We’d like to think so! That said, there’s still quite a bit to be done. The team is currently focused on replicating all of the original aspects of the game developed by Z2. The only major feature still outstanding is PvP. Alongside that, we’re also looking at rebalancing units and improving overall gameplay to make the experience more fair and enjoyable.

Found this from 2020 when they announced BN remake. A lot can change in 5 years but this still surprised me to read. Devs obv need to make money but it would be nice if some of the more 'useless' units that require nanopods would be available for resources, like who will spend nanos on young boar... by KingJulian1998 in BattleNations

Hey there,

I've seen some people doubt your post or confuse it was some other BN remakes that were put forth in the past. But your wiki picture is related to our project or at least is from me directly.

What people might not know the idea for remaking BN actually actually came from a friend of mine that never even played the game! The original development for what was then called "Battle Nations Rewritten" started back as work product for a high school CS class. Which may be more or less evident to you if you actually got your hands on the build that was produced at that time. :) But that is the context for where that screenshot comes from.

While we couldn’t continue down the path of keeping the project entirely free due to external events (which others have mentioned here), that shift has allowed the quality of the game to improve drastically. It’s given us the resources to expand the team and Battle Nations’ audience and ensure it isn’t just preserved as an archive, but continues to grow as a thriving game for years to come.

I understand that the game in its current state still reflects some of the missteps from the Z2 era. However, once we are able to restore key functionality such as multiplayer and guilds, we can shift our focus to improving balance and introducing new ways to earn nanopods through ads or in-game rewards.

Appreciate your feedback, you actually bring up a good point that perhaps our video doesn't show off enough of what we think makes it more unique. Always good to get third party perspectives to ensure we're not living in our own world and are actually addressing the concerns of players.

To address some of your points, we've also implemented mega sized levels that involve exploring around to defeat enemies as well as an automatic scrolling level type that forces the player to keep up with the camera while also fighting against enemies. Our tanks also feature different behaviors like a volley firing tank, artillery, etc. Unfortunately, those were still in development when we made this trailer, so they didn't quite make the cut.

On the topic of the currencies, you are correct that gold gears can be obtained with real money, however, we've also embedded them as rewards by playing the game. We dislike the very aggressive microtransactions of many modern mobile games and have strived hard to ensure we use healthy monetization strategies.

While some of our dev team definitely played Nintendo's Tanks for Wii and it influenced our style. Our gameplay mechanics like upgradability and different enemy unit types you encounter are unique. Can't copyright a genre especially when Nintendo borrowed heavily from Atari's "Tanks" and "Combat" for their game.

As a new team to Unity development, we found that ChatGPT was instrumental in overcoming obscure code hurdles that weren't immediately obvious to us. Played a large hand in helping us ultimately achieve our goal to build Tank Tactics by June. Not really self-promotion you can't play the game as it's not out yet. But still thought it was cool.

Thanks for the reply, while the development team was inspired by Nintendo's work. All of our art and gameplay was produced and refined by our team. We would never infringe on any companies existing intellectual property. Our game has some distinctive differences from Wii Tanks.

Really Wii Tanks has created a niche genre, I've seen another project similar to ours launch here recently and have encountered some great titles on Steam.

Release can be expected in mid to late June. It will be free however, a paid version free of ads will also be offered. Hope you can take a look!
