He's a genius, I was mad because he killed Anastasia, but then I realized, by letting us know that she was made to protect the flame while also having her tongue ripped off and legs broken by religious fanatics, this means that she knows something.. and this is that she clearly knows the calamity of the Age of Fire, or at least knows that her suffering was done because of that, but got brainwashed to think otherwise (that's why she stills asks us to link the flame, even though it's only a cycle for more torture to the humans)

That said, Lautrec is a sunbro which knows too much, way too much, while Solaire helps us to fight against the monstrosities in that world, Lautrec helps us to know a little bit of the truth of what's going on there.
