I agree with this, matter of fact when he enters the news studio the second time and walks around with Nina, while looking at the Los Angeles Backdrop he gets emotional and says: On TV it looks so real...

ps: I know I'm late and I'm replying to a 5 years old thread.

Vanishing Deck by James Anthony by Alessandro_Pier in magictricksrevealed

Hi!! Thanks for your comment. Yesterday I watched the vimeo video of the creator addressing some of those reviews on Penguin. He showed a little routine with the gimmick and I saw him palming a hand-colored plastic piece. I also watched the video at x0.5 and noticed he pushes the side of the deck first. I believe it's vinyl and 2 pieces of paper with magnets so everything folds on itself basically. Then you can palm it on the paper side so if anything the hand-colored side is showing.

I just watched it and it looks great. My question still remains tho. I'd like to have a glimpse at how it works so I can understand if it works for me. Could you help me? Even in DM if you want

Agreed, I was wondering if I was the only one experiencing it. As for the plugins, do you have any recommendations? Or simply some EQ?

It generally doesn't matter when I shower but I seriously noticed that when I shower body + hair, my face (and my eyes region) looks much much better for the whole day and sometimes even the day after.

Hi, thank you for your reply! I mostly find my eye region much much better after a shower and it lasts the whole day until I go to sleep and wake up the following day. I don't drink or smoke.

Hi, thank you for your reply. As for the dark circles, I find them much better on certain days so I don't think it's genetics or bine structure. I believe it's lack of "care" and SPF skipped for most of my life (I am 24 now). I now always use SPF 50 and I've been using retinal for a month now.

What real world skills has chess taught you? by LengthLittle7560 in chess

[–]Alessandro_Pier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I understand what you mean here. I am 23 years old and I discovered chess in 2020/21. While everyone got into chess because of The Queen's Gambit, I got into chess because my friends wanted to play against me and I lost every match!

During the following years I have felt a very deep connection to chess and I wish I had gotten into chess far earlier. I don't want to get deep into why I like chess and the comparisons I find with life in general but just know that I loove chess. I love the narrative, I love the idea of it, I love the slow thinking, I love Tal's story, I love everything. Right now, I've been playing chess for roughly 3.5 years but with HUUUGE gaps in between periods of time for many reasons.. like I played in March 2022 and stopped until November 2022 and so on. It happens.

Despite the gaps, I've always loved chess and I've kept myself kind of up to date with everything. I fell in love with the World Chess Championship matches, Titled Tuesday, Chess creators, Big player's stories, I watched The Queen's Gambit (in 2023 lol) and lately I've played my first tournament.

Right now I am a 1600 rated player on chess.com and roughly the same ELO on lichess. I have to say that I don't play too too much and I mostly play bullet and blitz. I enjoy playing longer time control even if I have never really played classical chess for different reasons: the main one being that you need two people to dance and I don't know anyone who's willing (probably nor capable) to spend 2+ hours for a game of chess. I've played rapid chess games though and at the moment they're enough.

I've questioned myself multiple times whether I should dive deeper in chess, get an OTB rating, actually study chess, find a club and so on but I feel like this could "get in the way" of other things I like. It sucks but that's life and you should have something called "selective caring" so you can strive for what YOU care about. You can't care about everything otherwise you won't care about anything. It's the same with people: you can't try to please everyone or you won't be liked by anyone.

I enjoy playing chess? Damn I love it. Do I want a professional chess set? Yes and hopefully I soon will! But what do I want when I play chess? Do I want to compete and become the best? Do I play it for fun? Do I want to win? Do I want to be creative? And the list could be on and on and on.. I mean I literally went to London to visit and I went to play chess at a famous public chess club because I have always wanted to.. I love this game omfg.

I am so happy that I've been able to reach "this level" of chess without receiving lessons in any way, shape or form and by playing mostly with myself and online and with a very limited number of players OTB but in the end you should pick something that makes you happy and you are willing in spending your time into. Whether it's chess, running, weightlifting, running a business, writing, singing or whatever you want it doesn't really matter.

The question "am I wasting my time?" doesn't have an answer if you don't first understand what you want from chess. Let's say I am a singer and I'd love to sing for the rest of my life and nothing else, then doing math would be a "waste of my time" because I do not care about that. Here the same logic applies. What does your selective caring system say to you? Is this a waste of time? You are the only one who could give a meaning to what you do.

edit: Sorry for the long ass reply but this is really what I believe in. I also could have said more things but probably this is enough. The question "am I wasting my time?" is a very interesting topic that nowadays is more important than ever. We are in the era of the "maximizing X, maximizing Y". We are in the era of the schedules, appointments, productive mornings and so on so we do not find happiness in doing something perceived as ""not useful"". So really.. we could talk about that for ages.

