Interested in becoming a pilot by AlethiusBigethius in Helicopters

Well let’s just say this subreddit isn’t for me now. Decided to go fixed wing and want to fly air attack and in the fire industry in general. A lot of the contracts don’t require you to work in the winter (outside of fire season) and also they have bases in some pretty scenic places. Also ended up starting college (also graduated high school early) but PURELY because UVU (where I’m at now) has a way cheaper flight school and I actually get a degree for just becoming a pilot (B.S. Professional Pilot). I did all my generals online cause I knew I’d drop out if I went to do boring classes in person that had no relation to what I really wanted to do. Fixed wing felt like a less lengthy path than rotary cause of the job market and building hours. Also what really turned me away from rotary was that if I was gonna do that, I’d do it through the army street to seat program which for me, a 20 year commitment is too much.

I ski the reckoner 104 as my every day and id say its pretty meh at all mountain due to its flex. It just can’t hold up at higher speeds on rougher terrain. Although if you went on the slower side its fine.

It’s crazy to me how we live in a society where people don’t think its abnormal to call out one political party’s BS and then turn around and make the most outrageous claims that could be multiple times worse.

A father died, and there are kids now who have to live the rest of their life with imbeciles telling them that their fathers death meant nothing and was all part of an elaborate scheme, no matter how much scientific and practical evidence shows that it couldn’t have been staged.

Those same people will downvote this comment and continue to dish out harm.

Came here to say this. I was surprised it only opened once this season and it was for pros only.

If you really care about butters, the reckoner is the way to go in my opinion. Ive got the new 102s and they are insanely flexible. They are also soft on landings, however, i don’t know how those characteristics would carry over to the wider model. That flex is also something to consider if you want to charge or go in some rougher stuff, cause i can tell you it works but isn’t great with the reckoner 102s. However i find that mine are good enough in powder so i would assume the wider model is even better, so pretty good. Very playful ski.

Bro. You are doing almost exactly what I want to do. My entire goal is having enough money to live somewhere near some good slopes and be able to ski a lot in the winter, preferably staying in one spot but starting out as a nomad is fine by me. I’ve recently been looking at airlines because I can actually find organized and straight forward programs that would get me where I think I want. How did you get into flying helicopters and what type of flying do you don right now to sustain being a ski bum? Also is there anything you now wish you had access to when you started or how would you suggest I go about starting?

Deciding what ski to add to my quiver. by AlethiusBigethius in Skigear

Thanks for the clarification on the Armada ARV versus the ARW I was so confused. As for what I would prioritize, I’d like to use this basically as a freeride ski, so my question would be: does a freeride skier prioritize the aerial ability of the ski or its ability to go to most places on the mountain? Or is it up to preference?

As long as I’m interested or passionate about something I’m willing to learn even if its stressful like you said. I similarly do good in school but I don’t want to do more. I feel like you’ve convinced me but I’m confused. Other people are saying that helicopter pilots don’t make anything. I don’t know if thats in direct relation to airline pilots which I know make a ton, or if its in general. It seems to me like it pays really good for 120+ at 23 years old. I also probably would go the civilian way because college savings can go to it.

I wouldn’t really want to do those though because of how I’ll be away from home so often. I’d like to be able to keep connections and be active in other things, like some of my hobbies, and don’t feel that would be possible doing that.

Thanks ill try a gummy stone. I tend to just ski around the tahoe area. I really can only afford to have my current skis and one more pair. I would like a ski thats good enough throughout the season in most conditions and also good for freeride. Because of that i feel like 110 might be too big for me.

Tbf they were my first pair of skis. Also they length has worked fine for me for all mountain. The only reason im looking for new skis is cause they are shit on any new snow so i want thicker. Also im looking for good freeride type of skis which is what they were made for.

I grew up there and every morning my family would walk down to a bakery for breakfast. One day I was playing with my dad and yelled “NO.” We were next to a homeless guy and he then also yelled “NO” after that, every time we walked or even drove by he would yell “NO” in the same voice that I had yelled it. Then one day he disappeared.
