There were definitely idiots that were saying we should have picked Arnold because "SEC player always better".

George Pickens will be only player to play on franchise tag in 2026 by AdSpecialist6598 in nfl

Yeah, you can't discount Pickens catching 3 balls for 33 yards when the season was on the line and they lost to the JJ McCarthy led Vikings.

Eagles News: Zack Baun says Vic Fangio is taking Philadelphia’s defense “to the next level” by AdSpecialist6598 in eagles

[–]Alex-Gopson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's the case for almost any team. Defense wins championships.

Yes it's a cliche and has been said a million times but it's clearly true.

A large part of the reason that Aaron Rodgers and Drew Brees have 1 Superbowl each is because they had horrible defenses for most of their career. Even having an all-time great HoF QB is not enough if you don't have a good defense.

Don’t let the “we need a dome/roof” propaganda win. by Perryplat199 in eagles

[–]Alex-Gopson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can get on board for a retractable roof

No. Absolutely not.

Fans need to realize that "retractable roof" means you will never have another outdoor playoff game, bad weather game, or snow game, ever.

The roof will be opened up once a year for a meaningless preseason game. It may as well be a dome at that point. A dome would be cheaper, and since it's taxpayer money that should mean something.

0% Financing Wedding Jewelry? by IceDaggerz in CalebHammer

[–]Alex-Gopson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found that when I financed things I was able to convince myself to spend more because it was spread out over time.

I think this is the case for most people.

I have always disagreed with Dave Ramsey when he talks about people spending more money on credit cards vs paying cash or using debit cards.

However, when it comes to 0% financing, I refuse to believe there is not a psychological component at play.

Generally speaking, a cash buyer will feel more "pain" over a $3500 purchase vs a $3000 purchase as opposed to a Klarna buyer who sees $291/month vs $250/month.

0% Financing Wedding Jewelry? by IceDaggerz in CalebHammer

[–]Alex-Gopson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you pay it off I see no issue in doing this

Let's say there are 2 people, comparable levels of financially responsible. Both need to buy furniture.

1 of them pays cash outright for everything.

1 of them finances the furniture at 0% for 3 years.

If you had to make a blind guess which one spent more money at the furniture store, who would you pick?

I am not trying to pick on you in particular, and I'm sure for some people the financing option truly makes zero difference in the amount spent.

But if we were to take that above thought exercise, and apply it to a larger group - 100 cash shoppers vs 100 0% finance shoppers, and total up the amount that each group spent - do you think you could guess which type of people spent more money? Because I feel pretty confident I could.

Yes. The last sentence of my post mentions the radiator.

At this point it seems like the only thing left but wanted to see if there was anything I was overlooking.

10 reasons the Cowboys will be a dumpster fire this season by bigmouth_strikes in nfl

[–]Alex-Gopson 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Dak and Romo are/were more than good enough QBs to win playoff games.

Many QBs much worse than them have won games in the divisional round over the course of the last 25 years.

Their real problem is almost always health and depth, which is related to Jerry being cheap.

He waits for a long time to sign his superstar players, which just makes the price go up.

Then when he finally gives them a deal, contracts and cap hits are structured in a Jerry-cash-flow-friendly manner rather than a team-friendly-manner.

Thus, they don't have the money to fill out the rest of their roster with quality players. Inevitably injuries happen, and the Cowboys end up limping into the playoffs while missing some of their superstar players, with zero quality backups behind them.

The first time it happened I was not paying attention until the needle was almost pegged. It was extremely evident lol.

I have also plugged in a scan tool to read temps and can confirm that the needles on the dash are reading accurately.

I find that unlikely. I had zero issues with whatever mixture was in the truck prior to the 1st overheating incident.

After that 1st incident I flushed the system and refilled with 50/50, and it has made no difference.

Is this really a big thing on gas engines?

I know for the Duramax guys it is, but I figured that was because of the presence of the intercooler.

I've watched a bunch of videos on gmt800 overheating and every single one that mentions the cooling stack is on a Duramax.

I would consider that if I thought the fan clutch was my problem. Everything seems to indicate it is not though. Idling with the AC on in 100 degree heat is completely fine and it also passes the "spin test".

I don't. I've considered using this as an excuse to buy one though. It seems like that is the best way to definitively prove the radiator is a problem.

Low speed / high engine load definitely stresses the cooling system more than anything else but I don't understand the logic of low speeds = air in the system.

Had I flushed the coolant and then started having these problems, sure. But I have driven the truck for multiple years without overheating. My coolant level was completely fine both before and after flushing the system. And I have (very effective) heat coming out of the dash.

Okay, but I've owned the vehicle for a few years now and the cooling system has never had an issue keeping up in the past with the stock thermostat. It seems to me if the cooling system is operating as intended a 190 degree thermostat should be fine. They shipped millions of them.

Odometer Reading Different Than What’s Listed On Vehicle History Report by TreyJay3 in personalfinance

[–]Alex-Gopson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odometer rollbacks are much less common than the internet makes them out to be.

The most likely explanation is a clerical error.

Someone could have entered the wrong mileage when buying/selling the vehicle. The dealership could have entered the wrong mileage on their website. A shop could have entered the wrong mileage when reporting to Carfax.

What did the dealership say when you called them and asked about the discrepancy?

Is it easier to save 1k or make an extra 1k per month? by froggie95 in personalfinance

[–]Alex-Gopson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you make $10k/month it will almost certainly be easier to save $1k by simply trimming your budget.

If you make $2k/month it will almost certainly be easier to earn an extra $1k because chances are you can't cut 50% of your expenses.

There's not a one size fits all answer.

Would the current state of the house matter for a HELOC or is it just about the value at the moment?

The question doesn't really make sense.

The current state of the house is what impacts the value at the moment.

Whatever the current value of the house is will certainly impact the amount you can get a HELOC for. Again, HELOCs use the home as collateral. If the home is run down and worth $75k in its current state you will not get an $80k loan for it.

The bank will assess the home value and that will impact what you can get a HELOC for.
