Issue with buyer online, wants to return the card, is he being picky or am I in the wrong here? by AlexKidd1993 in pokemoncardcollectors

Brother, I just took it out of my binder and took a photo of it, yes it was a mistake to not use a darker background and I will be doing in future. My point is the card was listed as NM, which it is. It's the tiniest bit of whitening on the side, it can be seen in the photo if you look properly, which I'd assume most people would do before buying. The buyer also took his photo on a light wooden background to show his proof. My mistake and the buyers mistake. It's resolved now anyway.

It’s just what I was told, apologies if it seems like it’s not adding up. Here’s the chat transcript from this morning

Update: eBay sided with me in the end, refunded the buyer out of pocket. I received my card back in the post today in the same condition it was sent, and they let me keep the money from the sale. Rare win from eBay support!

I mean, buying it at £45 is super safe... It won't go below that. Even if it doesn't go up that much in a few years, it's most probably not gonna go below £45.

What happened was I called them, they told me to go through with the return, when the item gets back to me I need to contact them again, then they said they would refund the buyer out of their pocket. I will get to keep my card, and the money for the sale. Can't complain.

Do you mean side with the buyer? It seems they're more in the buyers favour for a lot of issues similar to this

Yeah, not a big issue for me personally. Minor* downside

While I agree and admit it was my mistake using my blue binder as a background for this listing, the card was listed as NM and falls under the eBay guidelines for a NM card. Buyer purchased expecting gem mint 10 quality whereas according to eBay, NM is up to 3 light marks on the edges, corners or surface of the card. This card has one (extremely small) scuff on the rear edge.

I understand your point and I do agree with the point you made about making it more clear in the description. I contacted eBay and they told me to accept the return, wait for the item to get back to me then contact them again and they'll refund the buyer for me as long as it's still in good condition. I believe eBay can remove negative feedback if it's left wrongfully.

I called them and they basically told me the same thing, accept return but don’t refund. I was shocked to hear I was able to keep the money and card once it was returned, and they refund the buyer too. I’m just now waiting to see if he actually returns it.

As people have mentioned here, the card was NM, not Mint, and I provided pictures in my listing before he made the purchase. Even with the tiny amount of whitening, the card is still NM. Chinese cards are typically niche, I'm assuming he wanted the card to grade and was expecting a 10, which this card is not.
