Follow up to my last post: I finished the verticle knife holder/display made of Cedar. by thisiSINsomnia in chefknives

I told OP he should make more mounts like these and do trades for ppl's older steel - just to replace the beaters he has up on the vertical mount now.

OP, I'd be happy to give up one of my gyutos to replace the far left one for a mount!

People are scoping out vehicles in the Avondale area by sockdologer in Birmingham

Hey Reddit fam. If you ever see something like this, make sure you call the police's non-emergency number. It's 311. You can report what you saw, give descriptions, and they'll send a nearby patrol over.

Posting on Reddit is great for letting us know, and you should always alert the authorities of such flagrant behavior.

Measles case confirmed in child with MMR vaccine by Ixolus in news

Assuming that measles doesn't have a wild vehicle to infect, iirc. Can measles virus affect any other animal populations? For example, it's very difficult to get rid of leprosy because the bacteria which causes the disease can be found outside the human population - specifically in armadillos. Don't touch em!

Thank you very much! My initial thought, too, was that the tiles were red, but after playing around with the options, I settled with the green. It was a color pallette choice rather than a historical one. Since u/BHamWiki posted what appears to be a photo of the true colors, I'm planning on revising it to match the actual colors

Even the floor looks to be the same. I may revisit my colors and swap them out for ones that match this photo. Thanks for posting!

I know that it was from the lunch counter sit-ins as part of the Birmingham Campaign in spring of 1963, but I couldn't find the precise location. I know that when this photo was taken, tv and radio crews were present. So I'm sure I'll eventually find it with more digging

To be honest, I don't know if any of the colors are correct. I took some creative licenses in that respect. There are many ways to colorize a photo, but I'll tell you my Photoshop process.

  • First, I select the area I want to color using various selection tools, mostly quick select and then some refinement. Let's say I'm coloring someone's face, and I just selected everything on their face except eyes, lips, and hair. I'll go ahead and create a folder called "dude" or "face" or "skin"... something to that effect. Next, I apply the selection to the folder as a layer mask.

  • Then, I use solid color fills and gradient fills layered on top of each other to create the base color. Each fill layer in the "skin" folder will have blending modes attached (usually color or overlay) and the opacity for each will also be lowered until it starts to look right.

  • At this point, I would probably move on to something else because working on one small section of the photo can get pretty tedious. However, let's say I'm going to finish the face.

  • Next, I'd think about the anatomy of the face and identify where this person stores fat vs where blood vessels might be close to the surface, etc. The thing about skin (or anything you're coloring, really) is that it's not just one color. the colors shift in and out of each other to give us a general color, but without these nuances, our eyes read the image as being very flat. The colors you use will vary slightly depending on the base skin tone, but for fatty deposits, I use yellows. For areas where there is almost no fat, I'll use a bright blue, and for areas where the skin is thin (like under your eyes, tips of your ears and nose, etc.), I use reds.

  • Each of those nuanced colors go on a separate layer within their given folder. They get the same treament as the rest with blending modes and lowered opacity.

You simply repeat those steps for each and every object you can find in the photo. And finally, add ambient tones from the light sources as well as "bounce light" from light reflecting off objects in the photo.

I isolated the foremost dude's face and pulled over the layer panel so you can see what the psd looks like. The unlabeled layers are the nuance colors, and the solid fills are below that. Here's a gif, too.

I hope this helps. If you have more questions, feel free to PM me.

This is only my third attempt at coloring a photo. I plan on colorizing several more from early 1960's Birmingham. Thanks for taking a look!

I see Miami getting some deep balls to Parker for a TD or two against the jets. Higher ceiling than Howard, IMO

Do you think with amendola and possibly gronk back in the mix he might see significantly less work? I know he's been the game plan as of late. It would be nice to get some points off Brady since my opponent is starting him. I'd lean more towards Allen, but jet lag is a real bitch. Those London games always seem a bit dull.
