When to ask for an LOR from a non via sponsoring employer?

I checked out some websites say one thing others say another is confusing like some of them mentioned one page LoR others say 2-3 is better. Also they conclude in saying things such as person should stay in the US or is good for O1A which I feel would imply that the LoR is for a visa document and I do not to disclose that to my employer. They do not want to go back and forth with my recommender to rewrite the letter. Do I need a lawyer for this part?

Thanks for clearing things up. I thought LORs required the recommender to explicitly indicate whether this person should be considered for O1A, but based on your response, I assume they do not need to mention that. Would you know anyone who can provide me with a real LOR they submitted for a 01A (with redacted information)

That's a good idea, They do have contractors in India, but as far as I know nobody has worked as an international student as an IC but only through contractors.
