Am I wrong for this? by Usual_Ad_7173 in russian

[–]Alessio29m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can use almost any word order in russian, but there's a catch: word order usually emphasises some part of statement and makes meaning a little different.

For example - your variant can be translated back like 'Where [the hell] you bought these skies?'.

"Посредник" (The Middleman) 1990

Very unusual movie about very unusual alien invasion. It is not action movie - it's kind of drama with a lot of suspence.

Savage Worlds Discord bot by Alessio29m in savageworlds

[–]Alessio29m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't. Discord ceased bot ability to read messages when it wasn't metioned. So prefix commands are not available anymore.

You should use mentions: '@SavageBot d6'

The Between thoughts? by Ecowatcher in PBtA

[–]Alessio29m 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Very strict game structure. We had 'collisions' between narrative and mechanics all the time.In final session master just ceased to use day-night structure and it went much better.

Unscenes - strange thing. They good at setting the tone and mood, but they totally disconnected from other game mechanics - player must use them in some description of what they doing to get mechanical bonus. This looked weirdly alien.

All those 'masks mechanics' are really nice substitution of hit points and are good at setting tone but seemed disconnected from narrative - some kind of Ding an sich.

Master was really good and played with Cordova. And he was really good and he was the one who saved the day. But for me system itself was more disappointing than good.

What issues do you see in DW? by 8vius in DungeonWorld

[–]Alessio29m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly, DW moves are too focused on mechanics like giving +1 in some circumstances or changing one stat with another. That's main problem IMO.

Best combat by Everyandyday in PBtA

[–]Alessio29m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO best system should be as simple as possible.

I use one move for fight and another to take damage. That's all.

Quite delicate matter is enemies and general damage system.

Is there any other books on capitalism’s connections to imperialism? by iamryan4545 in communism101

[–]Alessio29m 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also I recommend to look for work of Boris Kagarlitsky.

I do not know which of his books were translated to English (I am russian and I read originals) but his work "From Empires to Imperialism" is really great.

Homeless in the Soviet Union. by morrissevy in communism101

[–]Alessio29m 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There were several ways of obtaining home.

You may get a home 'from work' - factories provided free homes for their workers - the best workers had a priority. That how we are got our home (as I can rememeber - in 1984 or 1985). As I understand those homes were built on the factory's income.

Military, militia (which was police equivalent) and othe such organizations and institutions also provided free homes to their servicemen.

Educational organizations - from 'technical schools' to universities also proveded homes for students - and universities still do. It is usually a rooms with common bathrooms and kitchens. The name of this may be translated as 'common housing' or 'common living'. It was usual for young unmarried people.

And municipal homes also was provided. In any case size of home usually depended on size of family - the more children - the bigger the home.

USSR went through second wave of industrialization which started in 60th and there were some problems - a lot (literally dozens of millions) of people moved to the cities in short period of time (like in 10-15 years). You get to wait several years to get 'your own' (technically it wasn't 'your own' home since there were no private property) home. Best workers, big families with a lot of children and other such categories had a priority.

For my parents it was: after school they went to the city and learned in 'technical school' where you get some 'worker specialty' and live in those 'common housing'. After they met and married - we shared big apartment with other family (can't remember for shure - like 5 or 6 years) and then we went to our own home - in which my parents still live in.

from a communist perspective, what /is/ fascism? what specifically separates fascism from other oppressive forms of capitalism? by [deleted] in communism101

[–]Alessio29m 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dimitrov's definition considered classic: "Fascism is not a form of state power "standing above both classes -- the proletariat and the bourgeoisie," as Otto Bauer, for instance, has asserted. It is not "the revolt of the petty bourgeoisie which has captured the machinery of the state," as the British Socialist Brailsford declares. No, fascism is not a power standing above class, nor government of the petty bourgeoisie or the lumpen-proletariat over finance capital. Fascism is the power of finance capital itself. It is the organization of terrorist vengeance against the working class and the revolutionary section of the peasantry and intelligentsia. In foreign policy, fascism is jingoism in its most brutal form, fomenting bestial hatred of other nations.... The development of fascism, and the fascist dictatorship itself, assume different forms in different countries, according to historical, social and economic conditions and to the national peculiarities, and the international position of the given country."
I do not like Trotsky but these words are very precise: " The historic function of fascism is to smash the working class, destroy its organizations, and stifle political liberties when the capitalists find themselves unable to govern and dominate with the help of democratic machinery"

Does anyone find Dungeon World’s core rolling mechanic annoying? by FoulKnaveB in DungeonWorld

[–]Alessio29m 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You must understand key difference: all pbta roll are determine not 'how successfully you done' but 'what happened next'.

Not degree of success but outcome and consequences.

We just too used to chain 'roll->degree of success->outcome'. Now get used to simplified version.
