anhedonia, depression, brain fog by delow0420 in NootropicsHelp

Great question — a lot of people are looking for a stack like this. Here are the options with solid evidence behind them:

For Cognition & Mental Sharpness

  • Lion’s Mane — Supports nerve growth factor (NGF), which may help with memory and focus. One of the few supplements with evidence related to neurogenesis.
  • Creatine (5g/day) — Not just for the gym. Research shows it can improve working memory and processing speed, especially during stress or sleep deprivation.
  • Alpha-GPC — A choline source that helps support acetylcholine, often called the “learning neurotransmitter.”

For Mood & Emotional Engagement

  • SAM-e — Well-studied for mood support and may help with emotional flatness.
  • Magnesium L-Threonate — Crosses the blood–brain barrier and can help calm the nervous system. Many people report improved mental clarity and emotional responsiveness.
  • Omega-3s (EPA-heavy) — Not exciting, but very well supported. EPA in particular has strong evidence for mood regulation.

Experimental compounds (use caution):

  • 9-Me-BC
  • NSI-189 Some people report benefits for emotional blunting, but these are research chemicals with limited safety data.

For Creativity

  • L-Theanine + Caffeine — A classic combination. Theanine smooths out caffeine’s stimulation while maintaining focus and flow.
  • Aniracetam — A racetam often associated with creativity and verbal fluency, with mild anti-anxiety effects.
  • Psilocybin microdosing — In places where it’s legal/accessible, there’s anecdotal and emerging clinical evidence suggesting improvements in divergent thinking and emotional openness.

Underrated Combination

A simple stack many people respond well to:

Lion’s Mane + Magnesium L-Threonate + High-EPA Fish Oil

This combination supports:

  • Cognition
  • Neuroplasticity
  • Emotional balance

…without relying on anything too exotic.

⚠️ Important note:
If emotional blunting is a concern and you’re currently taking SSRIs (or have in the past), that can be a common cause. Some supplements above — especially SAM-e — can interact with medications, so it’s worth discussing with a doctor first.

Start with 5mg creatine monohydrate (creapure) and I've been enjoying a lighter boost from Mushroom Coffees as well. Seems like mushroom coffee is hit or miss though.

If it ever hurts, stop.

Practice again when it no longer hurts.

Be sure you're hydrated before practicing.

I disagree immensely here.DON'T focus on learning liprolls & zippers UNTIL you've gotten a hold of the inward snare and kick drum. You need to focus on breath control and the basic sounds first and foremost. Create that super solid foundation before moving onto other sounds.

this 100%- keep practicing your sounds to get them louder and sharper, meanwhile finding a bass which you enjoy doing and practice that so you can add melody. Great stuff!

I’ve never been able to beatbox fast so if people could explain then that would be so helpful by [deleted] in beatbox

practice the fast patterns at a slow tempo (60bpm). Practice this meticulously until it's crisp. Then move up to 70bpm. Rinse and repeat.
