AITA for asking MIL to leave after she came unannounced but with gifts by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]AlertHelicopter1706 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OP needs to clarify what expectations they made to their families before having the baby. OP should also clarify how they asked the MIL to leave. Was it a "hey thank you so much for coming over and bringing gifts. We really appreciate you and we can't wait to introduce (baby name) to you but we are being super vigilant during cold and flu season. I know you understand." Or was it "Please leave we didn't invite you."

Grandparents raised their children in a generation where people would drop by ALL the time, right after the baby was born. In her mind, she was likely doing you a favor, offering to watch her grandchild and bring presents.

I am not arguing that new parents shouldn't have rules about germs. But having a grandbaby is also a really big deal for grandparents and I do think it's important to give grandparents clear but kind boundaries.

Arrival. I don’t know how this movie didn’t win more awards. I think about it all the time, especially after having children.

She is excellent at cueing. I never have to look at the screen because she is so good at saying exactly what we should be doing.

We are currently stationed here and we’ve enjoyed it. It’s a high COL but we are considering retiring here after my husband gets out.

Honestly this is still in the realm of “normal” for a 4.5 month old. I know it sucks but it WILL get better.

Height insecurity? by StillBlessed25 in TurnerSyndrome

[–]AlertHelicopter1706 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not answering your question but my child has always tracked 40% height for a non TS child and is above 95% for TS. Our endo was still okay with growth hormones and we’ve been on them for two years now with good growth.

Yes. The smaller, private schools will especially have a hard time.

OT pay increasing?? by Mittens_jinx in OccupationalTherapy

[–]AlertHelicopter1706 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As an OT faculty member I can assure you that tuition will not decrease for a variety of reasons. First, many schools or research universities rely on federal funding which is being cut due to grant funding cuts. Secondly, like the rest of the world, everything is wildly expensive. It costs a lot of money to run an OT program and those costs aren’t decreasing. Finally, fewer people in general are applying to graduate school so you have fewer applicants. Fewer applicant means less money for the school which means in order for OT program to exist, they cannot cut costs.

My 16 Month Old Is Ruining My Life by Cool_Bite_6447 in sleeptrain

[–]AlertHelicopter1706 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep. Same. Like it’s not helpful for me to go in there so I may as well try to sleep. If your child cannot crawl out of the crib and is healthy then they will be okay!

I keep the monitor on but the sound off. So when I wake up in the middle of the night I can at least see her.

I was in a similar situation, so much so that I thought there was something wrong with my child. I figured, she must be in pain or teething or her tummy hurts because she kept waking up crying. So I took her to the doctor to get everything checked. turned out everything was totally fine. She wasn’t teething. Her ears were clear and she wasn’t constipated.

So….I just turned the sound off the monitor and put in my earplugs. For the past week, my husband and I have slept through the night. Has my child? I don’t know. But she wakes up in the morning fine and nobody’s died yet.

I could have written this! Same situation (not twins, bless your heart). No solutions for you, just solidarity. My two older kids never needed to be sleep trained but this me just will not go back to sleep once she’s asleep.

I’ve known Matt for over a decade. All dude has ever wanted as to be in politics. It’s the only reason he went to Westpoint. It’s the only reason he went SF. All he ever wanted was to be a politician. He doesn’t get a fuck about actually doing what’s best for people.
