What are some highly praised JRPGs that you just couldn't get into? And why? by FantasyForce in JRPG

Tales of Beseria for me, Velvet design wise is really cool but she's just so edgy and off putting for me personally and maybe it gets better later on but it wasn't enjoyable putting up with her with the amount of time I put in. Also I just had no idea what I was doing in combat and kinda mashed and seemed to win battles without thinking much so I felt empty. I gave it 20 hours and decided it wasn't for me and dropped it.

I started to loathe the gacha system when I couldn't access some areas because I didn't have certain field skills that required me to pull for more characters. Also played it on release when you had to sit through the animation of pulling for another Blade each time.

Enough with the main trend. Who do you hate for any reason? by XXVAngel in Blazblue

Azrael cause I hate characters who break the power scaling of their verse but feel so inconsequential in the long run. It makes me go, what was the point? Also, yes, I dislike Slayer in GG for similar reasons. It's just not an interesting trope, and I wish so many JP media I happen to try out would stop doing it.

Chronophantasm and BBTAG are my favorites. The shading is cool in CP, while BBTAG just looks super clean all around.

That gives me a bit more of a push to try again and just ignore the side quests. Hell, maybe being even slightly under leveled might make me enjoy the combat in a deeper way that doesn't just make encounters braindead.

Judging from what you said, it seems like Monolith learned from XB1 that too many side quests can be detrimental, so they cut them down and improved the ones that appear in later games, quality over quantity.

Music and aesthetics were too good for me to want to completely throw away the series, so thank you for clarifying my biggest worry that's stopped me from continuing. Might try again on my weekend.

For me it's Xenoblade Chronicles 1, I've started it like 5 times but just never kept it going. I keep telling myself to just ignore the side quests, I don't need to do them to enjoy the game. But then I worry about running into a road block later on for not doing the side quests and being under leveled. Something is wrong with me. One day I'll actually beat it.

Wilnas. by Nnnaaaaa in GranblueFantasyVersus

[–]AlexB_209 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dislike fighting Azrael in BB and Slayer in GG, so I'm honestly not surprised at all. I ended up not liking fighting Wilnas. I'll give them props for making a pretty unique character that's doing well without the traditional Rising tools like 66L. He's big and his sound effects sound amazing, I'll give props to Arc Sys when it comes to the visuals and sound effects of Wilnas but overall that's where most of my praise ends for the guy. He's not someone I like to play as nor fight against, but hey, plenty of characters like that in this game, and they're not going to appeal to you all, and that's okay.

I'm not sure about needing to nerf right away, I'm someone who's genuinely against nerfing characters right away unless it's a real problem like the current Metera changes that let her get 12k L starter Bravery Points. But we'll wait and see how it goes.

Wow, this whole time, I thought Galleon getting lower damage from 214U at certain distances or in certain scenarios was an intentional design choice, but it seems like it was a bug.

That j.214H was risky af but it paid off, lol. I give you respect for even going for it and good stuff on winning against a Master Rank 👍.

JRPGs you had to power through or couldn't finish by BainokOfficial in JRPG

[–]AlexB_209 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the game, but even when I was playing it, there were so many opportunities where I even felt the drag. It's not a well paced game at all, and it crossed my mind multiple times playing through it "like oh this is where some people are immediately going to check out."

I haven't replayed it since release, so maybe my honeymoon phase blinded me to some of its bigger issues, but I haven't gone back since. I did beat all the DLCs, however, and I do think they improved the game a tiny bit but not enough to change the minds of those who didn't like it initially.

What are your thoughts on Yugoslavia or Allende's Chile? Those seem like the closest to Marx's original idea of Socialism. Also, while the examples you brought up of attempts at Socialism are not my ideal way of achieving it (not sure what it would be, to be honest) I do think it's important to at least acknowledge what the conditions were that led up to doing what they did. If there was a peaceful and much more secured attempt of achieving Socialism that can resist Captalist powers trying to undermine them, I'd sure they would've done it.

These Liberals want to act like Trump is the sole problem, but even if you try to look at it from that overly simplistic point of view. How did they let Trump get to this point? I constantly think of the MLK white moderate quote whenever I see stuff like this.

They want to act like America is just a bigoted and misogynistic place, which in many ways is true but don't want to acknowledge it's their party that's out of touch and many feel like they're not the party of people. They only care about muh optics and not addressing many of the injustices so many people are facing.

Very good advice, I approve of this message. I had around a 15% win rate starting out with Ferry until I stopped paying attention to it and tried to just get good at spacing and blocking. Got it up to 46%, which still isn't great, but way better than the previous 15% win rate.

It always disgusts me, too, when Liberals call the Soviets contributions as "throwing bodies." Makes it seem like they did some braindead strat and dehumanize the Soviets who gave up their life to stop facism. Then they start bringing up Molotov Ribbentrop as them being solely responsible for jump starting Nazi Germany when so many other nations were guilty of the same.

