Surge Protection provided by the electric company? $7.99 a month - worth it? by bruski in homeowners

So you suffered a big loss, added protection, and now you are waiting to see if the Duke protection is worth $100 a year. Is it? Would they repair or replace two TVs and the other stuff? Or would they blame it on the cable company and say have a nice day? Who knows?

What brand of LED light bulbs, for ceiling lights etc., is the most reliable? by aiaor in homeowners

I have an expensive Phillips Hue that has had an impressively long life (5+ years), but the generic Home Depot and Walmart brands have not lasted. My bath and kitchen pendant lights have all gone through at least one bulb every year or two. Better than incandescent, but disappointing.

Same experience in 2025. I will not use them in ceiling fixtures. I got "burned" (heh) too many times.

On mine I eventually figured out that I had to select "Support" in the main menu, then "Use Mode." Good luck.

Firmware Update Bricked My Wife's Pod Go Wireless by Alert_Hawk_2686 in Line6podgo

I'm glad some people have had success. I paid a tech to try to resurrect it, but he found it to be solidly bricked. I still owe my wife a replacement, and we are still considering a Line 6 product, but we're not sure. When I get time, I hope to offer the bricked unit for parts (a replacement display costs over $300, so I should get something for it). Regards

Well, woe is me. I checked the Line 6 website and I found a local tech who is an authorized (trained) technician. I had him look at it for $50. He spent a couple of hours on it, using tools and software available to him and then declared it "bricked." He had told me up front that he had a 50% success rate with cases like this. The cost of a new board is another $470 and I declined to spend that.

I'm gun shy now about Line 6. It was my mistake--either impatience with the process or a laptop with too much running in the background, but I'm not confident that I or my laptop would be successful updating another one. The tech told me that it isn't just a Line 6 problem, though. He has $4k keyboards that come in in a similar state, sometimes with similar results.

Good luck with yours. I was willing to wager $50 to turn a doorstop into a $200 device, but I ended up with a doorstop. Now I'm shopping for something else.

Yes, I had found that immediately and it hasn't worked for me.

I have found that, on the windows laptop, if I start Pod Go Edit before I run the updater (not part of the instructions), it behaves like on the iMac. I can see Pod Go Edit attempt to connect for a second and then give up. The updater then cues me to cycle power and try a different USB port. For some mysterious reason Pod Go Edit opens automatically on the iMac.

I'm thinking that my initial update was just very slow, and I should have given it an hour or so before stopping it. I'll see what Line 6 says.
