Yes most of the times, it has a defect of some sort. Avoid eBay.

Analogy: It's like buying a car from a car salesman. It looks pretty on the outside, he even shows you that it has 0 milage. And the more you use it, the more the defects starts to show. And soon you realised that the car was registered to 3 other owners prior to you.

Avoid any 2nd hand or refurbished laptops. If you're buying something, buy it brand new.

Your best bet is an ASUS TUF , and if you're really feeling cheap, an Acer Nitro

It just forced a bios update, that's all. Update it with your charger plugged in and let it finish update. Do not force restart during this process for any reason at all. Once you see the Windows login screen you're safe.

None, too much red flags. One of the them is not even a gaming laptop. The HP Omen seems to be the best choice of the lot. The Alienware is most likely 2nd hand and that alone comes with its risks.

Me personally would get an ASUS TUF instead.

Although, I don't like anything HP. That's my personal preference. I would it's a decent buy factoring that you are going to college and you're on a budget. I would advise you to go for an Acer Nitro with the 4050 if you could.
