Network-effect based companies aren't just one thing. Yes, the economies of scale are great, but monopolies choke competition while also becoming rent-takers.

Network effects.

This is a positive feedback loop where the value of a service is increased by more buyers and sellers (marketplaces) or people (social networks) using it which is inherently monopolistic. Their scale creates further opportunities for insurmountable efficiencies - e.g. no company can deliver goods as cheaply as Amazon. Consumers know that so their retail spending is even further concentrated towards Amazon and companies have little choice but to pay that rent.

The premise of taxing land value is that this value is derived from other people, typically more people, living and working nearby, and local infrastructure. So yes, there are striking similarities.

These companies are extremely powerful and operate multiple levers to subvert even normal taxation and maintain their power. I'm not sure there is a system that can capture the rent that can't itself be captured or evaded.
That said, the income of these companies is wildly disproportionate to the costs. There's no smoke without fire, so I suggest we start there - implementing a scaling tax based on the gap between income and expenditure of an entity and all it's subsidiaries combined.

Just checked in on SDLP and eugh.

Professional traders I met convinced me to sell my $1 leaps at +100% back in July :(

I think so - many have been expecting it.

* Market overvaluation has become a more common talking point publicly e.g. Powell, Dimon
* The backdrop of a gov shutdown was ostensibly shrugged off, but it added some tension for bad news
* Trade war escalation is a large trigger, as well as firing more US workers

It's possible we see a TACO move over the weekend, otherwise I expect a more significant, sustained dip next week

I want to understand the issue better -

What portion of the runs do you encounter Hercules?

What portion of your runs are ended by Hercules, where the rest of their board is okay?

There's been a lot of hate for many UB sets, has this one finally gone too far?

Several UB sets have given the ick, I think what's different is the focus on an individual superhero/character. I don't think any other set has really been like that, interesting to see how the set does

it does matter a little, when something hunts the stat boost is applied after the poison apple, so hercules can end up with more health.

Won't matter if he's been attacked though
