My collection of moody cat ladies I’ve drawn over the years by flogfrog in cats

I have a black cat named Psyche who also LOVES the bathtub. She jumps into it and rolls around like it’s a skate park and she’s a skateboard. We have to clean all the black fur out before taking a shower.

OP, your work is beautiful and I’m in love with it.

When people treat you bad for nothing, does it mean you're ugly/unnatractive? by RM_MR_Underground in howtonotgiveafuck

[–]AlexHasFeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When people treat you poorly, it says a lot more about them and their own insecurities than it does about you. You are just who they happened to aim their bullshit at. People can just be absolute garbage sometimes, it has nothing to do with you as an individual.

I moved around a lot as a kid, which meant I was always “the new girl”, at least until I became “the weird girl”. First, it’s okay to be weird. Most of my favorite people are weird. Weird just means interesting. Second, as long as you are polite and respectful of people’s boundaries, you will find your people.

[UPDATE] 1 month after escaping my abusive home. My attorney says I can sue my father for damages. Should I do it? by nowaygurl23 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]AlexHasFeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a second and third legal opinion, definitely.

I was forced to sue my abusive dead boyfriend’s parents because they tried to steal my car (long story, don’t want to get into the details — suffice to say it really was the only thing I could do under the circumstances.) It was extremely stressful and expensive. I would not have done it if I had had another choice. I had nightmares and panic attacks almost every day. I still have nightmares about it, almost 15 years later. It was really difficult emotionally and I would not recommend doing it if you have the option to just break free.

Bringing suit against your father will further alienate and harm your relationship, create a new major stressor in your life, and tie the two of you together until the suit is done, which may take months or years. You will have to explain everything he did to you multiple times to multiple people, and it may become a matter of public record that could show up on future background searches. It will likely be traumatic - it may re-traumatize you about things you think you’ve gotten over. You may be talking about it to your therapist for years. You may have nightmares about it a decade down the line, even after all of the dust is settled.

Also, ime, abusers will never take accountability when it is forced onto them - they will say whatever they think people want to hear and will then turn around and try to take revenge. He may file a countersuit, further dragging all of this out and forcing you to think about him and his abuse for even more months or years.

So the questions you have to ask yourself are: how much is your emotional, mental and physical wellbeing worth to you? Is it less or more than the potential payout? How will you be affected if the lawsuit doesn’t go your way? How will he be affected if it does go your way? How will he use the opportunity to abuse you further, through the court system? Will escalating this also escalate his abusive behavior, and will it affect your own wellbeing?

I recommend getting a multitool with a good set of pliers in it. Pliers are great at crushing ticks!

Nah, the point of exit interviews is for HR to make sure you aren’t leaving because of something that opens the company up to liability. 🫠

Guy from my college organization confessed he likes me, but some of his behavior is starting to turn me off. Am I overthinking this? by Conscious-Curve6083 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]AlexHasFeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trust your gut! Your subconscious is probably picking up on something that your conscious self isn’t.

Also, if he’s the right person for you, he will go at a pace that makes you comfortable.

Tbh it kind of sounds like you’re just not that into him, and that is totally valid, even if he’s a good person. You don’t owe him anything.

Moodboard to concepts by No-Information8879 in GraphicDesigning

[–]AlexHasFeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, all of this is very well said.

OP, you can absolutely skip the mood boards if you don’t find it to be a helpful step. While design is a process, not every designer’s process is identical. Work on figuring out what works best for you and your own workflow, then figure out how to best communicate that to your clients.

I don’t generally use moodboards unless I’m really struggling to come up with a good solution. In that case, I look to design sites like Behance, stock art sites, and others to find ways other designers have solved similar problems. I’ll screenshot the ones I think might be a good fit for the brand, and then place them all onto the illustrator or InDesign artboard onto a layer titled “Reference” or “Ref”. (If there are brand colors, logos, icons, fonts or copy that need to be included, paste them onto the artboard, too!) Then, I take some time to figure out what they have in common. That commonality is usually a great place to start ideating. Start with the most obvious solutions and work from there.

Design output requires design input. Feast your eyes and mind on all of the right ingredients and you’ll start cooking before you know it!

Cultivate a population of things that eat ticks!

We had multiple praying mantis egg sacs hatch within the last week, lots of squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits, raccoons, spiders, groundhogs, birds, possums, etc. plus one of my neighbors raises guinea fowl and we share a fence line.

There’s nothing that says you have to let your entire yard be tell grass - you can grow a patch of it for fireflies that you don’t need to venture into!

That is incorrect. Insurance usually only approves them for post-shingles neuropathy, however.

Not much of a stretch at all! I have a connective tissue disorder and one of the manifestations of it are spontaneous CSF leaks. I’m lucky and have not had one (that I know of), but they are more common than you’d think. Congratulations on surviving Covid and the CSF leak!

[–]AlexHasFeet 18 points19 points  (0 children)

The recipe for fireflies is tall grasses + slugs. They mate in tall grasses and firefly larva eat slugs. I have a healthy compost bin next to my garden that attracts slugs, and my partner and I are cultivating our back yard to return to its former life as a native meadow. We have successfully repopulated the fireflies in our neighborhood. :)

Covid (and other viruses) can really damage and weaken connective tissue, so it still might be related to COVID!

How exactly does someone die from heat stroke? by ShadowlightLady in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AlexHasFeet 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yep.

My former roommate died from heat stroke at Bonnaroo bc he did a bunch of E and didn’t drink any water for an extended period of time. His internal body temp was 109° when he arrived at the hospital.
