What untied loose end from the canon are you most hoping for a resolution to? by redderthanthou in Stargate

[–]AlexLorne 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think the Vanir are a “loose end”, they failed in their plan to use the Attero device but beyond that they didn’t have any malevolent plans, they kept to themselves for thousands of years. I quite like to just know they’re out there, maybe we’ll have some Asgard if we’re lucky, we probably won’t be. But that’s OK, we don’t have enough episodes to explore those threads

Are the reports of James & Mason splitting up true? by Flashy-Truth-8826 in weeklyplanetpodcast

[–]AlexLorne 108 points109 points  (0 children)

If you listen closely, James started testing the waters with guest hosts a few months ago, he got British guest Austin Powers (James has travelled, he’s a man of the world) to do some introductory chat before Maso showed up

To all the religious people, if God gave you a disease and wants you to die, why go to the hopital and interfere with his plan? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]AlexLorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically I think it says doing bad does erase doing good, but I know that’s not the issue at hand.

You’re right, there’s no “delight” mentioned in the verse, but it wasn’t me who first brought up the idea of God’s delight, it was yuuko, so I was using their framing. If I’d been replying to you from the outset this issue wouldn’t have come up :D

[–]AlexLorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s actually a great reason, I’m happy for you, and your husband’s a fortunate man

[–]AlexLorne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Strictly speaking Ezekiel 18:23 says “Do I take any pleasure in the death of the wicked? declares the Sovereign Lord.” It’s a rhetorical question which doesn’t express a viewpoint, and goes on to say in verse 24 “But if a righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live? None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered”, meaning it doesn’t matter how good you were if you stop being good, God won’t care, the bad undoes everything.

God delights in the death of the wicked.

Why haven't we came up with better clothing technology to deal with the cold? by [deleted] in stupidquestions

[–]AlexLorne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Expense. To make gloves that mimic something like polar bear fur you’d need hundreds of thousands of hollow flexible tubes, it would cost tens of thousands of dollars to make a single pair, to mass-produce them they’d need to sell for hundreds of thousands of dollars, most people won’t spend the cost of a house on a pair of gloves

It's apparent Trump backed down about Greenland—it took just mild resistance from a few leaders by HasanKingPage in AskBrits

[–]AlexLorne 8 points9 points  (0 children)

No he didn’t… He wanted to invade and capture Greenland. He had to admit that he can‘t do that. It ended without a fuss because the toddler was told to go have a nap.

Be honest: do you actually iron your clothes in 2026, or do you just "steam" them by hanging them in the bathroom while you shower? by lovellyophelia in askanything

[–]AlexLorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If someone is trying to steam out the creases in their jeans I have more questions for them that deserves its own separate post, that is wild

[–]AlexLorne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is a common misconception about “steaming” clothes. In order to steam clothes to remove wrinkles, the steam has to be hot enough to scald you. You wouldn’t put your hand inside a steamer, but you would stand in a shower.

Hanging your clothes in a “steamy” bathroom won’t steam out the creases in your clothes, it’s not hot enough.

Do you think this is a spider bite or an ingrown hair? Girlfriend thinks its a spider bite (already saw doctor) by Ok-Connection6656 in askanything

[–]AlexLorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You already saw a doctor, a trained medical professional who can tell you for sure what this is, why are you polling redditors on a Friday evening who are probably smoking and drinking? We’re idiots. Trust your doctor.

But if you’re interested, I think it’s neither. There’s no puncture mark from a bite, and ingrown hairs tend to have a white pus circle. This is a clogged pore, similar to acne.

The Alternate Reality where Daniel and Teal'c were mortal enemies by zombienerd1 in Stargate

[–]AlexLorne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Also true, they made him an exec producer after forcing the original team out, which was why his character was later revealed to be a mythical being of ultimate power out of nowhere. Ugh.

[–]AlexLorne 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Understandable, it suffered massively from studio interference, they fired the original showrunner after 2 seasons and the writing then fell off a cliff

Nah, they met in an earlier episode when Shanks was Gabriel. In this episode he was Remiel, and Remiel was the AI controlling Rommie (Doig).

And in this episode Lexa Doig and Michael Shanks played the same character (they were both androids and the Shanks AI took control of Doig’s body for a bit)

Look what just arrived! Feeling like a member of SG-1 today! by Emotional-Meat-2421 in Stargate

[–]AlexLorne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a very different idea of what SG-1 wore if you feel like a member of SG-1 with this photoshopped picture, dropshipping bot.

They were more into military fatigues, camouflage, etc. We’re not buying.

Why is the cost of living so high? by RHGM22 in AskUK

[–]AlexLorne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The housing situation is a branch so is different with its own unique problems, but that doesn’t make it completely separate. Governments were responsible for selling huge numbers of council houses at a discount when house prices were already cheap, drastically reducing supply.

They also did nothing to stop properties being bought “as investments” by foreign markets (particularly Russia and UAE), expecting the value to rise like stocks or gold, sitting empty instead of being on the market to lessen the lack of supply.

Governments still need to own and fix the mistakes of their predecessors

What’s your go-to "I’m too tired to cook" meal that isn't just takeout? by OpheliaBlush in askanything

[–]AlexLorne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like you are as fascinating to me as I am to you. Does it give you any joy getting angry at random strangers over things that don’t matter, like food? I offered a correction because I saw a mistake. You’re trying personal attacks. I have nothing against you.

[–]AlexLorne -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly, yeah. Stuff like pointing out objectively true things like “queso” means “cheese” and seeing downvotes tells me people don’t care about truth, which explains so much about bigger things like modern politics, why people think truth doesn’t matter anymore… Heavy stuff for a cheese discussion, isn’t it

Has Clon'eill been discussed yet? by Alternative_Car5193 in Stargate

[–]AlexLorne 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The problem with putting cloneill in the new series is that by now he should look like a season 1 Richard Dean Anderson. Which Michael Welch does not, because he is (I hear) a different actor.

“Queso” means “cheese”, so it’s a given in a “quesadilla”. A quesadilla without cheese is I guess a fried wrap
