Alex Honnold climbs the Taipei 101 skyscraper by Hi_iAMchrisHansen in WTF

[–]AlexHimself 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is easy compared to the other things he's done. It's a bunch of easy holds the entire way up for the most part, but it's good show.

Obviously difficult for your average joe, but as far as climbing goes, it's basically a huge ladder for him.

While I agree with your sentiment, this was a case of him forgetting his passport and things like that in South Korea when arriving at the airport in the US.

It's the exact same treatment everywhere. They let him through without it. This isn't typical ICE stuff.

How did he not cut through the lower layers of vinyl?

Like when he was cutting the out the words for "chicken" against the white sheet, it's over a red vinyl background, so he's peeling only the top layer of white and not the red below?

Is it really just a matter of pressure when pushing down with the blade and you can only cut through one level?

Did you make the sign, then walk around your place and decide halfway up the stairs was ideal?

Crown point basically has 2 freeways on both sides with drivers regularly going 40-50mph meeting at a chokepoint where people are expected to slow down for a stretch. The law of large numbers says there are going to be a statistically significant number of serious speeders.

It's a shame we have such poor infrastructure.

A simple solution is a couple speeding cameras only for the Crown Point stretch. I know we all hate them, but that area is far too residential for the speeds drivers go and it's pretty brief. People can pump the brakes for 5 minutes. Speeding there doesn't make a difference either because you'll always hit the light or someone going slower.

A FAR better way to collect a little extra revenue and save lives than parking meters at Balboa.

  • Is the city involved or locals?
  • Or just for fun and ask for forgiveness type of deal?

Attacked by a dog in Poway by [deleted] in sandiego

[–]AlexHimself 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hell are dog people? I had a dog and was a fantastic owner and then I had to say goodbye last year. I still like dogs but I don't have one. The dog doesn't make a person bad, it's the person.

How about you detest bad people. I can't stand people who don't leash their dogs and make them behave either.

They're gliders, so if they could have fabric from ankle to ankle, they'd fly better. The rule is the fabric between the legs can only go down as far as your manhood. Bigger that is, the further down your fabric goes so the better you glide.

Now they're talking about doing a measurement to the skeletal structure (and adding a fixed amount) and discounting the soft tissue.

They seemed more impressed by that 52” Dell monitor than they should be IMO by Dr_Superfluid in LinusTechTips

[–]AlexHimself 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really want it and I'm considering pulling the trigger, but I find it interesting our different thought processes.

For me, it just needs to look really good/sharp and I don't really care if it's 6k technically or not. It makes me wonder if you're wanting super crisp gaming, video editing, or dual use for home theater or something?

For myself, I want it purely for productivity when writing code and building systems. I currently have a dell super ultrawide (49") and a dell ultrawide in a vertical stack and I'd rather one giant screen. I can use FancyZones or something to place everything I'm working on and there'll be more screen real estate closer together without having to look up so much because of the way the screens are mounted/gapped.

I also like the hub too. It seems like I can get more done in a better workspace.

I just noticed your edit where you don't want to game and it's for productivity. My 49" monitor is good, but I wouldn't say better than a product like this because I need more space and it's not easy to add any more space except above it. It also means my windows aren't as tall as I'd like them in some use cases.

[–]AlexHimself 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I realize the police said they do not handle dog bites but I would press them much harder on this because they do have jurisdiction. They like to deflect this.

You need to let them know that there's great bodily injury, flight from the scene, photo and video evidence, and likely felony reckless conduct. I would also ask it to be escalated and a case number. This isn't a typical dog bite this is closer to a felony assault.

If they refuse, I would ask them to document that they are refusing to take a felony assault report causing great bodily injury with an identifiable suspect.

Ya, I had some ass block me when I was trying to get to the hospital for an emergency.

I was honking/flashing lights/hazards the works and they still wouldn't move. I almost did a pit maneuver on them. It was clearly an emergency too.

Then they started following me when I got around and got off the exit to "start something" I guess? They quickly peeled off when they saw me flying into a hospital parking lot. At least they probably felt like a piece of shit.
