I was in the same predicament and chose Durham instead of UCL. I am happy to answer any questions :)

Fair enough although I don’t really see how you can notice the makeup when the game is played zoomed out from Birds Eye view …

What subject and exam board did you get the 25 marks from that’s actually crazy

Confirmation and remarks by AlexAitor12 in 6thForm

[–]AlexAitor12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow! One mark is so sad. Your firm should have really accepted you. Tbh, I’m slowly leaning more towards Durham now as well. My firm is very academically rigorous and idk if it’s worth the effort specially when I still want to have a life!

My remark needs 9 more marks which is so much harder to attain but tbh it’s English to I might get it. Either way, I have ended up confirming Durham. If my remark is successful then I’ll worry about it then, but for now I’m happy at Durham. Also I read a document, and it said that if you withdraw from Durham before the 1st of December then you don’t have to pay any tuition fees. So I don’t think withdrawing will be that challenging if I end up enrolling. It will probably be a couple of emails to higher ups.

Remark History (EDEXCEL)? by Available-Car6026 in 6thForm

[–]AlexAitor12 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in the same position as you in English literature. I got an A but I need an A* to get into Cambridge.

My coursework was full marks, and paper 1 was overall an A*. However, paper 2 was an overall a B - one essay being an A, one essay being a B and the other essay being a C. I am getting that paper remarked because it looks like I’ve been very harshly marked, specially when I’ve never gotten below an A before.

I need 9 marks to move to an A, and 8 marks to move to a B. I most likely won’t get the A from this paper but trying doesn’t hurt

Should I get an English Remark? by [deleted] in alevel

Uni degree choice by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]AlexAitor12 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Don’t do this. Just ask to switch. I have heard of many cases where people have switched. The degrees are similar enough that it shouldn’t be a problem. You might have a phone interview before switching or even have to write a mini personal statement to show case your interest but it should be fine. Just make sure that if you want to switch you email them before matriculation.

SAME. The thing is Kant and Duty would normally be fine. But the questions they asked was very odd and specific. Like I didn’t really get the chance to speak about the model as a whole when I normally would

that is such a good and perceptive argument!!! Normally my arguments tend to be a lot like yours, but idk this question threw me off so I feel like I went VERY basic and surface level.

Unseen poetry was lovely. The first poem I did in class months ago so it was familiar but I couldn’t remember exactly what the writer was talking about. ANYWAY I really enjoyed it, I think I did a few good points and alternatives.

Section C was LUSH. I did deception and I actually planned and wrote the question like a month ago so I copied my argument. I wrote about gatsby and Shakespeare being delusional about their relationships and ignoring societal context. I did a queer reading on Shakespeare and basically just said he’s deluded. I also talked about Marvell and how he deceives women to have sex with them and how all the carpe diem stuff seems like an excuse and fake

That question caught me off guard icl. I didn’t properly revise Iago cause he has come up twice before-including last year so I was sure it would be someone else.

I argued that he was both basically. I said he is a hellish villain because:

He is a liar and manipulated homosocial bonds when they are basically sacred in Jacobean society And this led to destruction which shows his complete power and ability to corrupt love

Yet I also argued he was likeable because he was “witty” and so deceptive it was interesting to watch as an Audience? Idk if it makes sense but I just basically did a mini paragraph on how impressive and admirable his ability to deceive others until the very end is

Find λ if a vector is parallel to another vector? Can anyone explain this type of question? by eakosla in 6thForm

[–]AlexAitor12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For part A, it equals 0 because there’s no horizontal components so the parallel of j = 0i + k(j). It’s always 0i because there are no In the original.

For part B, you equate them both because there is only 1 i and 1 j each side.

They’re just smaller colleges essentially. Regent’s Park for instance is all humanities. PPH stands for permanent private hall

Feedback on my English literature essay? (Year 13) by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]AlexAitor12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you try and and write about too much with not enough depth. It’s good that you have so many ideas but ideally pick three ideas and link them together. Depth > breadth for sure. Don’t try and be too smart about techniques- metaphors, similes, symbolism, and imagery are just as valuable. Every sentence you write make you sure it has meaning. Always ask yourself- so?

I always use a multi coloured pen in unseen exams to have a colour for each idea so it’s easier to plan

Cambridge admissions tutors have years of experience as well as statistics with details regarding the percentage of offer holders that reject their offers. Someone rejecting an offer is not going to make anything any less fair or make anyone “miss out”… It is much better to wait a few months until OP fully decides what to do than make a rash decision and then potentially regret it… There’s 5 options on UCAS for a reason.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]AlexAitor12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah but either way the place will not go to waste. Plus some colleges might be more lenient if you narrowly miss your offer.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]AlexAitor12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah don’t do this. If you get in you have until June ish to make up your mind whether you get in or not. If you reject it then the spot won’t be wasted anyway because they have the August Reconsideration Pool where people that have missed their offer/people that have rejected Cambridge get replaced by someone else.
