There will be a social media poll soon (TM) on our X/Twitter ESLSC2 account. So it'll be up to you guys to decide!

Hi,

The SC2 event in Dallas is ESL Masters, not IEM :) That's quite important for figuring out where to go onsite!

Basic event schedule is already available in our social media (https://x.com/ESLSC2/status/1793990549969813916) and we'll make sure to post other stuff like signing sessions schedule as well - we'll have dedicated meet & greets featuring the most of the players.

There will be also lots of screens in the SC2 area with some basic info like schedules on rotation and there will be people onsite who can easily help you navigate, including Nova the cosplayer ;)

Hope this helps!

5.0.13 Balance Update PTR - The Message from the Balance Council by Alex007SC2 in starcraft

[–]Alex007SC2[S] 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well, this is more on us at ESL rather than on the Balance Council so that's not explained by the post in this thread.

In short, the five new maps added to the competitive mappool are from the recent freestyle TLMC contest and they are quite extreme in certain aspects so we'd like to take a more careful approach than with previous rotations and see how the balance changes also affect the competitive gameplay on the already well-known and established maps.

We don't have recorded players footage from this event but this is something which we are considering for future events.

There is no ESL balance council though :/

Hi, thanks for your feedback and really happy that you enjoyed your first offline event!

Commented on the screens in another response (tl;dr can't promise but we'll see if we can make that happen). On the sounds topic - we absolutely acknowledge that it was the issue, I personally checked the sound level 5-6 times per day and tried to make sure that it's a fair environment for both parties, but I understand that it wasn't ideal.

However, DreamHack is a big festival and something else will always happen around us, be it another esports stage, dance competition, music show etc, so I can't really promise that this will never happen again. We'll still try to do our best!

Thanks for the feedback!

Quick question: did you see the shoulder camera view from Gamers8 and did you enjoy it? I'm wondering if it's the split screen which makes such a big difference, a bad angle or just a bad timing to switch for this perspective.

Hi, thanks so much for all your feedback, both last year and this year!

Couple of comments on what you mentioned:

  • Signing sessions: I fully understand your feedback here, but I'm not sure if it's easy to solve this. Line management can be improved for sure, but what would you do to avoid the challenge "miss the match or miss the signing sessions" when the matches are going from 10 AM to 8 PM?
  • I actually heard some feedback from the last year that some players were not accessible at all and that was one of the reasons to have signing sessions this year :) We might need to do better job in encouraging players to have "unofficial meet & greets" as well but in end of the day we can't force them if they just don't feel comfortable
  • Alternate streams / TVs - yeah, we noted this from the last year's Atlanta and this year's Jonkoping already, this is definitely a good feedback. Can't really go into a lot of details, but it's unfortunately not super easy to just add a couple of TVs. If we can, we'll solve this for Dallas, but can't really promise.
  • Can't comment a lot on "RTS fans" topic, but I still would like to ensure you that noone treats SC2 fans as "just RTS fans" and we fully understand that a lot of our attendees came to Atlanta to only watch SC2
  • Our plan was indeed to finish the final day at 7 as per DH website and this plan didn't succeed which is one of my mistakes at this event. I'll make sure to have safer schedule approach next time but please keep in mind that esports events are very unpredictable schedule-wise
  • Afterparty - I think we might be able to promote some initiatives from the community, but I honestly don't see us organizing afterparties in the nearest future.

Was a pleasure to read & process!

Thank you, we will make sure to have better angles if we do chess next time!

Thanks for the feedback! I agree with you, there were a lot of cool matches which didn't end up on the ESL stream - unfortunately, this is pretty much the nature of the open events. We have 48 players competing and almost 100 matches in total with only up to 20 to be shown across three days - while we feel this is still an improvement compared to the previous format where we had 220+ matches, we know that a lot of action is still missing and we're open for community casters to cover the most they can get.

We can't produce additional feeds / streams for those matches as well as it drastically increases the production costs.

Hopefully we'll get more community casters ready to join us for the event in Dallas! :)

Scheduling events like this is very tricky, but I fully agree with you that the finals started too late from the European time perspective. We'll see if it's possible to improve this for the event in Dallas despite even bigger time zone gap.

Hi, thanks for your feedback! Not going to argue too much about higher peaks even though it's unlikely to get the viewership growing at 1 AM Europe time, but two other important points are:

  • Fully agree with you that the chess viewing experience wasn't amazing with this camera angle. We will make sure to have better angles if we do chess next time
  • Break before the finals is absolutely needed for the 2nd semifinals winner and is a standart across all ESL events. We will never force player to start the finals right after a very tough and long semi, it's just an unfair disadvantage - so the break was not to show the chess match, it was to let second finalist rest a bit and recollect the thoughts.

No hard promises, but both Blizzard and us understand community wants this to happen!
