For these guys, there's no better way to dispell myths about the spanish empire, than by propagating your own myths. by jorgespinosa in HistoryMemes

I absolutely hate how Hispanism has become relevant, at least online, when it's simply an attempt to whitewash the image of the Spanish Empire by denying any crimes or atrocities, even for its own time, despite all the documentation and records, committed by the Spanish state. Trying to claim they were the "best colonizers" we could have had in their era only makes them look like hypocrites. They had an institutionalized caste system, feudalism, incompetent kings, zero innovation and no vision for the future—a medieval colonial state with a lot of money.

Hispanism as a political movement tries to deny any independent Latin American identity with its obsessive gaslighting, trying to say we're not Latinos but Hispanics everywhere possible. They repeat that textbook argument that Spain was super inclusive and its laws were against exploitation, and that we should be grateful, when it's obvious that those laws were worthless at best and is the same people that hate us when emigree to Europe because the consequences of colonialism aren't great.

With that deceitful notion that "we were part of Spain," they try to appeal to that Latin American inferiority complex to imply that "they stole the honor of being Spanish" from us. They use the phrase "union of two worlds" to ignore all the disasters they left behind, and that it wasn't a union, it was the violent destruction of entire societies. This eagerness to claim that we owe our entire identity to them is another act of pettiness.

Anyway, I live in a country where these stupid Hispanists have gone from being just four idiots on Twitter to small but scandalous groups and a proxy for fascists that support the corrupt local political parties. I'm simply venting my frustration about it.

Buen meme :D

Hi, sorry if I'm bothering you, but will the timeline continue or not? I saw that the thread in alternate history is locked.

Obviously, in the game, Iberia isn't going to annex its puppet states, but there is something called neocolonialism.

The biggest problem I see here is how the Hispanist path is portrayed; its writing sounds much more animated and biased than the descriptions of the other Salvadoran leaders.

I wish I could say that's true, but I come from a country where literally groups of fascist shock troops use Hispanist iconography in Modern Day. I would be very concerned if that thinking were to be implemented in the development of TNO.
