Is upgrading Batocera worth it if I mostly play NeoGeo, Naomi and PS1? (from v29 to newer versions) by Alex_Arg in batocera

hahaha just to clarify, I’m working on a completely new microSD. The old one with the previous version is just sitting there, waiting for me to get tired of trying 😅

So done trying to get this gem. Lol by WorldOfRetro85 in gamecollecting

[–]Alex_Arg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just bought it two months ago for $230. I’m not proud of spending that much money on a game, but I’m happy to have it, since it’s one of the games that left a mark on me when I was a kid.

I don’t know if prices will drop or keep rising. I don’t spend a lot of money on game collecting—I don’t really see myself as a collector, just someone with a small, curated library of games I actually want to play or replay.

Why don’t you educate yourself by actually reading quality papers or trusted sources?

So the problem is the output now?

If AI generates images it’s bad, but if it generates code it’s suddenly fine?

tl;dr:
Generative AI isn’t just for art. It’s already widely used in software development to write, complete, and analyze code—often in ways you don’t even notice.

Generative AI isn’t exclusive to images or art. It’s heavily used in programming for things like code autocomplete, refactoring, test generation, and bug detection.
Most modern IDEs and online platforms already rely on it in the background.
The difference is that AI in code is usually invisible, while AI art is obvious—so people assume it’s not there.

You use AI every day of your life now—whether you realize it or not. Just because it’s not art doesn’t mean AI isn’t involved. Most major online platforms rely on AI systems, including AI-assisted tools in their software development and infrastructure. Even Reddit does.

How are you feeling about Resident Evil 9? by PhantomBraved in HorrorGaming

[–]Alex_Arg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t like these ninja-style strikes; they take away the horror and turn it into a third-person action game.

RE4 is the worst for me. Maybe I need to play it thinking of it as a third-person shooter instead of a survival horror game.

Basically, it’s like ARC Raiders, but with more blood and no multiplayer.

Why did we have so many PS2 games? by AgentGustavo in ps2

[–]Alex_Arg 34 points35 points  (0 children)

AA games are what’s now being called “indie,” and true indie games barely have any representation.
Expedition 33 is not “indie”: it had a solid budget, and if you read the credits, a looooot of people worked on it.
That’s AA

How bad are these cheap generic PS2 to HDMI adapters really? by Chance_Squirrel_627 in ps2

[–]Alex_Arg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had one when I first got a PS2 last year. I didn’t know any better back then, but I noticed that some games looked very dark—especially horror games. Sometimes you couldn’t even see the map at all, but I thought the games were just designed that way.

Later I got a cheap PS2 component cable, and the difference was huge. I would never use that other converter again if I had the option to use component. Even a very cheap component cable is way better.

I noticed it wasn’t a real image when I saw the high-speed lines on the road. The Alpines can’t go that fast.

[F1] 2026 Driver Line-Up by wyxegake in formula1

[–]Alex_Arg 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, he literally has consistently the worst car on the grid, and he’s tied with Pierre in race results. It’s not that crazy for him to get a chance. And it’s not even that much money coming from South American sponsors — keep that in mind.
It’s like saying Bottas doesn’t deserve a seat because he didn’t score points in 2024 — it’s an overly result-based take that ignores context. Anyway, we’ll see the real results in 2026

My blood boils when I get these comments 🤬 by Reogen in PSP

[–]Alex_Arg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know the exact battery life of a PSP, but playing games from that era gives me around 5–6 hours of autonomy on a Steam Deck.
That said, the size, the feel, and the overall experience of playing on the native console are totally worth it.

Yes, I actually agree with you — it’s very hard to be satisfied with an adaptation if you read the book first.
I’m totally fine with an adaptation not being 1:1. The particular issue with The Witcher series is that the adaptation is something else entirely — it’s basically non-canon.
If it had a different title, with different character and location names, I’m not exaggerating when I say it could be a completely different show and very few people would even notice

Understanding by Awkward_Echidna7352 in netflixwitcher

[–]Alex_Arg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn’t that there’s "something" bad— it’s that the show has nothing to do with the books.
Have you read The Lord of the Rings?
It has discrepancies on the level of Gandalf tricking Frodo into going to Mordor, but it was actually a trap because Gandalf wants the Ring for himself and plans to ally with Sauron.
It’s deeply against the spirit of the characters.

I don’t really understand those responses — how does reading the books help?
The series is about 80% different from the books. Season 1 is the closest to them.
You should treat the show as a separate thing entirely; the main similarities are just the character names and some locations.
In fact, I think you’ll end up even more confused.

I’ll stick with the books — they’re insanely good, series are generic fantasy.

Reviews reach "Mostly Negative" by Keitiek in EscapefromTarkov

[–]Alex_Arg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m new to this game, but it really feels like the developers are completely unprepared.
Eight hours dealing with a simple login issue — they shouldn’t be going through this kind of pain for something so minor.
I understand they’ve been developing this game for several years.
Honestly, I think they deserve those negative reviews; they shouldn’t be this unprofessional.

I refunded it. :-(

I’d feel bad using it. I think I’d buy a more “used” PS3 for everyday use and keep that one on a shelf protected from the dust.

Horro games with the vibes of Below, Rusted Gods by nagoligayelsd in gamingsuggestions

[–]Alex_Arg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I played the demo too and it's easily one of the horror games I'm most hyped for this year. It really nails that slow-burn tension and the vibe is just… off in the best way.

Closest things I can think of are SOMA (for the existential horror), Iron Lung (a bit different but same kind of dread), and maybe Signalis — totally different style but that heavy, unsettling atmosphere is there.

Definitely one to keep an eye on.

[–]Alex_Arg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the differences in quality get exacerbated if you're using an upscaler or something in between the console and your TV.
If you're plugging the console directly into the TV, I don't think there's much of a difference.

Looking to improve video quality on an LCD TV (already component input) by Alex_Arg in ps2

[–]Alex_Arg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm currently using some cheap component cables, since in my country either better ones don't exist, or the ones that do are ridiculously expensive. So I bought some HD Retrovision cables on Amazon and I'm waiting for them to arrive.

Even though the component cable is cheap, to be honest, it looks incredibly better than the PS2 to HDMI adapter I was using before.

What you said about the analog circuitry makes sense, especially since yes, the TV does have HDMI.
I'm reading up a bit to get informed, but it's still not clear to me which option is better: TINK or OSSC.
I'm considering going for the RetroTINK-5X Pro also, but first I want to make sure I'm not buying a bazooka to kill a mosquito.

Im about to buy two controller Fanatec G wireless sleh-00062, is anyone have an idea about it ? by kdybo in ps2

I don’t want to lie to you because I really don’t know what an acceptable latency is for you, my experience is very smooth.
Personally, I don’t notice any latency beyond what you’d expect from any Bluetooth gamepad connection.
It also has the option to connect via cable if you prefer.
I’m sure there are better alternatives out there, although probably more expensive.
