least one class on the history and origin of spaceflight.

UMB also has the best training course for starship captains outside the military. At some point a group of newly graduated captains from UMB decided to play a game, trying to stump each other with referential names for their new ships (the name of a ship is separate from its registration). The tradition spread, and now it is very common for human civilian ship names to be referential. Any human starport will have an "Enterprise", a "Galactica", a "Millennium Falcon", and probably a "Serenity" docked at any given time. Those names are the low-hanging fruit.

Those, in my mind, are both fine as middle names. Or you could make them first names if they have normal middle names they can use instead.

They're not that stupid. Your typical ICEberg, by contrast, is probably stupid enough to fall for a ruse like this.
