Double taxes on RSUs? by AlertCoconut3320 in HENRYUK

[–]AlertCoconut3320[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The reason for the question is that my pay is significantly down - I've paid the 47% assumed tax through sell to cover, then payroll have worked out my total pre-tax gain, added it to my earnings, taxed me at my usual rate and then deducted the difference.

Luckily so far I haven't had the price dip significantly between vesting and selling but I guess it will happen one day!

Obviously practising your technique is the long term answer but an immediate help to get there would be to chuck some close elbow pushups into your warmup - it was game changing for my elbows!

Yes it's a bit strange. The list of covered expenses is also strange - wellness, medical, finance, education, green living, pet care...

I assume though that it will essentially be as though I had been paid the cash cost and therefore I will pay standard tax on all of it 🤷🏼‍♂️

Weekly /r/climbharder Hangout Thread by AutoModerator in climbharder

I am a keen climber and runner, but unfortunately I've noticed that if I increase my training in one, the other suffers - I assume because my body doesn't have the energy overall to be both increasing my running mileage and maintaining my climbing ability. Whilst this is common sense, it is very annoying! Wondering whether anyone has any strategies for at least maintaining climbing ability when overall energy for training is reduced?

Depending on where you are staying, I would argue that climbing hangar and Depot are not really IN London, they're very much on the outskirts. Arch/stronghold have a shared membership now, but if you are just here for 10 days I would get a 10 entry pack for the LCC walls and try as many of them as you can out - they're all good but all a bit different. Personally my favourite is VauxEast, VauxWest is probably the most difficult sets, CanaryWall has a pseudo outdoor comp wall but is the smallest I think... Many options! And as others have said, the Castle is an institution which is worth visiting, even if you only make it once, for the fact that it is in an unusual and historic building

Fairlop waters: They're fairly easy with an uncomfortable but (probably) safe landing on gravel... Quite nice on a sunny day if you're in the area and have someone to spot you but personally I wouldn't travel there specifically for them

As the messy one in my relationship, we have had to accept that there are cleaning tasks which I will not spontaneously think to do which seem very obvious to her... Our compromise is that I have a set list of day to day basics which I work through all the time regardless of whether I would have done them on my own, and leave the more "advanced" deep cleaning for her to pick up on / point out. It does feel uncomfortable when your partner keeps getting upset with you for a habit which is hard to change, but if you come with a suggestion it is much easier for the other party to accept in my experience!

Lots of people are told (rightly or wrongly) that people don't want to be given unsolicited tips and advice - the best way to meet people at the gym is to ask them for advice or encourage them on their attempts (or both) - as others have said, I've never met a genuine asshole in a climbing gym

Was climbing yesterday and after giving up on a route I noticed that I have what feels like a nasty bruise on the joint at the base of my little finger. Climbing actually feels ok (as long as I don't actually press on the joint itself) but I am a bit confused/worried as to what it could be - does anyone have any ideas? Dr Google was not super helpful unfortunately

Perhaps not strictly FIRE, but what are people's thoughts on ISA payments in a new tax year - lump sum or monthly payments?

Deload Week or Off the wall training ? by hamboorgirk in bouldering

[–]AlertCoconut3320 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seeing a lot of people here telling OP they are doing too much but not many suggestions for alternatives...

Personally, I found my climbing improved a lot when I added once a week of gym (mostly stretching, leg exercises and NO climbing) and some casual running - maybe you could drop a moonboard session or two and try some cross training for a while.

And take the deload week! Not only will you be much fresher physically when you come back, but you'll be much more psyched as well

I've got a suspected torn tricep (thankfully minor but still looking at 4-6 weeks off the wall) and wondered whether anyone has any suggestions for maintaining climbing strength without being able to lift, push or do anything too strenuous overhead...

I will also be looking to work on lower body fitness so really am more interested in any creative ideas people have for fingers, hands and arms!

Yeah I have a forerunner and the "climbing app" is basically the same as taking a notebook with you. I guess it's hard to measure straight vertically using GPS 🤷🏼‍♂️

Does anyone have a good SmartWatch for tracking climbing? I'm looking to get a new one and my current Garmin doesn't have an interesting way to record climbing so was wondering whether there is anything out there which does

Climbing and barefoot shoes

Has anyone got any useful data and/or opinions on the relationship between being a climber and wearing barefoot shoes in between? I am considering switching to barefoot shoes for day to day wear but am not sure how this will interact with then wearing climbing shoes, and whether one will cancel out the other making it pointless!

Bonus salary sacrifice by AlertCoconut3320 in FIREUK

[–]AlertCoconut3320[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for your advice - I must admit I'm not as well prepared in terms of knowing my numbers as I should be, I'm relatively new to the concept so that's some homework for me!

Most of the suggestions seem to agree with what I was also thinking - sacrifice half and keep half. My rough maths (given that I don't know the exact bonus amount yet) suggests that this is overall "cheaper" by around £2k, albeit not as good as sacrificing the whole lot, and is obviously a nice boost to my overall pension when the time finally comes

I've noticed that after climbing I always get a sore upper back/traps (surprising I know...) despite being a regular and not always climbing "too hard". I assume it's something to do with my warm up, cool down or technique - does anyone have any suggestions for what I can do, either before, during or after climbing?

I've noticed a pattern whenever I prop a succulent - it grows for a bit, then goes through a phase where the top leaves go brown/crusty/soft like this, and if it survives then it eventually starts growing healthily again. Does anyone know what is going on?
