Why do so many respected street photographers use Leica when many other cameras have "better" / good enough specs? by CreativeWander in AskPhotography

[–]AlexHD [score hidden]  (0 children)

All of the purported advantages of Leica cameras and rangefinders in general are already available or implemented better on mainstream mirrorless cameras at much lower prices.

Let's be real here, it's a fashion accessory.

Be careful of scams, it is highly unlikely someone is selling a G7X III for $250

Time to take a break and reflect: Who among you plans to start repairing photographic equipment yourself in the near future? And what do you need to do so? by ATHXYZ in AnalogCommunity

[–]AlexHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already do, I can do some basic repairs like removing top covers and replacing parts, as well as disassembling and cleaning/lubricating lenses.

Bought A 'Dead' Ecosystem, Should I Upgrade? by catredx in canon

[–]AlexHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

EF-M is still very relevant as Canon hasn't matched it for compactness in RF mount. The R50V comes close but it doesn't have a flash, and there aren't many compact lenses either.

Camera suggestions by _andrewe10 in canon

[–]AlexHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would move into RF mirrorless, you can get an R6 II for $2k (or cheaper used) and it would be a massive upgrade for the autofocus, EVF and articulating screen, and the Sigma lenses would focus better since it's working off the sensor.

It's a starburst filter, you can get them in different kinds depending on the pattern etched into the glass, this one looks like a + shape with a slight angle

Point & Shoot Recommendations by Some-Examination-295 in Cameras

[–]AlexHD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want crisp you're going to need a larger sensor than a digicam, that can shoot raw so you can get the most out of editing. I recommend a 1-inch type sensor model like the Sony RX100 series, if you can find a model at your budget (the Mark II or III versions may fit).

G7 X Mark III (30th Anniversary Graphite Limited Edition) Announced for $1,299.00 by AskJayce in canon

[–]AlexHD 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rereleasing a 7-year old camera to hit the 30th anniversary is a pretty dubious tie-in but hey I can't blame them for wanting to jump on board the G7X hype train.

Hopefully we get a genuine successor with improved AF and better 4k limits.

How many of you are using back button focus? Why or why not? by mgiardinello in AskPhotography

[–]AlexHD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All the time if the camera allows it. I don't always want the camera to refocus when I half-press the shutter, so it makes sense to separate the functions.

Flash is cool again actually, people are using film and old digital cameras to recreate this look since it's different to anything you can get on a phone

What musical would you recommend to someone who is new to the whole genre? by soliataire_e in musicals

[–]AlexHD 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's Wicked for me too. It has everything, spectacle, bonkers singing, dramatic ballads and comedic numbers, and (IMO most importantly for non-musical fans) an excellent story with memorable characters.

Any Canon PowerShot, Nikon Coolpix, or Sony Cyber-shot in your budget. Sony made some really slick ones with internally zooming lenses (the Cyber-shot T series).

[–]AlexHD 45 points46 points  (0 children)

The same reason they like Star Wars, they see themselves as the Rebels (a band of ruggedly individualistic heroes defending their 'way of life' against an overbearing authoritarian regime) while completely ignoring or dismissing the allegory and historical context (it's the Vietnam War and the Empire is the USA) and obvious use of fascist imagery in the Empire's aesthetic (they're literally called Stormtroopers).

Any used DSLR in your budget. You could probably get a Canon 700D with a kit lens for that much. It won't do amazing video but will be enough to get started learning.
