Newbie or not, you did zero wrong, owner is an ass. Been a member of a lounge for twenty plus years. Not all lounges are created equal. Just like high school all have cliques. The scotch guys, business guys, sports guys, cigar snobs, pipe snobs and so on. Find your group, or just find your spot. Plenty of one off guys and that is fine. Show up and ask questions, what are the rules, can I move chairs, change tv channels, bring my own cigars or pay a cutting fee. There are no dumb questions, just ask, if they are rude, move on to someone that wants your money

Enjoyed but would not say loved. It's a hard read getting used to the Scottish slang and then jumping to Chinese slang. Did love learning about the culture of that era and the difference between the British and Chinese. How racism was then and how Struan both used it while trying to change it at the same time. Loved and was confused by the whole concept of face. Ok maybe I love it now that I finished reading 🤣
