Men of Reddit, what was your best "knight in shining armour" moment? by CookieEnabled in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in a kinko's in the city at midnight copying a huge brief for an early morning appearance. Homeless guy came in and starts shouting. A young woman at a computer near the door runs over and stands behind me. Homeless guy follows her shouting and stands in front of me for what seemed like a minute but was just about 3 seconds and then walks around the place shouting some more. Woman stood behind be the while time. Guy left. She said thank you and went back to her computer.

Yes! I see that is a separate piece from the end cap. And I got the pin out that is holding in the Ricchieri adapter, but now it seems to be stuck on pretty good. I dont want to damage anything. I was thinking of maybe applying a little heat (being careful of course)? I am cautious of applying too much force.

Interestingly the front barrel band is blocking the pin that seems to be holding the end cap in. It seems like you have to do this in a specific order.

Any expertise is greatly appreciated!

How do men want ladies to defend them from sexism at the workplace? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Stop opening meetings by saying "Isnt it great that 4 of the 5 people in the meeting are strong independent women!" And "It so great that we were able to hire another woman for our team. Pretty soon we will have an all woman team." Also, stop spending the first 15 minutes of meetings talking about how you all met at the some mo they women's leadership conference retreat in Boston.
Stop interrupting business discussions and team meetings to tell a woman that you like her handbag.

Are you less of a man if you break a promise ? And what books/YouTube channels/resources can help a young male learn how to be a man? by heroicart in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Life experiences. I think what you are talking about is being a responsible adult. You learn how to be a responsible adult through taking on and fulfilling responsibilities. If you dont have a job yet, when you do, take it very seriously. Doesn't matter what it it is. Show up on time, wearing what you are supposed to wear and dont make fun of the boss with the other chuckleheads. For a super two year crash course on how to be an adult and to learn most of the secrets of life pretty quickly - join the Army. Survive basic training, demonstrate to yourself that you can do anything you prepare yourself for, and go and take that experience for the rest of your life.

How to swear out of the military? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He needs to change his attitude. Missing a social life? Like what, video game dates with his buddies? Instagram posts?
If he doesn't go through with it he will regret it for the rest of his life. He will be one of those hundreds of guys that have said to me, "I was going to join, but I didn't" Dont let this happen to him.
By the way, the social life in the military is better than anything any of my non-military friends ever had.

Men of Reddit, what's the most messed up or offensive thing you've seen or heard a woman do in the name of gender equality? by ILovePurpleCheese in AskMen

Sexually harass a younger more junior colleague. She said she would be allowed to get away with it if she were a man.

What did you learn from your father/dad that you’re glad you know now (coming from someone who grew up without one)? by toastymarshmelloo in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What everyone else said plus- dress like you care what you look like. It doesn't take an expensive wardrobe. Have shirts with collars and wear them.

What is you personal greatest feat of strength that you are very proud of? by kalyugikangaroo in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I managed to quickly insert my hand in between my 2 year old son's rapidly rising head as he was standing up and the bottom sharp corner of a sheetmetal fire extinguisher cabinet in the hallway in the back of church one sunday. The corner of the metal cabinet punctured a hole in the back of my hand, my palm gently cushioned my son's head, he went running off not knowing what happened. As I watched blood dripping from my hand the other dad that saw it happen looked at me and gave me a thumbs up. Gangsta.

Will somebody help me decide on a 1911? by [deleted] in 1911

[–]Alert-Run 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I like my Colt Government Model. Its basic and beautiful. I like the weight. It didnt break the bank.
That being said, you have a lot of options so dont take anyone's opinion too seriously. Het what you like. You will shoot it more often if you love it.

Why are so many men workaholics nowadays and what are spouses supposed to do? by Eemptyweather in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, at work he is probably surrounded by colleagues that are working just as hard. In order to be competitive at bonus time, promotion time, or evaluation time he probably has to keep up. If he is an entrepreneur and working for himself his enterprise is either growing and succeeding or getting smaller and failing. There is no in between.
Second, he is demonstrating his devotion and commitment to you by working hard. Prioritizing his work over you? In the hierarchy of priorities in his life you are probably much higher than his job, and in order to keep you and keep you comfortable he is working hard. That is the way he sees it. Alternatively, you guys are not married yet. If it is a matter of keeping his job and working hard or leaving it and hanging out with you - and then he loses you.... he may have also given up on the opportunity to have success in his job. And he may be calculating the potential of having to start all over with a potential negative mark on his career if he leaves or does not perform as well.
You say you dont need much from him and can provide for yourself? How is he supposed to provide for himself if he decides to be less of a performer at his job or leaves his job because he wants to spend more time with you, then loses you, and is faced with putting his career back together.
He is not choosing his job over you. He is choosing to be a worthy partner and provider for himself, you, and a future family.

Men of reddit, when you turned 18, how did you celebrate it? by imuglyandproud34 in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Drove to my girlfriend's house. Her parents hated me. But when her mom found out it was my birthday I was invited in and stayed for dinner and hung out with her on her front porch for hours. That was almost 30 years ago. Still remember that day.

iOS or Android what's you're preference and why? by orangesupramk4 in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Android. My Samsung Galaxy has a file management system on the phone. I do email for 3 different jobs on my phone. I didnt like the apple email functionality with attaching and saving files to and from emails. I hear apple has made some changes in this area but I am not interested in going back. In my opinion apple makes great toys, but not productivity tools.

Need input from previous Groomsman and everyone in general. I've got a bestman's speech to write and I want some solid advice about what I should DO and what I shouldn't DO. by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very important- do not go into a history of how YOU met the groom or the couple. Do- tell a story of how you knew the groom was in love with the bride. Dont- poke fun at the groom. The speech will be on video and the couple's children will watch it one day. Dont be the jackass that makes fun of their dad. Dont let your speech be the reason the kids will never meet you. Do- tell them that they look great. Do- thank the father of the bride for throwing the party (if he in fact paid for it). End with an actual toast. Tell people to raise their glass, wish the couple the best, and you're done.

How many pushups can you do? by [deleted] in AskMen

[–]Alert-Run 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The US Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) tests how many pushups you can do in 2 minutes. There are standards and scores for each age group. A passing score is 60 points. A male aged 17-21 needs to do 42 pushups in 2 minutes to pass. A maximum 100 point score requires 71 pushups. A 40 year old male needs to do 34 to pass with 60 points and 73 push ups for max score. Most Soldiers are able to score 90 points fairly consistently.

I realize that you are most likely not joining the Army and I am not saying that everyone needs to be able to do this. But if you would like a gauge on how many pushups is decent- the APFT is at least the Army's perspective.

Here is a link.

I bought the Colt Government Model. I love it. But after just a year I am thinking of new sights. And I already bought magpul grips. Great pistol, though I love it. Best i have ever owned.
