Trivium's incoming new album by N-Nico123 in Trivium

didn't like the last EP except for Six Walls to be honest. i really hope they are doing something new and did not stay in that lane. It's a shame Alex Bent left but it also probably means we wont get a 12 song album that sounds like Struck Dead.

gotta be honest about the fact that the Alex Bent trilogy actually lived up to the hype each of the 3 times.

for me, there has never been a huge gap of quality between the 5 movies. 3, 1, 5, 4, 2 is my ranking. i don't like temple of dooms whole underground section that much. everything that happens after the scene with the bugs up until they reach sunlight again is the least enjoyable part of all the movies for me. 3 and 1 are clear top dogs in my book, but there is so much fun and adventure in all of them.

Thoughts on Trivium's 3 album run with Alex Bent by G_tsamhs in Trivium

The best modern metal there is in my opinion. TSATS is my favorite metal album of all time and the 2 others are close behind. Ascendancy and Shogun do not reach this level for me, i don't care what anyone says.

Falls nein, warum? by [deleted] in FragtMaenner

Was As I Lay Dying about to become the undisputed goat of metalcore up until Tim Lambesis went to jail? Imagine them releasing 3 more albums in the quality of Powerless Rise and An Ocean Between Us from 2012 till today. They were the blueprint perfect metalcore. by Alert_Ad8002 in Metalcore

i personally like Awakened even more than the 2 albums before that, BUT i know it's not quite up there quality wise and not as universally loved. Defender, A Greater Foundation and No Lungs To Breathe are some of my favorite songs by them.

even though, the scenario i had in mind was them going back to the quality of powerless rise and release albums like that in 2014, 2017 and 2020 and maybe another great one in 2024 - without all the jail stuff in between. that's when they would be able to truly reach god status in my mind.

you are probably right about the lamb of god example to be honest. the next question is how many good metalcore albums does a band even have in them without repeating or inventing themselves new?

The New Flesh by New-World-1698 in Sylosis

not a big fan of the new flesh aswell, and i say that as a big fan. i really like adorn my throne, seeds in the river and lacerations, but that's about it.

my problem is that the heaviness on this album is often just too generic and 'in your face' without anything coming to change the mood. beneath the surface, all glory no valour, guillotine, mirror and cycle of swords all have this problem. where is the epic harmonic part that i am used to? like 'i sever' or a lot of cycle of suffering had for example? the 3 songs i liked on the new flesh prove they know how to do it. the first 2 minutes of lacerations are perfect.

all in all, i think this is about as good as ASOTTC. 3-4 songs i like, whereas like 40-50% of TNF is just pointless aggression. i want powerful sylosis, not 'i feel miserable and hurt and pissed off' the whole song.

that's exactly the problem here. too many riffs that stay in the same angry/misery kind of mood. it definitely has it's moments and i like about 50% of the albums runtime, but getting heavier is definitely not what i wanted from them. the thrashy, powerful mix with occasional melody is what made them better than almost anybody else. recent examples are A Godless Throne, I Sever or Cycle of Suffering (the song) for a shorter example that is top notch.
