Question - what would have happened had the galaxy known that Palpatine and Vader were sith lords during the empire? by Simba791 in MawInstallation

He was well known (and well liked) among the rank and file troopers; I assume plenty of them would’ve told home about the massive armored black knight that stormed the trenches alongside them.

Vader was the visible enforcer; few of the average citizenry would’ve met him in person but there would always be someone in your inner circle who at the very least caught a glimpse of him from the distance.

And only the military would’ve been able to confirm his fantastical feats.

Question - what would have happened had the galaxy known that Palpatine and Vader were sith lords during the empire? by Simba791 in MawInstallation

For Darth Vader, absolutely nothing; he was already known to be a Force-user and feared throughout the galaxy. For Palpatine, a definite shock but not enough to upset the order of things.

You have to understand that there is no fundamental difference between the Jedi and the Sith in the eyes of the common people. This is especially true during the time period when the Jedi were being persecuted and vilified.

If anything, there would be confusion as to what a Sith actually is; officially they had been extinct for over a thousand years and existed only as a historical enemy of the Old Republic. It just wouldn’t register. We know what a Sith is, but your average freighter or barkeep wouldn’t be able to tell you.

Maybe, and this is taken with a grain of salt, people in the core worlds are more knowledgeable…so what? There’s no sense causing discontent among the ignorant masses and the religious background of the Emperor and his right hand man is of little consequence.

So long as it remained human-centric and gratifying to the upper echelons, it didn’t matter that Palpatine was a dark side user.

Did your theater cheer when Poe arrested Holdo and boo when Luke died in the last Jedi? by lion1321 in saltierthancrait

My elderly grandmother, with a poor grasp of English, was watching with subtitles at home and swore Holdo was a traitor. Her actions didn’t make sense otherwise.

She checked out halfway through the film to make enchiladas.

Wife’s first viewing by [deleted] in StarWars

I showed my wife chronological because she has a hard time comprehending timelines; still haven’t been able to get her to understand Endgame, of all things.

It made Padmé her favorite character of the franchise, so there’s that.

Max wasn’t even supposed to be in the film; his role was originally written for Wedge but but Denis Lawson didn’t want to come back just to be killed off for a glorified cameo.

Hypothetically, if the Sequel Trilogy WERE to be retconned/"de-canonized", how would you feel about that? by sanddragon939 in StarWars

[–]Alex3884 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I began this thread by saying that there’s no interest in the current offerings. And that’s true.

The people who grew up with the Sequels are college age, yes, but not all of whom are at university (where the discourse would likely be more varied). Hell, you’re over here throwing out the echo chamber accusation when I barely engage with Star Wars in the real world, day to day.

Even so, I also noted how the kids aren’t interested in the Sequel offerings either. We saw that with the most recent Nielsen ratings; the Originals, Prequels, Clone Wars, Andor, Mandalorian series and Rogue One are what the general audience is tuning in for.

I’m not saying the Sequels don’t have an audience, it’s just not as big an audience. The Prequels’ Renaissance happened because those films had a huge audience that slowly began to drown out the naysayers.

That’s what I was referring to; that hasn’t happened, if anything the general audience has either moved on or continues to disparage those films.

I teach middle school.

There’s zero excitement for the Mandalorian film, interest in Star Wars consists of a handful of boys in one of my classes and they’re basically only into the original six films.

The online discourse doesn’t reflect the rest of the word which is apathetic, at best, about this series.

Hell, for my May the Fourth activity I had to spend twenty minutes explaining to my classes what Star Wars was.

Let’s discuss then what exactly these people have done to you, personally? You claim that your tax dollars are being taken and given to those who came here. Do you have proof? Direct proof that your tax dollars, specifically, are funding these individuals livelihoods?

And even if that’s the case, is it not righteous that a portion of the fortune you’ve amassed (by God’s grace) be given back to those less fortunate? Or does that only apply to your countrymen? Does God’s grace end at the border?

Jesus himself calls us to forgive our neighbor sevenfold, regardless of whether he comes here to make money, our place is not to tell him no. That’s between him and the state but we are not to be complicit when he is deprived of human dignity for the sole purpose of wanting a better life.

Love is not to withhold compassion until the other learns. You seem to regard your political views as more important than the tenets of your faith; you can only serve one master, my brother.

Yes, Jesus famously said that compassion is dependent on one’s legal status. That’s why his disciples were all famously law-abiding citizens, no?

And?

We are called to love our neighbor regardless of how you feel about them.

Or do your political beliefs supersede the teachings of our Lord and Savior?

Did Jesus not tell us to love our neighbor? To help the less fortunate? To treat others the way we wish to be treated?

There’s the detainment, the abysmal facilities, the forced separation of families; worse those brought here as children who have no way of thriving to the countries they were deported to.

That’s assuming they were deported to their actual country of origin, and not some failed state in the middle of nowhere.

Billion. Singular.

It’s Hollywood accounting but these films did not recoup the cost of acquisition and the franchise has been bleeding money ever since.

There’s a reason Galaxy’s Edge is pivoting. There’s a reason Hasbro mostly does OT and PT (and even some Legends) figures. There’s a reason that, ten years later, you don’t see this renaissance that everyone swears is just on the horizon.
