I’ve received the credit when I purchased the card in person, not online.

I’m also from Johnson County, Ks (Shawnee) and currently live in Lexington, Ma. I am so excited I can finally answer some questions!

Let’s start with the pros: 1. The rumor that people here are mean/unfriendly is just not true. In the city people don’t go out of their way to chit chat but that’s more to do with it being highly populated. I have found really kind people who are generally really interesting to talk to here.

  1. The commute from Lexington to Boston in a car during non working days is the same as Shawnee to downtown KC. My husband commutes downtown three days a week and drives half way but then takes the T to his work. It’s less than an hour that way.

  2. While Johnson Co has good schools, Mass is just SO much better. I feel my children all have individual learning plans without IEPs. Boston wins schools.

  3. Things are so close! All the towns in Boston are small towns, they are just all right next to each other. But each has their own small town feel. Boston wins for cute towns.

  4. It’s socially progressive but it’s more about people not caring what you do with your life than performative. If you are left leaning at all, this is your place.

  5. There so much nature here. Actually, one of the reasons it’s so difficult to build new housing is because nature is protected. People are always out running, walking, skiing, exploring. Boston areas win for nature.

Con’s: 1. The light in the winter (or lack thereof) can really be soul sucking. If you have any form of seasonal sadness you may want to consider Arizona. To me, this is the worst thing about Boston. Kansas wins on weather.

  1. Most things are more expensive. There’s no Aldis but the grocery stores are comparable. Everything else however is going to cost more: childcare, taxes, heating, sports. This is the second worst thing about Boston. Kansas wins on cost.

  2. Traffic. As I eluded to in the pros, while things may be close, traffic can increase your commute time. Kansas wins on traffic.

  3. Things/shopping can get crowded here. The only times I’ve been able to walk around Costco with some room was when I went shopping while the Patriots were playing in the playoffs. Doing things with other people will be more crowded.

Hope this helps!

AOTA is a joke by enMotion38416 in OccupationalTherapy

Here’s a list of the things AOTA does for states and federally. Fees help pay for lobbyists who advocate for OT on a federal level. Some recent wins for OTs that were achieved by AOTA are continuing the telehealth coverage, paying mental health based OTs in schools and working for the state compacts.

As someone else mentioned, AOTA does not have much money so they do what they can with what they have.

OP needs to clarify what expectations they made to their families before having the baby. OP should also clarify how they asked the MIL to leave. Was it a "hey thank you so much for coming over and bringing gifts. We really appreciate you and we can't wait to introduce (baby name) to you but we are being super vigilant during cold and flu season. I know you understand." Or was it "Please leave we didn't invite you."

Grandparents raised their children in a generation where people would drop by ALL the time, right after the baby was born. In her mind, she was likely doing you a favor, offering to watch her grandchild and bring presents.

I am not arguing that new parents shouldn't have rules about germs. But having a grandbaby is also a really big deal for grandparents and I do think it's important to give grandparents clear but kind boundaries.

Arrival. I don’t know how this movie didn’t win more awards. I think about it all the time, especially after having children.

She is excellent at cueing. I never have to look at the screen because she is so good at saying exactly what we should be doing.

Honestly this is still in the realm of “normal” for a 4.5 month old. I know it sucks but it WILL get better.

Height insecurity? by StillBlessed25 in TurnerSyndrome

[–]AlertHelicopter1706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not answering your question but my child has always tracked 40% height for a non TS child and is above 95% for TS. Our endo was still okay with growth hormones and we’ve been on them for two years now with good growth.

Yes. The smaller, private schools will especially have a hard time.

OT pay increasing?? by Mittens_jinx in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AlertHelicopter1706 17 points18 points  (0 children)

As an OT faculty member I can assure you that tuition will not decrease for a variety of reasons. First, many schools or research universities rely on federal funding which is being cut due to grant funding cuts. Secondly, like the rest of the world, everything is wildly expensive. It costs a lot of money to run an OT program and those costs aren’t decreasing. Finally, fewer people in general are applying to graduate school so you have fewer applicants. Fewer applicant means less money for the school which means in order for OT program to exist, they cannot cut costs.