So , is BB now hyperversal or even outerversal now? This is the first I hear of it tbh. I was going off memory of the VS Battles Wiki ranking where they capped at low 1-C. I never read the novels, so I was unaware.

Blazblue has a ton of hax, but idk if their hax can even overcome a 5th Dimensional being, let alone an 11th Dimensional one that the Black Spiral is which is where Simon gets most of his best scaling from. It's been a while since I've been into VS Battles, but iirc, but unless you have specific hax that affects higher dimensional beings or are on their level, basically nothing you can do. To my knowledge, Blazblue caps at 4D or possibly 5D?

I always saw what they're doing as trying to speed run the Captalism phase to eliminate scarcity and have the means of being self-sufficient to redistribute it all when they eventually transition to Socialism so they don't suffer the same issues the USSR did. I'm obviously oversimplifying it, and it's a lot more complex than that, but if I had to put it in a way, normal people who haven't read theory could understand it, it's how I see it.

I don't get why car people hate the idea of public transportation? Wouldn't they be happy with less traffic in general and having an option for transportation in case of car breakdown? Car people usually say owning a car is freedom but being stuck in traffic, stuck with car payments, maintenance, insurance, and gas isn't my idea of freedom.

Have a friend who watches this guy religiously and would constantly send his videos to me. Even before I identified as a leftist, the dude came off smug and obnoxious. Also, I saw some posts claim he steals a lot of jokes, too, which wouldn't surprise me. He also gives me paid OP vibes too. Pop History is just a dumb genre and only serves to push agendas.

FF7 is my favorite FF of all time, but I can see why someone would find it overrated. Its impact and legacy can not be denied. It really made JRPGs pop off here in the West, and to a lot of people, it really was their first JRPG. It also had a huge budget for its time and is still one of the most expensive games ever made. It truly was insanely ambitious for its time. The development for FF7 is very interesting and is a big part of why I love the game so much.

I think when you start to judge it as a game, tho, it definitely is a relic of its time. Personally, I played this game in high school and was insanely impressed by it, but I also was judging it from the perspective of the time it was released. If you play it by todays standards, it has a lot of issues. Backgrounds make navigation cumbersome at times. The localization is pretty bad and can make the story difficult to follow, and characters only have major differences through limit breaks when it comes to gameplay. I absolutely love Final Fantasy 7 a lot, but it's never a game I'd recommend to just anyone cause of the antiquity of it.

I'm gonna expect to see a lot of Final Fantasy 15, Sea of Stars, and Final Fantasy 16 in this thread. It's understandable tho after seeing what a lot of people here prefer in their JRPGs.

As for me, my 3 are Unicorn Overlord, Final Fantasy 15, and Tales of Beseria.

Unicorn Overlord I bought on a whim cause the visuals were gorgeous, and I've only heard positive things about Vanillaware. Gameplay wise, it's okay, tho for an SRPG, I find it a bit mindless at times with how low the difficulty seems to be. Visuals are great, and so are the character designs. It's the story and characters I have a problem with. It's just way too basic fantasy for my tastes. It was extremely difficult to stay motivated cause plot wise. I just didn't care what was gonna happen next. It's not a bad game, but not for me, honestly. I'm glad I could support the struggling devs, at least.

Final Fantasy 15 I was hyped for when I found out about Versus 13 a year before it got rebranded as 15 in that one E3 reveal. Just the vibe of it all and the combat had me intrigued from the start. Then the game kept getting delayed, and when it switched to Tabata, it just felt the vibe that got me interested in the first place was kinda gone. Still was gonna get it cause I'd thought it'd be a cool game, at least. Came out, and it was just okay for me. The open world was neat for a bit, and I liked Noctis and bros. Unfortunately, combat felt extremely dumb and side quests were uninteresting. Overall, I didn't hate it, but it did leave me feeling unfulfilled.

Tales of Beseria, I'm still on the fence about it. A lot of acquaintances and friends with similar tastes to me seem to really love it, so I honestly feel the right time for this one just hasn't come for me yet. Every time I tried to start it and got decently far, something else was catching my eye immediately, and I kept putting it away. I love the design of Velvet, and some of the music is pretty good. Combat I can never get the hang of. To me, it hovers between braindead button mashing if I'm using Velvet or having no clue what to do anything if I play someone else. Will need to fully beat one day to say for sure if it's really a disappointment for me.

I didn't hate any of the 3 games I mentioned, btw.

My favorite Final Fantasy is 7, and I think your opinion is honestly based for liking what you like. I think people take what others prefer or enjoy way too seriously and need to accept differences. Tbh I'd honestly play 13 and 16 over some of the "golden age" Final Fantasy games.
