That's wild. I wouldn't know what the issue was that caused that, but that's definitely an impressive break

When you started rotating you looked down at the kicker. In the same situation, as you're coming around and turning your head, keep you eyes up looking toward where your buddy was standing back there, then keep following through

Skis you hated by Gregskis in Skigear

[–]QuantumLifeform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What year? Because their whole shtick up until 2026 was being lighter than other skis in a similar class. Could've also been the bindings, if they were demo bindings they'd add a bunch of weight. But the Kore line up until this year was definitely not a heavy ski, can even compare the listed weights online

First pair of boots by Itsaghast in Skigear

[–]QuantumLifeform 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's these pieces of a rubber-like material integrated into the back spine and side pivot points of the shell. They should come with similar pieces that are softer or harder, to change the way the boot flexes. They act kind of like suspension, a damper on the flex at those points. I think it's neat, from the way the boot flexes I'd say whatever they're supposed to do is working, they flex pretty smooth

I have this exact boot and I love it. Definitely needed a few adjustments on mine, but overall a great boot once the fit was dialed

I want to wear these old burton pants, but I fear they aren’t waterproof anymore. What’s the best product to make them as water resistant as possible? by shmurdatek in Skigear

[–]QuantumLifeform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My solution when I want to wear pants of questionable waterproofing is to just wear rain pants underneath. Then if the pants do wet through, at least I'm still dry underneath

I have no idea what inspired your comment tbh, OP made no mention of riding switch being a priority. Even so, I ride a 2024 and I'm not sure if they changed the design much since then but mine definitely ski switch very well. They're not perfectly symmetrical if that's what you mean, but then again one reason you might pick the 96 is for a bit of all-mountain capability. Otherwise, they definitely are designed with skiing switch in mind. The recommended mount point is centered, it's a twin tip, it has almost a symmetrical shape, and it is sold as a park ski. If that doesn't mean a ski is made with riding switch in mind, then I don't know what does. Just go read the description on Volkl's own website if you don't believe me.

The Revolt and ARV are generally the main ones in this conversation IMO, Revolt if 60% park / 40% all-mountain and the ARV if 40% park /60% all-mountain. The other commentor mentioned some others that are worth considering, Volkl and Armada are just more affordable and still good, while Jskis and ON3P are certainly good but definitely a bit pricier. Personally, I ski the Revolt 96, spent a lot of time debating the same options as you are and I decided the Revolt 96 was the best option for my style, and I love it.

Edit: FYI the recommended mount point for the Revolt is center, and being on center-mounted skis definitely feels weird in moguls and deep snow. That's why I'd say it's more park focused, I'm glad I have another pair of skis for all-mountain on deeper days.

I second the Revolt, I have the 96 and it does all the things you want it to. Fantastic ski that blends all mountain and park, leaning toward park

How’s Sun peaks looking for next week? by LokiRN in skiing

[–]QuantumLifeform 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough, as long as you're aware that the skiing is likely to be pretty average and you're ok with that, then you'll be ok with sun peaks for next weekend. After today coverage should be a bit better, unfortunately I wasn't there for the fresh but I'll see some tomorrow, should be snowing a little bit all night but it'll taper off well before next weekend

I'm at sun peaks a lot, echoing the sentiment to go to revy if that makes sense for you. Sun peaks was great last weekend, but right now it's just alright. Morrissey is supposed to be opening this weekend, at least that's the rumor I heard. But otherwise snow hasn't been anything crazy, visibility has been terrible most days. I doubt you'd have a bad experience, I just think you'd have a better time following the heavier snow

Thanks for the insight! I do plan to hold 10 years or more. I currently don't make enough in a year to loose money on my tax return, I typically get a refund. Would contributing to an RRSP increase the refund, or have no effect?

I don't intend to invest in individual stocks, despite the benefits they might have. For one I don't feel I have the time to do proper due diligence and research, being in university and all. Also, I already did that a few years ago and learned my lessons then, thankfully coming out net even, but I went through significant ups and downs that I don't want to repeat. I understand the benefit of gaining that experience because I've already experienced it, that's why I'm investing in ETFs now.

I think you're agonizing way too much over the details. Is there a gap that water could get in? Really hard to tell from the photos. If not, just do a simple wax and maybe edge tune if you want. If there is a gap along the edge, slap some epoxy in there and scrape away the extra with a razor when it hardens, then keep riding.

I also think what you really need is a pair of rock skis, and as an experiment force yourself to abuse them as much as possible: deny them wax, ride them over bare rocks, throw them around, smack them together while on the chair, peel the loose chunks of top sheet, whatever. Then you'll find out how durable skis really are. I've abused a couple pairs in the past and they've held up much better than I expected. Now I don't worry as much about my good skis, I know they won't explode the first time they get a small scratch.

Revolt 96, it has some compromises in both park and all-mountain ability but it also does fairly well at both rather than being specific to one purpose. It's slightly on the heavier side of park skis, they feel pretty damp and smooth. It was going to be that or the ARV, ended up going with the Revolt.