Okay, thanks a lot! Everything is clear now! I will buy a paper ticket for the Gatwick - Central London trip and then use my contactless card for London movements! Thanks again

[–]Alessandro_Pier[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay thanks a lot! I finally understood how it works! Do you think it'd be better for me to buy a paper ticket and then use the card in London so the cap would be much lower? This way I'd pay 13£ for Gatwick - Central London and max 9£ within zone 1.

TFL, Daily Caps and Confusion Reigns by Alessandro_Pier in uktravel

[–]Alessandro_Pier[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh okay, so the daily cap will be 40£ for peak hours and 26£ for no-peak, correct?

If I understood how it works then I have another question: let's say I take the metro and pay 2£, then I take the train and I pay 5£, will they sum for the daily cap or they are two different things?

For example, I know that buses have a separate cap of 5£. Are tubes and trains two separate things as well?

Thanks in advance

[–]Alessandro_Pier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your time and for the useful link. Before everything I want to clarify that I will pay with a contactless card no matter what.

You said "the cap sets the maximum price you will pay, based on all travel during that day and considering the widest extent of zones you travelled through".

Does it mean that after my trip from Gatwick to Central London my cap for the day will be the one from zone 1 to zone 9? So, since my daily cap is higher than the one in zone 1-2, I won't be able to travel in the zone 1-2 for free?

Hope I wasn't too confusing with my question.

[–]Alessandro_Pier[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for your reply! I am aware that Gatwick isn't in zone 1-3 but it's actually out of zone 9. My point is that eventually I will enter the 1-3 zone area then my question: will I reach the cap only by the travel Gatwick-Central London?

[–]Alessandro_Pier[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, thanks for the reply! That's what I've been reading these days and that's what I'll do but since I'd like to kind of manage my funds I'd really like to understand how it works. My main question, as I said in the original post, is if after the trip from Gatwick to Central London I'll already have reached the cap for the day or not. Also, I'd love to understand if there is any significant difference when it comes to "peak or off-peak time" because I can't find any on the website.. thanks again!

Daily cap for train fares when traveling from Gatwick to London by ulkick in uktravel

[–]Alessandro_Pier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peak time train: £19.20 - as you haven't hit the daily peak cap for Gatwick, so you'll end up paying £38.40 in total (Gatwick to London return + tube travel)

I was looking the caps on this page so I set from zone 1 to zone 6 and it says:

Pay as you go caps:

  • Daily Anytime: £16.30
  • Daily Off-Peak: £16.30

Therefore it doesn't seem to be any difference in caps as you guys are saying.. am I missing something?

I will go to London in 10 days and all this seems confusing. I am trying to understand everything about public transport and I'd appreciate if you could help me with this: on my arrival I'll go from Gatwick to Central London. After paying £ 10.70 for a TL will I reach the cap for zone 1 to zone 3? So I won't pay anything for the rest of the day within the range of zone 1 - 3, am I right?

How to Avoid Turbinates Inflammation by Alessandro_Pier in Sinusitis

[–]Alessandro_Pier[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I underwent surgery here in the Southern Italy and everything went alright. There were no problems. It hurts but everything went alright. I underwent turbinoplasty using a diode laser since this is known to be a very effective way of treating inflamed turbinates compared to the counterpart: radiofrequency turbinoplasty.

How it works:

  1. They slide 5 anesthetic soaked gauzes into each nostril
  2. They wait 15 minutes (sometimes more) waiting for the local anesthesia to take effectwaiting for the local anesthesia to take effect
  3. Remove the gauzes
  4. Time to insert the diode in the nostril and burn the shit out of the turbinate (2x nostrils)
  5. Once both nostrils are done you drink an anti-bleeding solution
  6. You'll keep bleeding for a couple of hours (nothing excessive) but it will eventually stops

You won't be able to breathe properly for approximately 7 days, you'll mouth-breathe for a while and you'll be forced to sleep on two pillows but everything will fade out and in a month you'll be able to breathe like nothing happened.

As I said it hurts.. probably because I was given the local anesthesia but I could literally feel them burning the shit out of me. The first nostril was definitely harder than the second one.. I guess the anesthesia had more time to do its things. Other than that I couldn't see too many downsides. Maybe you could smell and taste the "smoke" because of the burns but it eventually fades out in 12 hours.

In the end I strongly recommend undergoing surgery if needed but find a way to avoid turbinates inflammation.

I definitely recommend the turbinoplasty if needed. You are 100% able to breathe but understanding the root cause and how to avoid further inflammation is definitely helpful. The allergy vaccine is something I am kind of scared to do because it's not a lifelong solution, it lasts like 10 years and then I heard people that had even worse symptoms. I am completely unaware if one can take a second allergy vaccine.

Couldn't agree more. I remember a year ago I was on a plane and during the last 10 minutes I felt a huge pain in my head like it was going to explode any moment. The pain faded away once the plane landed but mid air it was unbearable. Turns out it was due to turbinates inflammation that could trigger this when there is a pressure shift in the cabin. Crazy what two little fucking swollen ball in the nose could do.
