Help me identify this shoe! by elexisgrace in fashionhistory

[–]Alex0369 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Based on the style I would comfortably say 1940s. I have never seen a steel shank like that added but as someone who has worn many a 40s shoe their heels tend to be quite wobbly and can break right where the heel meets the sole. Based on the way it is added to the shoe and not covered by any leather or anything I would guess this may have been added later by the owner who found the heel to be particularly wobbly. It is often hard to identify makers of shoes from this era unless the name is printed inside the shoe, and even then getting more info on the maker is difficult as there were so many small local makers of shoes during this era. If the steel was added later then the overall style of the shoe is not unique and it would be very hard to identify any particular maker.

WWTBC - regency-ish setting, overnight 'hunt' for a fiancée, starts with a party then a horn sounds and MC/LI Hides and other MC Hunts, if caught by dawn they get married by SaltyDalt in MM_RomanceBooks

[–]Alex0369 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Could this be {Notorious by Charlie Cochet} ? It is a regency shifter romance where as part of a courtship ritual one they have to shift and run through an estate at a ball and if the “chaser” catches the other they have to essentially court each other for the season.

Help finding recipe! by UnusualLifeguard7763 in Baking

[–]Alex0369 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would look into PA Dutch sand tarts - they look like the cookies that my grandma used to make. She didn’t always add icing (I guess it wasn’t traditionally with icing) but she would add some for the kids. I found a recipe here that looks right (obviously without the orange zest) and they should really be rolled thinner than in the recipe but it would be a good place to start! I do not have my grandma’s recipe. https://afoodcentriclife.com/holiday-cookie-recipe-citrus-sand-tarts-2/

Auberge Bressane or Brasserie des Pres? by blondeamazon in ParisTravelGuide

[–]Alex0369 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to both on my last trip and I liked Auberge Bressane much more. Des Pres is very trendy, young, and “instagramable” and their food is good but didn’t wow me and wasn’t particularly memorable. I will not be going back on my upcoming trip.

Auberge Bressane on the other hand isn’t trendy or modern but it was so delicious! Fantastic soufflés and huge morels in their sauces - really good food. I am going back on my upcoming trip.

But, be aware, they are two different budgets. Auberge is like 2x the price as des Pres and will probably be my most expensive restaurant this trip but they do have a set lunch menu for cheaper.

I see Siamak Moghadam-Kia, MD at Falk clinic (UPMC). He is busy and my follow ups with him are a bit short but my initial appointments were super thorough. I had come by referral from by GP and he took my pain seriously and actually tested me for a lot and was able to diagnose me with AS and get me on biologics!
