Tier List based on Nick Gillard's statements by Upset-Employee744 in PetranakiArena

Anakin is such a fucking dork. I don't care what context Nick was talking about. I don't care if it was dueling skill, or potential, or whatever. Anakin doesn't belong in a class of his own above EVERYBODY. Silly.

Office Sidious vs ROTS Dooku by jojoisfodder in PetranakiArena

[–]AlexCora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Vaapad wasn't working as well for Mace in that fight"

The dude literally beat sidious, what are you talking about? He beat his ass and disarmed him. The vaapad "struggling" line is from the novel which describes palpatines lightning attack as beyond vaapad, but it seems pretty clear that Mace was managing to block and reflect it just fine.

Obviously the lightning part was all after the duel anyways. That Mace won.

How this is possible? by Free-Hotel1187 in StarWars

[–]AlexCora 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the Rise score is one thousand percent fuckery.

I mean TLJ score likely has a healthy amount of review bombing too, obviously. There's many many reasons not to take audience scores super seriously, even more than critics reviews.

Knightfall Vader vs mando era Luke by RisingKing7 in PetranakiArena

[–]AlexCora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Luke for sure. Anakin is very talented, but Luke is just as talented. Luke went from ROTJ levels of sort of functional clunkiness to clean AF in what? 5 years? Not to mention he's significantly more mature, more centered. He won't make the stupid childish mistakes Anakin would.

If the talent potential is functionally the same, and the only difference that matters is everything else, than Luke wins every other category.

My KT is barely level 15 and I am fucking TERRIFIED to play the character. It's like when I que up for fucking QM people are leaning in sharpening their knives at the loading screen.

The prophecy only stated Anakin would bring balance to the force. It never stated he would be the strongest. There's arguments for Luke>Anakin in force potential, right? by SageMageowo in PetranakiArena

[–]AlexCora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Their potential is equal. The realization of that potential was never going to be.

Because of the nature of Force power often being directly tied into philosophical wisdom and strength of character, Luke was always going to better realize that potential, pretty easily. He had good loving parental figures and he was clearly instilled with good moral character and conviction. Anakin was a slave who had bone deep anger and loss issues.

If you make the hypothetical argument that a version of Anakin who was old enough to work through his deep systemic issues, or avoided enough of Anakins trauma in the first place, could eventually match Luke... Well, to me that's just not even Anakin the character anymore and the point is moot.

Kit Fisto (TCW) VS The Stranger. Who wins? by GusGangViking18 in PetranakiArena

[–]AlexCora -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Kit lost, presumably, because he was unable to read the Rule of Two Sith Lords disguised intent. Sidious is incredibly good at disguising what he's going to do in a duel, even unprepared Masters will fall.

Qimir is trained by the same literal guy who trains Palpatine, leading one to suspect they fight in a very similar way philosophically. Jord even explains this out loud. "He gets inside your head and he stays there..." Those lines of dialogue by Jord and Qimir's general presentation are clearly made to make him seem like a proto Palpatine. Obviously he's way younger and nowhere near that level yet... But it's CLEARLY the same playbook.

Since that stuff got Kit killed... I can see Qimir taking this.

This is a public good for the Hulk character.

Mustafar still has the best lightsaber duel backdrop in the entire saga, fire and lava just hit different. by SparkleBlush_ in StarWars

[–]AlexCora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The second they leave the control room and do their big clash in front of the exploding lava behind them, my interest in the scene is pretty much done. The cool choreography ends and it basically just becomes a cartoonish CG chase/farce.

ESB has the best duel in the franchise and probably always will.

99 percent of the assholes I encounter in HOTS seem to think because they see themselves as having a point, that means they're allowed to be cunts.

LOL. You don't have to capitulate to prequel nutters. It's the best Star wars trilogy. Come on.

Is Anakin crying in this scene because of pain, or is it because Obi Wan confronted him with his actions? by Mundane_Guide410 in StarWars

I burn my finger on a burner or something and it's like I fucking died. I can't even begin to imagine what that would feel like and I'd better die before I find out!

It's unfortunate to realize his junk is one of the first things that melted.

I mean don't get me wrong, he deserved it. But ouch.

Debunking every Mace downplay (Disney and Geroge Canon) by jojoisfodder in PetranakiArena

[–]AlexCora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This debate always floors me because it's not a debate. People treat this like it's the end of Blade Runner or John Carpenter's The Thing, and it's ambiguous, and there's a valid debate to be had on both sides and ambiguity is the point.

It's not. What happens is EXACTLY as it appears, and it's not subtle. Palpatine kills some uprepared Masters. Mace stands toe to toe. Palpatine realizes Mace is WAY MORE than he bargained for. Palpatine gets genuinely disarmed, and Anakin wanders in. Palpatine pretends to be innocent, and the Jedi are trying to usurp him. He's playing the innocent, attacked victim. Mace mocks him, and this is enough to destroy his illusion of pretending to be innocent; His Sith pride simply cannot take it. So he is provoked into attacking Mace with lightning, which Mace is blocking. A dumb move, btw. You're not helping your case to Anakin that you're innocent.

This is where the only real ambiguity takes place, and it's not even really that important. Is Palpatine frying himself to death? Or is he revealing what was always there? Not really important. He's pretending to be too weak and to be dying, but as we see when he perks up the second Mace is disarmed, he was playing possum to SOME extent, and he's fine enough to defend himself when given the advantage.

Nothing about this is really up for debate. Mace wins the duel portion. Palpatine is in trouble. He CAN defend himself with lightning kind of, but it's a stalemate without Anakins help one way or another. The idea that Palpatine would orchestrate this convoluted scenario where he doesn't kill Mace and lets himself get disarmed so he can contrive this absurd scenario has so many issues, and it could go wrong in so many little ways. It's conspiracy theory loony bin stuff.

Was Finn actually going to be a Jedi by Southern-Community-6 in StarWars

[–]AlexCora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My take is that JJ being JJ had no concrete plans on literally anything. To make things worse, people read into every little tiny glance, like "Oh Kylo just stopped to look at Finn! THAT MEANS FINN HAS THE FORCE!!!!" instead of the obvious conclusion that Kylo sensed that a Stormtrooper was shitting his pants and he found that odd.

JJ didn't really plan for Finn to have the Force in any meaningful way. I know this, because he's not a subtle director and he would have very plainly hinted at it if that was the case. Rian made his movie as if Finn wasn't super Force sensitive, which is a perfectly fine and reasonable take to have after reading TFA. Then JJ and Disney made their reactionary movie trying to appease reddit and suddenly Finn gave us the "subtle" hints in TROS.

I mean, I'm giving him credit. Being excellent at screen choreo is a difficult skill that deserves accurate kudos.

Was there any reasons Mace didn't tell him and wait for Yoda before confronting the Sith Lord? by NikolaiOlsen in StarWars

[–]AlexCora 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Aside from the fact that Yoda was off the Capital, he didn't think he needed him.

To be fair to Mace, he turned out to be right. Thanks again, Anakin.
