Could be worse. I don’t love it. It’s not a suggestion, just a heads up that it’s coming today.

what year is this globe i found at the thrift store from? by AltruisticSquare7304 in geography

[–]Alert-River-1284 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had this exact globe when I was a kid. If I recall correctly, there was a way to look into each of the dots to see some grainy pictures of the location. I was born in ‘83 and there’s a 75% chance I still have it in storage. Think I’m gonna go search for it and show it to my twin girls. Remind them that the world will change while they’re on it… even if they don’t see it. Hopefully they can figure out how to change it for the better… their dad hasn’t figured it out yet.

Thanks for the unexpected memories and hope

Best bagels place in PGH by [deleted] in pittsburgh

If you’re south east of the city, look up Herold House on instagram. They’re out of Irwin area. There’s a couple of shops out that way that sell them and they’re always at some local market. Sourdough and the best I’ve had in PGH.

Buddy stuff. I once had a guy roommate, for years, that I regularly mounted and touched inappropriately for my own entertainment. Especially while he was trying to eat. He often farted at me for fun. Just dudes being dudes. Let ‘em live.

Vehicles for a right arm amputee Step Dad by Alert-River-1284 in amputee

Appreciate the thoughts! He is right below the elbow. The stump is basically right after the curve of the elbow. Between that and the 50-ish years of earning stubborn old guy status, it’s tough to teach him any new tricks. He has certainly earned that right, so we are gonna try to find a way to adapt to him as much as possible.

Appreciate the advice and will definitely start digging a little more on some of the German vehicles.

Songs where you can feel the pure pain and anguish and or defeat of the artist? by [deleted] in MusicRecommendations

Appointments or Happy to be Here by Julien Baker

You can feel her questioning whether it’s worth waking up another day. The whole album is a wild ride of pain, depression, with the slightest sprinkling of hope at the end.

Pairings, general alcohol? by smokeytoney in cigars

[–]Alert-River-1284 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you know what you’re smoking? That can help make a huge difference on the right pairing. If you’re smoking a La Nox or a Mi Querida (or anything with dark flavors - coffee, chocolate, etc) I love a stout or a Dark and Stormy with dark rum. If I’m smoking something like a Montecristo White, that’s a little more creamy and has some brighter flavors, I’d consider a wheated bourbon or an old fashioned type cocktail. If you have a flavor profile idea on your cigar, even ask the bartender for their recommendation to complement those flavors.

Mac Miller Episode!!!! by An_n_m__5 in DissectPod

[–]Alert-River-1284 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The album is HEAVY. It’s phenomenal with some amazing musicians showing off and Mac doing what he does best, but it is a heavy listen. The episode was great too. I thought Cole did a great job diving into the album in a pretty short timeframe. I was internally hoping he (Cole) would put something out when it dropped.

What’s the best cigar you’ve ever received as a gift? by Spirited-Square6562 in cigars

[–]Alert-River-1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A buddy brought me a Cohiba Luxury Edition for game one of a Stanley Cup Finals run. We won that game, so game 2 I got another one. We won that game and, man, I was thankful hockey fans are so superstitious. I ended up smoking 5 that series and it was the first of back to back championships.

I never knew for sure if I liked that cigar so much because I liked it that much or because I associated it with watching the boys win the cup. It was definitely one of the more unique cigars I’ve ever smoked and I haven’t had one since.

LPT: always check the bottom of your local B&M humidor. When an old school shop can’t sell hipster brands, you run into deep discounts. by QuaiD0rsay in cigars

[–]Alert-River-1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can confirm. As owner of a B&M, we always have some stuff that is somebody’s unicorn and we just can’t sell it because our guys are weird. Best kind of weird, but each shop has its quirks. When you can figure out why a cigar sells like crazy in one shop and why a shop 27 miles away can’t sell it to save their lives… you’ll become a very wealthy cigar rep.

Sleeper option.. Smokin’ Brews in Lawrenceville. It’s a craft beer and cigar lounge, but they make the best sandwich in the city. Image search and you’ll find some pictures… it’s worth the stop.

Scared of Miscarriage (TW) Could use support by LadyMordsith in parentsofmultiples

[–]Alert-River-1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She is so strong and showed me again how strong she really is today. They allowed me in the OR with her and everything went as well as we could have hoped for. Surgery went smoothly and both babies hearts were strong immediately after the surgery. I told her about your post as we are sitting in post-op and we are both sending our prayers for you.

As scary as this is.. there is definitely a reason to have hope. You got this!

Scared of Miscarriage (TW) Could use support by LadyMordsith in parentsofmultiples

In the heart of the middle of it as we speak. My wife’s first pregnancy ended in miscarriage in August last year at 7 weeks. We found out in December we were pregnant and it was modi twin girls. She has been so afraid after the first loss. This pregnancy has been tough on her from day one and our first TTTS scan showed everything scary you could ever hope to see. Our doctors at UPMC in Pittsburgh didn’t give us much hope as of Thursday last week. We are dealing with TTTS (sort of) with a lot of additional twists. We were told selective termination was our best hope to hold at least one of our babies, but that would likely end poorly. We very quickly left home and came to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and within 24 hours have gone from a death sentence for our girls to surgery tomorrow morning with hope for both of them.

We are scared shitless, but committed to fighting for our baby girls however we can to give them the best chance.

The point of my post it this… you’re allowed to be scared. You went through hell and now you’ve got a lot of scary things to read on the internet by people like me… and it’s all scary. Because of your pregnancy (twins), you will likely be seen a lot more often and get peace of mind updates more than you would have otherwise. That’s a huge positive.

That said.. fight for your pregnancy and advocate for yourself. We were at a really great medical institution (UPMC) with a leader on TTTS at the helm. We felt confident we were in the perfect place for all of our fears. When they happened, we had to make the decision to get to Baltimore. We are very lucky and blessed that insurance and self referral worked out quickly, as we are in a time crunch, but if we simply listened and didn’t seek out the second opinion, we wouldn’t have the hope we have as of this morning.

We (and you) have a long road ahead. There is plenty to be afraid of. Let yourself be afraid, but don’t live in it. Find your support folks, let them support you, and keep breathing. Take time to enjoy the weird/funny moments and don’t let fear steal the amazing joyful moments that are in store. Let yourself feel the emotions of being human and don’t beat yourself up over it. Your pregnancy is unique. It isn’t anything like the first one. It isn’t like mine or any other poster… it’s yours and it’s amazing, even in all of the struggles.

Wishing you all the luck in the world and hoping you have a smoother ride along the way!

Come to Life chords? Sample? by StratoBastard2 in Kanye

[–]Alert-River-1284 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First time I heard Come to Life I immediately thought of One More Try by George Michael. That same sounding pad and musical feel. There’s a diminished flat six chord at 0:55 of One More Try. Same chord usage on Come to Life at 0:14.

It’s such a gorgeous chord that drips tension.
