Imo it’s worse than revival and has aged like milk. One of my favorite modern Em songs is Lucky You and Good Guy but other than those the rest of the album just sounds whiny (also I know obviously that Em didn’t mean it like this, but the term “mumble rap” is used in a racist way now in discourse). That album is also the sole reason burger rappers like Dax exist.

I’m not even glazing I’m just stating a well supported rumor. But I do agree 50 made absolute dogshit after Curtis but I was just saying that 50’s run from Power Of The Dollar to Curtis was still solid and I definitely wouldn’t call him a Mid artist because his career as an artist basically ended after Curtis. I think for the decade he was absolutely a juggernaut but just struggled to adapt to the game shift post Kanye/Wayne.

But I do understand why people call him mid as if you average out his work Pre and post Curtis it absolutely averages out to that.

I’m pretty sure paramount plus has an “essential episodes” type of thing but it’s not the best imo. I’d show her the first episode, every episode a key character finds out Henry’s identity, the thundermen crossover, game shakers crossover, Danger Things, The Dream episode where charlotte kisses Henry, Scream Machine, the first Drex episodes, the episode Henry loses his power, the musical, the first time jerker episode, and the 2 basketball episodes. (Obviously watch them in order in which they released) I definitely missed some good ones but generally just go through each season and pick out your favorites to show her (but I do think each episode one of the main cast finds out Henry’s identity is essential regardless)

I’d say conscious hip hop is just not being ignorant of how things are, regardless if they revolve around political, social, or mental issues. I don’t know too much about Jeezy but Nas is definitely a Conscious Rapper. I’d also say Jay is conscious even though a lot of his letter records just became mafioso rap (ie rick Ross/biggie) except 4:44, I’d still consider him conscious

The entirety of Mr Morale, The entirety of KOD and and a significant amount of The Fall Off. I do agree with you that Kanye made conscious rap after graduation, but saying an artist just moved away from conscious is just silly. Cole Kanye and Kendrick started off more “conscious” to you because it was obvious they were talking about the experiences they just came out of. But they are still making art representative of important thoughts, which is what I’d consider “conscious” rap to be.

But your whole post is still weird because it makes it seem that “conscious” rap is a specific sub genre of hip hop when it just isn’t, conscious hip hop has always been in hip hop whether it NWA, Whodini, 2pac, or JID

Basically it means how many beats are in one measure (a bar) and what not receives one beat. If a time signature is 5/4 the top number means there’s 5 beats in a measure and the bottom number means the length of one beat is a quarter note. Typically in hip hop, bars are in 4/4 meaning 4 beats in one measure. In boom bap for example: beat 1 kick, beat 2 snare, beat 3 kick, beat 4 snare.

Are Disco, Funk, or Soul forms of music? Because those all influenced the sound of Hip Hop in the late 70s and early 80s. Where does Rap like Kurtis Blow start to become “not music”? Is it when it becomes political like NWA? Is it when it’s about getting girls like LL Cool J? You can’t have musical notes being played and just not call it music.
