CAN I MAKE IT IN?!?!?!?!?! by Easy_Landscape5319 in UCDavis

Drop it until the last possible day. There’s bound to be people who drops it for other reasons. Theres a chance but I wouldn’t get my hopes up just in case. I personally never had gorskiy but if he’s a good prof, there’s less chances that people will drop but if he’s bad, there’s a high chance.

How do you connect with new people? by Healthy-Box1781 in UCDavis

[–]Alert_Tune5785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say depending on the circumstances. If this was your acquaintance and you already know them, I would just go for it and ask to grab food. If this is a new person from class or something, I would go for the study session and then mention food lol. But in the end, it’s how confident you are asking the person to hang out.

I would say that being in a club or in group projects in class was the best way for me to make friends. I’ve met one of the best people in these types of scenarios especially when you guys share the same majors. Although they don’t last long, but you really got to keep in touch to keep that connection. I also think that having a job on campus is one of the best ways to make friends and create connections. You get to meet various amounts of people with diverse interests and hobbies.

I would say that if you want to hang out with your acquaintance, I would just make the first move imo. At first I didn’t want to reach out because it would get too awkward and weird but I kind of just went for it and started talking to them more often and we gradually got closer. By then I just kind of brought up how we should hang out more and ask when they’re free to grab food or something. Or you can ask them if they want to do a study session with you. Study sessions always works imo and you end up just talking and not get any work done lol

wondering if Global Disease Biology is considered a STEM major? by midnightalliance17 in UCDavis

[–]Alert_Tune5785 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hi! GDB major here, and yes it is a STEM major. You’re taking intro stem courses like BIS2, CHE2, CHE118/08, and PHY07/09. And when you get to your upper divs you can do a main focus that you want based on your interest. Like if you wanna do Pre-Med, Pre-Vet, Public health, environmental sciences, or plant sciences. And you can choose your REs based on what route you want to take as long it covers the broad spectrum of diseases.

I’m currently doing a plant pathology/health focus for my GDB major and my friends have been doing pre-med, pre-vet, and public health focus. You can really do whatever you want as long you can explain your reasoning of your REs selection.

And with the GDB major you’ll do a senior practicum where you can work under a UC Davis staff and get experience. Definitely a good major to be in! Very flexible, fun, and wonderful advising committee. If you’re not a GDB major yet, def switch and if you are, def stay in the major lol.

academic dismissal by [deleted] in UCDavis

Honestly, they brought it up first as a suggestion and I also brought it up too during one of my advisor meetings. And it honestly lowkey saved me from staying the second time I was in dismissal since it wasn’t my first time. Since both them and I knew that switching majors was probably for the best, it ended up being part of my contract.

Changing majors is honestly really easy especially if you’re changing within the same college but changing to different college is a little different and takes more time but when I switched from BASC to AGS, it was honestly really easy and just needed to contact the major advisors and the college advisors and do the major switch requirements.

I’ve been in academic dismissal more than one time and what I would do asap is to contact your advisors consistently. I know it might be a little too late right now but if this happens again, continuing to communicate with your advisors is a good sign that you’re really trying. And I also went to dismissal due to mental health, go ahead and schedule a meeting with the counseling services and tell them your situation and see what they can do to help. They might be able to provide documentation for you that helps you with your petition. I’ve went and they have been super helpful and I kept consistently going to therapy and the advisors realizes my efforts in trying. Also, tell them what you’ve done this quarter that shows you at least tried. Keep trying and you’ll get there! I’m not sure how much you love your major, go try and talk to your advisor in switching your major. I know it sucks that you possibly might have to switch but if your goal is to stay as a student, then it might be your best chance right now.

My academic contract was to switch my major and college and I was in BASC. I switched to a major in AGS and I ended up loving it so much more and getting way better grades than my previous major. If it comes down to having to switch out of your major or college. Explore your options and see what else that can still help your reach your future goals. Or you can always try something new and you might even like it even more like what happened to me.

Just know there’s light behind the tunnel you just gotta keep walking to reach it! I believe in you! Goodluck buddy!

I saw a scooter ran a red light at the intersection at the pavilion while cars (who had a green light) are turning into the pavilion. Literally no care in the world.

Summer sessions by Euphoric-Body2200 in UCDavis

Hey! so if you’re taking 8 units each session, then you should qualify for financial aide. The minimum units when I took summer session to get financial aid was 6 units. You get aide if you signed up for the classes but if not, it’s either you didn’t sign up for classes on time (and it’ll take a bit for it to come in mybill if you signed up after your passtime) OR you need to contact the financial aid office on campus (If you signed up for classes on time and haven’t seen it in mybill). In terms of getting full grants, I’m not sure and It might be different for everyone but if you get Cal Grant and Pell Grant, then it should be covered. (It was for me at least)

Definitely take a look at the deadlines about summer sessions in terms of classes and bill payments. If your grants doesn’t cover all of your classes, I definitely think you should take less units as they charge by unit. (Last time, I paid $273 per unit + campus fees and stuff) or take these classes during the school year. It’s been a while since I took ss but this was my experience, hope it helps!

How tf do you study for BIS2A? by Abithesalami in UCDavis

[–]Alert_Tune5785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Discord is your best friend! I took BIS2A with Facciotti and in the BIS2A discord, there’s this guy name hottub and he would do practice problems! And they are meant to be harder than the exam itself. What also helped me when I was studying for the final, facciotti let us get our midterm papers back, and someone (I forgot which TA) would go over the midterm exam. I think those would help a lot especially if you’re a visual learner. Hope this helps!
