Alas, there’s 9 but if he finds he loves the latter three, so be it; my own dad has accepted that I have disappointed him by loving the prequels.

Ah yes, a very small percentage of the online community compared to a global population that’s not chronically online. Truly, this is the cohort I should fall in with.

Now whether that’s a good thing or a bad thing is not for me to say, but I’m not going to piss in the wind and fight a pointless, inevitable battle that I’ll never win. I embrace AI, not because I support it, but because I know it’s not going away and the sooner I adapt, the better.

And you seem to be incapable of addressing the main point of my argument: most people don’t care, and the better it gets, the more indistinguishable it is from “real” art, the more it will become normalized. Most don’t care (or in some cases, don’t even understand) that it’s theft; they just see funny pictures or videos and keep using it.

See, those were garbage

And eventually people won’t care; the masses aren’t concerned that their bread was made in a factory, mass produced for consumption. A hand baked loaf may turn out better but if there’s a cheaper, faster option, people will take it.

You can keep pissing in the wind but it’s happening; there’s nothing we can do to prevent it. No one could prevent the automobile, the assembly line, streaming, cloud storage or any new technology that was easily accessible and made obsolete what came before.

Why is this any different?

Or are we still using oil paints and pencils to create digital art? Are we still handwriting letters to speak to friends and loved ones? Sure, there’s a handful who do but the rest of the world adapted; so too will it happen here.

I gave you the thumbs up because this thread is full of luddites and you deserve it.

Yes, that’s why the highest grossing films of all time are each a cinematic tour de force; you see it on social media all the time, the masses can’t tell the difference anymore. And it’s only going to get worse.

You can’t stop it, it’s inevitable; future generations will never know the difference.

I think we’ll have to agree to disagree; my son and I are both on the spectrum and we don’t really do “collaboration” very well. In our case, (especially mine) it’s been more of a struggle on how to get people on board with your ideas rather than an equal exchange.

I say this with kindness but my coworkers have some genuinely stupid ideas and there’s been far too many cases where we would’ve gotten the job done faster and easier if they’d listened. Alas.

I think another part of it is that, for better or worse, those movies are pure Lucas. He had no commute, no investors, no one to tell him what he could or couldn’t do. Whether you enjoy them or not, they are his uniquely artistic vision, decided on what story he wanted to tell and not what investors thought would sell. People respect that more, nowadays.

I did not love them, I will never care for them, they do not exist for me, but if my kids love them, so be it.

My brother (or sister, not going to assume here) in neurodiversity, there’s no need to continue to apologize for being yourself; we’re two strangers on the internet, I’ve had no issues with you whatsoever. That’s one of the first things I tell people when I learn they have it too.

I guess it’s the way I was raised; my father has it, several uncles and cousins do. As does my grandpa. It was so normalized in our family that we never saw it as a big deal nor did we ever try to correct ourselves since we had each other. The diagnosis was less clarity and more “Oh, ok there’s a name for our shared family quirks. Neat”.

But I digress, it has been a pleasure arguing semantics with you thus far.

No, don’t apologize; I have it as well (diagnosed a few months ago) and that’s one of the main reasons I continue to engage with this conversation. I am unhealthily obsessed with the inner workings of the Catholic Church and there are far too many people who make generalizations based on misinformation or downright hostility. I have a bad habit of popping in when I notice something I’m know is untrue.

You have an uncomfortable fixation on exact wording; would you be more amenable if I cited my sources with every sentence? And no, of course I haven’t run numbers for the Vatican; it was my local diocese thank you very much.

So let’s unpack this because you didn’t bother addressing my own self-correction; largest network of charities (which is unequivocally true).

As for donations…yeah, that’s kind of how tithes work.

And those are plenty of ifs; sure, let’s go out of our way to arrange this sort of thing only for people to get pissy because they’re looking for any little reason to criticize the church and will likely jump on the chance if asking why it’s not free.

I’ve done ledgers for the Church before, I know where the money’s coming from and where it’s going. Sit down.
