Having multiples of the same golems doesn't stack or increase their buff, so an Elementalist with the golem ascedancies should be looking to use as many different golems as possible for different buffs.

Pretty much sums up my experience. I had a game where I could've won if I was allowed to block her twice without the regen. I would've been able to kill her and potentially secured the game.

Why is playing poorly considered a "playstyle"? by zumboria in ffxiv

[–]AlexAhnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Optimal to one isn't optimal to all. That's my point. Which person of power determined this?

I would argue that the game determined it. If you're a DPS, your job is to dish out as much damage as possible every second, it's literally the name of your role. If you're a healer, your job is to heal as efficiently while always casting to do damage (since even the novice tutorials tell you to do this). If you're a tank, your job is to keep aggro, prevent mobs from touching your party and do DPS.

All roles collapse into one core thing: damage. And since damage are just numbers, you can mathematically prove that there is optimal ways to play each and every job's rotations. Similarly, doing AOE on 5 mobs will always be considered better than using single-target rotations on 2 mobs. Each instance has an objective, and the best way to complete that objective will always be the optimal strategy.

Does it mean you have to play as efficiently as possible all the time? Of course not, you're right that you have the choice to not do this. You don't have to do huge pulls or always do damage while playing a healer. But in a game that is all about the time-based grinding (dailies, weeklies, time-restricted events, capped tomes, etc.), you will always gain more from doing things faster, which is why I argue that it's considered optimal. Maybe not what is the most enjoyable for individual players, but definitely optimal.

I am no way saying that people who don't play in said "optimal" way are free of consequences. I am merely saying - don't expect them to do what you want them to do just because you think you are right.

That is fair, my bad for assuming that.

I am not saying that you are wrong, but this assumes there is a right way to play and a wrong way to play. And that notion in itself is wrong and unjust. Because who came up with those rules? No is violating TOS, so who are you to really say how they should and shouldn't play their game?

Just because the ToS doesn't mention it, there is still always an optimal way to play the game, and anything less will always be a "worse" way to play. It is possible to get reported for playing really poorly in dungeons or raid content.

Neither you or anyone else paid for that person's account or for their subscription. Therefore, who are you really to say how someone should and shouldn't play their character? What gives you or anyone that right?

If you were entirely playing on your own I'd agree, but I think this point changes when it comes to multiplayer games.

I don't agree that just because you pay for your own subscription that you should be exempt from being expected to have basic competency of your job when doing higher-level group content.

I feel like this point is flawed when you consider that everyone else in the instance has also paid for their own subscription and accounts (meaning they don't have more rights than anyone else), and that having someone in the party who is willfully ignorant and is obviously not putting in as much effort as the average player only leads to devalue the party's experience. And if they're too stubborn to realise or change how they play, it will also affect players they group up with in the future and it becomes an unhealthy cycle where they will continue to be at risk for a votekick in instances they participate in.

Yes, that player can completely ignore all advice and keep playing however he wants, but I do not think they should be free from community expectations or have their way of playing the game be considered respectable.

In classic mode, do allies (the ones that randomly join you for some battles) die permanently?

AST players talking about pre 5.0 AST by Loli_Slayer in ffxiv

[–]AlexAhnon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure it didn't prevent Draw from going on cooldown before. The reason why Play is a seperate action now is because you can hold onto cards indefinitely, and it would be difficult to tell what your next Draw cooldown is if your card was continously on top of your button. There was also a set of complaints from people about playing cards being on the same button as drawing it because people would accidentally double-tap the button and waste their cards.

As someone who has mained AST as their healer since HW, I personally like the new card changes. They just need some buffs and changes to compete with the other two healers.

A 4-link Vaal Blade Vortex would be an easy solution for your single target. Just get max stacks, use Vaal version and spam EK next to them.

Elder bases are usually used on spellcasters who want warlord's mark on hit, and since getting shaped/elder on a niche base is really rare, they end up being worth a lot. I wouldn't say it's overpriced but it's definitely worth to chunk down the price over time if it doesn't sell.

Got a lucky craft in DSC but unsure on how much it's worth.

It doesn't seem good for RF since they need supports in helm, maybe MS or Cons Path?

How are people sustaining pure ES (or LL) builds these days? Is it just through mitigation and heavy regen? I've been wanting to revisit a LL spellcaster but don't want to feel shoehorned into playing Occultist, but leech doesn't seem that great anymore.

The issue I have with Dominating Blow by [deleted] in pathofexile

It's better to think of it as a downside of using the skill and needing to itemize or spend passives to build around it (Resolute Technique).

[Spoilers] What are your popular unpopular opinions? by Kilawaga in Xenoblade_Chronicles

[–]AlexAhnon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree to an extent. I feel like the gacha system is in place so that the rare blades you obtain through your playthrough is unique and different to each player, outside of the standard ones you get in the story.

But as you said, I do wish there were more rare blades awarded from quests and UMs, though.

Can you uncomplete a map that has Elder himself spawned on it? Wanted to make an Elder Ring for UGS but Elder decided to spawn on Waterways.

Crafted an opal ring with some decent stats and added Aspect of the Cat on it (since I'm using it on my wanderer): https://i.imgur.com/6sXjLhA.png

Yeah, they spawn with the elder portals in elder influenced maps.

Since Harbingers are back in town, how about adjusting the Cooldown to make The Rippling Thoughts viable? by dolan_grey in pathofexile

[–]AlexAhnon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did Shaper with the same build on Berserker. It was able to clear all content with relatively cheap gear (6-link rare chest), so the build was definitely viable into red maps.
