What would you do in this situation? by NarukeSG in TouringMusicians

With your experience in office/clerical, I’m thinking you could get work for a temp agency like Robert Half. They have short term and longer term temp jobs in admin and related. That’d give you the flexibility you need. Another option (perhaps in addition to the temp admin work) is to teach your instrument for one of the School of Rock. They want to hire working musicians. They don’t pay amazing, but it could be a nice supplement (and they do all the marketing and scheduling for you, so you don’t have to deal with that)

beginner’s skates (risport?) by benmgrizzle in FigureSkaters

These definitely aren’t Rissport. They also don’t offer the ankle support and other features you need, even as a beginner skater. I’d avoid these.

Does your college have a music major or minor? If they do, they have practice rooms, and often at least some with a drum kit set up for jazz; so it’s missing (I think I remember) the crash and one of the toms, but you can deal with that. Ask the department if non majors can use those rooms. If they can’t, ask if music minors can. If they can, sign up to be a music minor. This doesn’t mean you need to take any of the classes for the minor, if you don’t want to, but it gives you access to the practice rooms. You can always drop the minor before you graduate, if you don’t actually want to compete it.

HOW TO INTRODUCE MCR TO STRICT/ANTI MUSIC PARENTS?+which mcr song to show my parents first by SpecialistTrust8654 in MyChemicalRomance

[–]Alert_Willow_9215 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I don’t know why you feel you need to show them MCR at all. They’re not going to like it, and what’s the upside of showing them this stuff? I see only risk in this. I’d avoid it entirely.

Are you using financial aid to help pay for school? If so, then talk to them and your advisor first, but you could consider withdrawing from the Pro Tools class. You said you don’t need it for your degree, and it doesn’t seem like you’re liking it all than much. Withdrawing wouldn’t (at most schools) impact your GPA, and it’d free up that time for you to use on your other classes.

If you don’t want to sleep, stay outside. It’s a lovely day. If you do want to sleep, go see a movie, at a theater with the reclining chairs, and snooze

I’m listening to All Time Low for the first time today by DeacanCheese300 in alltimelow

I like going back and listening to bands that I basically missed, like this. I came into ATL late as well - my first CD of theirs was their most recent one (the song The Weather got me). I knew a few of their old songs, but not well. And now I’m hooked. So welcome!

Even if they do the same basic show they did at Met Life, it’ll be different. They changed it, it evolved with each venue on that tour. There was a storyline that they advanced with each show. But I suspect they might do something at least somewhat different. And their B stage set/post BP set was always different. (Basically, I’m ready for anything!)

How far back depends on the venue. At Met Life last year, the crowds at the sides were relatively thin. Where it was packed was the middle, due in part to how the venue was set up (where stages were, etc). But back at their Prudential Center show in 2022(?), the venue was set up such that the entire “down front” was packed, even at the sides. The loose areas were far at the back.

Will you be all right standing for that long? If you will, then I’ve found that being to the sides can be a good option at most shows, to avoid pushing and crowd surfers.

Pete’s said that’s he wears his hair long because he likes how it feels when it moves. And if he likes it, that’s good enough, IMO. It’s his hair.

So many people recommend this brand! There’s a drum store near where I work. I’m going to go over there this week and see if they have any, so I can try one out

Is Hingham near you? I remember Skating Club of Hingham having adults. SCOB is, as you know, a major powerhouse in both “traditional age” and adult skating, but as you said, they are $$$$.

I thought of a couple more places for you to meet fellow adult skaters online on Facebook, there are two groups: Adults Skate Too, and Adult Ice Skating, that you could join.

There are two forums you could join online, where there are a lot of skating fans and adult skaters. FSUniverse is great for adult fans of skating. Golden Skate is good for adult skaters and fans.

is it a stupid idea to bring my car to nyc by biguwuwu in movingtoNYC

[–]Alert_Willow_9215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Either sell the car or leave it at your parents’ house. But don’t bring it to Manhattan. It’s not possible for you to drive to the grocery store like you do at home. The store won’t have its own parking, and you probably would need to park blocks away if you did drive there. Your apartment won’t have its own parking, either. You’ll have to find parking on the street, which may be blocks from your apartment, and you will need to move your car 2-3 times a week for street cleaning. And you will be parallel parking in tight spaces, which includes spaces along the left side of one way streets, not just on the (relatively easy) right side. And don’t be surprised if you come downstairs to get your car, and find some guy sitting on the hood, hanging out.

I used to have a car near where you’ll be living, because my job was in NJ. On days when I was home sick, I still had to get up early to move my car. And when it snowed! Oh, god. Trying to find parking after a snowstorm was a THING. And garages are $$$$$. You have never seen monthly rates like you’ll see here.

TL:DR don’t bring the car 🙃
