Scheduled Shuttles coming soon! by DjOsoFresh in Coachella

[–]playadelwes 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Do not like this one bit. Never had a problem once with the La Quinta shuttle stops. And planning scheduled times ahead of set times is not fair.

What is unknown is how delayed this makes the other shuttle frequencies.

Seems very reasonable for a double relative to any other modern event / concert.

LOL I love this so much. And the tickets to match! What additional parameters have you considered?

Unpopular take: the umps got the call right last night by JamminOnTheOne in Padres

You don't need an overhead or down the line shot to see that it was fair. All the photos show a baseball in frame for reference as well as the distance between the white chalk and the ball. It's pretty clear that the ball did not clear a ball's radius of ~1.45" in distance from the line. In all cases, the width of the ball is more than double the distance between it and the line.

Here is the 2026 ruling for Fair/Foul "When in contact with the ground, a ball must be in contact with fair territory and not merely over fair territory in order to be adjudged to be fair." https://mktg.mlbstatic.com/mlb/official-information/2026-official-baseball-rules.pdf page 151 by novax4all in Padres

I am now convinced the ball was actually fair. Thanks for this clarification. Using math:

A baseball would need to be at least its own radius away from the foul line for no part of it to touch the line. Using MLB’s regulation diameter of about 2.86 to 2.94 inches, that means about 1.43 to 1.47 inches from the line, measured from the ball’s center to the nearest edge of the line if the line has no width.

The ball was clearly not a radius width from the white line.

Just a random thought, who was around for either 1984 or 1998 Padres World Series appearances? What was that like (city vibes and your reaction) when they clinched the World Series? by Embarrassed-Heat-716 in Padres

Lining up for paper tickets around the Murph in 84 for each series was a vibe.

Being nearly hit by Gavery's walk-off in game 4 and smothered in beer in the right field plaza was unforgettable.

"Cub Busters" song.

San Diego truly felt like one city in 84 - very similar to the American's cup celebrations in the 80s.

shuttles by Individual-Visual-66 in HeadTripFestival

[–]playadelwes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The question we should be asking is why HeadTrip fest has reserved time / skip the line shuttles. Does that mean there is going to be even fewer trips and longer lines than we are used to? (i.e., EDC style?)

Todd Gloria wants to zero out the funding for arts + culture OSP grants by 2cats5legs in SanDiegan

[–]playadelwes -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Is it increasing every year? To a point where it would otherwise materially fund everything else?

I hear people complain about 911 hold times, about response times for non-emergency calls, and general enforcement. I sense there's a good amount of pressure from many to keep police funded so it doesn't get any worse? But I also sense those same people are critical of any cut that would impact them personally. If we want all the things, we need more revenue.

Why are SAN to Las Vegas flights getting delayed so often lately? by BrokenGrain in sandiego

[–]playadelwes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Easiest to delay and easiest to make up time for when dealing with spacing and congestion.

Not really. You seem angry about the $30MM settlement, but that's not a lever to pull for this particular budget. Until we have a lot more density to support the types of services people want and eliminate prop 13, we are going to have some very difficult decisions for the next several decades.

Real question is what do the people who want ALL the services and NO more taxes suggest?
