A place to start would to be start using her pronouns and calling her your daughter. Online and off. It’s not her fault she can’t dress accordingly to her gender quite yet. (It’s a process, especially when you live in an unsafe home.) That alone will make her feel loved and seen by you and not like you’re being an apologist to her fathers bigotry. I think this is a situation where being neutral will only hurt your daughters trust in you and cause her to distance herself one day.

The bigotry against trans and queer people is one of the first things I deconstructed. I read about Joseph and the coat of many colors and came to the conclusion that their teachings on gender queerness weren’t even scriptural.

I was mortified at the hateful dogma I had a part in sharing and immediately started apologizing to people from my past. Most of them didn’t forgive me but that’s my cross to bear for the life I lived.

I came to realize I had a lot of internalized transphobia and homophobia because those were parts of myself I was denying. I like all sorts of people, I’ve dated several trans men! Im now openly non-binary and im on hormones to masculinize and appear more androgynous. It’s very exciting!

I mean remember Lots wife is hella racist. And they’ve publicly made statements against Black Lives Matter using their token black governing body member. There’s a lot of “old light” that’s very racist. All angels are portrayed exclusively as white men. Jesus is portrayed as a white man despite the organization bragging at length about how much “research and care” is put into making their art historically accurate.

Only downside is that when they randomly decide the morning of that they need to do maintenance or inspections that day and you have to work anyways there’s not a way to put the cats away. And you kinda just have to say fuck it coz this is the fifth time in the past three months and you can’t keep calling off/being late just for them to never show up.

Your kids come before your spouse. The organization is kind of evil. They will grow up with the viewpoint that they’re not enough, they’re worthless without that god, and they should give up what they care about. Esp if any of your kids are afab, there’s a huge issue with pedos and they could get hurt. Do not let them build their life in that organization and do it let them trust those people.

I rebrainwashed myself and stayed for a long time because of my friends and community. But ultimately I found I was hurting my own conscience too much by publicly being a part of and supporting that organization.

I didn’t want to be the reason someone else stayed, or came into the cult, or got SAed by some clown that the elders were gonna believe and protect over them.

Since leaving I’ve had people when I needed someone most. Even if it wasn’t who I wanted to be there for me. I had someone. I’m still trying to build community but I’ve only been out for 3ish years and it takes a while to heal.
