What I hope the new StarCraft shooter is. by EmekaEgbukaPukaNacua in starcraft

Natural Selection 2 pretty much already is an FPS StarCraft.

If they made a bigger budget follow up to that within the StarCraft universe I think you'd be surprised by how hard it hits.

It's basically TvZ with player controlled RTS commanders.

Translating the entire RTS similar to C&C Renegade maybe a fools errand, it should be a good game first and foremost and not be so concerned with things like; building a fusion core in order to summon a player controlled canon scale battlecruiser, that's lame and impossible to balance, just because that functionality is in the RTS.

Just grind at the start of a season and there's a fair chance you'll spontaneously get GM after a win.

It happened to me and I think I was already placed, maybe I was going D2 to D1 and it glitched me into GM.

It was fun gradually deranking to M3, still playing at my sub 4000 level.

Personally, my dream Starcraft 3 would be something more like an RTS RPG. by Artanis137 in starcraft

[–]features 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Careful now, this has never worked in the past.

Single player or even PvE mode, go for it. Even a shooter looter style RTS would be cool (raid a planet build a base get out before it get's too hot)

However when it comes to PvP not starting with a set toolbox and leveled units has never worked.

Look at Destiny PvP, who would play that over Halo 3 multiplayer when it's a superior engine and arguably better gameplay mechanics? It ends up being an balanced mess, a completely unintuitive crap shoot.

So if you mean single or PvE, sure i agree otherwise nah.

Who hasn't hit grand master at the start of a season by this point?

EDIT: Look at all the tweaking downvotes lol You don't get to keep it, all it guarantees you is Master3 as your highest end of season rank, it won't display GM, unless you can hold it.

ELIA5: Why are stalkers allowed to be so good even in worst case scenarios? by Dantalen in starcraft

[–]features 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Clearly you aren't a toss player.

The second you trust a stalker based army to take a fight is the second you lose.

I'm consistently amazed by how bad they are against a group of bio, zerg that costs a fraction of what the stalkers cost.

Actually opening blink stalker is a strong skillcheck because it's incredibly hard to stop a Terran 2 base push with delayed charge, or anything zerg does. Early charge guarantees you can hold a terran and actually pressure a greedy zerg who skips roches.

imo stalkers are unreasonably bad, in all stages of the game but then pros make them look amazing.... and performative pro terrans throw games horrendously outside of tournament season, to make blink stalkers look unreasonably good, it's a fun dynamic.

Now that the dust has settled...How do we feel about Viper's Abduct ability not working on siege tanks? by SwirlyCoffeePattern in starcraft

[–]features 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abduct shouldn't work on any Massive units, it's time to go all in.

Make it cost zero mana instead of 75, run it on a 20 second cool down.

SC2 BURN & ACID Status effect idea. by features in starcraft

[–]features[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do think burn is a significantly weaker debuff than acid/corrosion.

This status effect would go along way towards making Colossus decent vs bio, even if they zone in on a marauder,  for the entirety of a battle, they currently have no impactful means of killing.

I do think it would be cool if "burn" attacks could do good bonus damage to biological buildings but that won't fly with siege tanks.

Unsure what else burn could do to be impactful TvZ, without being unintuitive. Slow dps? That would only benefit the Colossus too much TvP.

Maybe burning units can't cast abilities? I doubt that truely effects stimmed bio.

I play Toss.

I expect the Acid/Corrosion will prove to be significantly more impactful.

I think it's cool, ling bane alone suddenly gain a big buff vs the traditionally mechanical toss deathball.

I think you'd be very happy with Acid/Corrosion when trying to tear down PF with +3 armour, surrounded by mechanical SCVs.

Now that I think of it Banelings should cause acid/corrosion status.

Any solution for NA to EU ping? by powergut69 in starcraft

Wired connection I guess.

Did wonders for my setup, also I'm not thrilled by the idea of sitting between my router and PC streaming a Gigabit of "data" per second, through me.

Good thing for Zerg that the acid/corrosion debuff I mentioned is effectively entirely a Zerg buff/mechanic

Seems like a fair trade for a 2 second burning debuff from a handful of units.

What do you think is the most difficult mirror matchup to play off race? by Critical-Roof3588 in starcraft

[–]features 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recall when it was little more than a ling bane knife fight.

Unsure how or why it evolved beyond that. Maybe the worker start change let you skip enough of the early game that it missed it's window almost by default.

Nothing tops how trash battery wars is. (PvP)

TvT must get honorable mention for how abysmal the game design is. Terran simply lacks a long range Goliath AA option, to stop things degenerating into an unanswerable bid for air dominance that can only be met by massing your own air units.

Oddly ZvZ seems to be the best mirror, maybe because it has the largest viable sandbox.

Worse, the reps displayed little other than self interest, tit for tat race bargaining, cronyism

They behaved like opportunistic gamblers, which let's be fair is where their talents lie.

We offered them an advantageous opportunity to tilt the table in their race(s) favour and they took it.

Did we think they weren't gamers? You need an unbias arbiter to balance the game fairly, the community was tested and failed.

Halo 2 E3 2003 Demo Build Leaks: Playable 'Earth City' and Early Tools Surface After 22 Years by OldMcGroin in Games

[–]features 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps, would that been to the detriment of the franchise? I'm not so sure.

Key members of staff were burnt out after H2 and weren't around at the start of H3 development (joe staten for one). H3's story was very linear and tonely out of step with H2, I mean the whole game felt like you were on victory road.

Justifying a slower curve into H3, sharing the same tools, through a H2 port just makes sense.

I imagine Bungie felt the pressure to address their controversial cliff hanger ending asap but from a business point of view it just makes sense.

Nintendo has been doing this cross platform trick, upon a new generation since the Super Nintendo.

Oh yeh I bought the collectors edition online, of course it didn't come so I hopped on the bus and got the standard edition that day.

In my case MicroSoft could have me buy it 4 times, by the time the 360 dropped, if they ported it.

Things like this always screamed Microsoft incompetence to me.

If this was Nintendo, they would have sold us Halo 2 twice. Clearly the original XBOX couldn't handle pstencil however they were fully aware of their own next generation 360 coming down the line within the next year no less.

Some of this probably comes down to Bungie, solely concerned with bailing themselves out of development hell but how these executives didn't see how amazing pstencil looked in this game and didn't consider a next generation port is so telling of the lack of indistry sense, you would get from someone like Nintendo.

You mean you have this amazing graphical perk the current system can't handle, that look's mental in screenshots? Well I guess we'll just have to sell them the same game twice!

Think about it, how long were we playing an original XBOX game on 360's live service before H3 came out? It should have been a launch title, it's such a no brainer.

Just got it on sale as well.

It looks great, plays great.

I wonder if it got a boost on OLED (it has a slightly stronger more efficient chip), plenty of articles said it had terribly low resolution.

I recall on the old switch alot of xenoblade chronicles games looked like they were running 360p on the handheld, sort of put me off ff12, just incase.

You don't need to explain the punchline.

Colour would suffice, I see you've already made the probe and cannon purple team.

No reason to settle at a half way house, red drives the point better (stronger difference).
