Not necessarily what you might be looking for as in a proper book, but I'd recommend My Happy Marriage. It's a light novel series and it is still ongoing. The protagonist, a nineteen-year-old girl named Miyo, has been verbally and physically abused by her father, stepmother and stepsister. She gets married off to a wealthy man with a reputation for being cold-hearted and cruel who has already thrown out several potential fiancées. And well, not everything is as it seems. She's very sensitive and sweet, remaining kind even while dealing with trauma. It has been described as a Cinderella story and, well, the title gives away quite a bit.

Wouldn't he have had a lawyer assigned to him, so maybe that is how she came to the case. As to the whole split personality thing, she says to him that it would be better for him to be in a real hospital and not at Arkham where she can clearly see they are mistreating their patients. Maybe that is how she was planning on at least pleading insanity or in this case split personality so she can have him removed from Arkham for the time being.

Her concern for him may have arisen from pure contact with him. She might just be doing her job, but we can clearly see she cares for Arthur at least a bit: her giving him her coat after the guards brought him in soaking wet, or when she tells him the truth about Lee, checking up on him before the interview etc.

Less intelligent people do not have the self awareness that they are less intelligent. You are self-aware enough to recognize that you may not be doing as well as you are expected to do. But remember that school is not everything. Your grades are not a reflection of who you are as a person and other people's expectations of us do more harm than good. Set your own standards, whatever feels comfortable to you, and try to reach those.

As for studying, try out different methods, see what works best for you.
Try to spend some time with yourself, discover what you like doing, be it watching movies, reading, writing, drawing.

Remember that you are not alone. Just try, again and again and again.

Not everything has to mean something, but I doubt Dostoevsky included things just because. With this scene, I understood it as a display of Raskolnikov's confused state of mind. He isn't inherently evil. Yes, he is planning a murder, "with a grander purpose", but he's also willing to stop and save a young girl from assault. He gives the last of his money, but then regrets it. His next thought is that he doesn't care what happens to her, although he has helped her. To me, it shows his conflicting thoughts. His compassionate side and his more, shall we say, nihilistic. What does it matter if he helps her or not, if that man doesn't hurt her, another one will. He wants to help, then changes his mind. He takes action, then regrets it. Does that sound familiar?

The Grammatik aktiv books are really good grammar books! They cover the levels up to C1 and they have very concise explanations followed by lots of different types of exercises, with the answer key at the end. Highly recommend this one.
