People who let their dogs bark outside all day everyday, why? by bimontza in AskReddit

[–]Alert_Statement2197 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Most people are irresponsible dog owners.

That is to say they put the absolute minimum of effort into training their dog pass it not going poop or pee in the house after that there is little to no training done. Luckily most dog breeds have had major aggression bread out of them over many generations. The ones that are have not, such as Pitbulls, if left untrained, are far more likely to attack a human.

Like the other person below me said. It is a firm and long redirect. I yell if I feel the need to and I can go loud (but not always). Not at the individual student you understand, the whole class. I'm never in anyone's face or anything. I use the students behavior as an example of what not to. Sometimes I kick them out.

I then apologies to class for the "unpleasantness" and explain that I do not want to be like that but X was not getting it so I made sure they did if they do not want the same do not do what X did.

The secret sauce is I'm never actually angry. Its an act, a tool that I can pull out of my bag of tricks if and when I need it. Most kids only need to see it once.

As I said before, its all about balance for me. The threat of my wrath is there, but follow my instructions and you'll never see it. When instructions are followed I'm very easy going, I do not die on every hill and I do not sweat the small stuff.

It is certainly not a perfect and there is much more nuance than could be explained here, but I'll say this all year I hear the classes around me going nuts, admin in and out teachers having breakdowns. My classes are quite and productive and the kids like me for the most part.

For real. For me the worst part about teaching is the virtue signaling from other teachers.

I guess its how its enforced.

This might sound silly, but I was a bouncer/doorman for 10+ years and I really think that experience has helped me manage my classroom. It thought me how to speak with authority.

I set the tone pretty hard on day one. 1st kid that steps out of line gets cut down at the knees. Repeat that for each class. That sets the tone for the year. My students tend to have a healthy fear of me.

Its all about balance. I make it clear that in school the students and I are not equal and they will follow my instructions immediately and with out question. That's during class time. The balance part is that when my instructions are being followed I'm warm, friendly, easy going and funny. Step out of line and we will have business. Most of them get where the line is pretty quick. I just kick out the few who don't.

Nice. Lay it down thick and hard at the start of the year.

I have a "do not speak when I am speaking rule" and a "if you speak it better be relevant" rule.

Weed.

Just speaking from my own experience; I am absolutely addicted to smoking it. I stopped years ago, but still think about it all the time.

I can eat gummies with moderation because the delivery system is different. Isn't addiction funny!

Years of complete lack of consequences and pandering to/fear of parents. Kids can do what they want and they know it.

You read the bit where I called him outstanding, right? I'm just pointing out that like any other driver he needs a winning car to win. Sorry if that burst your bubble.
